  1. Everyone seems to have covered the medicine/legal issues but we witnessed a scene on our last cruise that could easily have been prevented. As experienced cruisers, we take the lifeboat drill for granted. We saw two young children who had a major meltdown on the stairs heading towards their muster stations. Neither child had been prepared for what to expect and both were screaming about the ship sinking. I am assuming they had seen a movie where a ship was sinking and everyone had their life jackets. Not only did this create a major traffic jam in the middle of the stairs but I felt terrible for these children as you could see the fear in their faces. Please if traveling with children, explain this "practice drill".

This is something that never would've crossed my mind. Thank you!

All good advice - taking a 3 & 4yo on their first cruise next week.

  2. First, I'm sorry you weren't able to take part in your much anticipated vacation. Your frustration and disappointment is evident in your post.

Was the issue that you don't have a passport? If you didn't already, why didn't you get one? I'd think it may have been the more proactive approach that could've alleviated/prevented any headaches.

Perhaps you could reach out to the specific representatives that made the assurances to you and see if they can help with your ordeal. Best of luck.

Dallas Girl, my idea was that with every drinks package sold, that package also came with lets say 5 vouchers or 5 free drinks credits for a guest. So if I owned a drinks voucher, sat down at a bar, I could fairly and within the rules acquire a drink for another person. Now if I used up all those vouchers, I could purchase 5 more. The idea is that the guest may find they want a drinks package too, or not. The point is that by having guest vouchers, then couples with one drinks package can also get that occasional drink for their other person perfectly legally. This differentiates between the "occasional" abuser and the "persistent" abuser of the drinks packages and hopefully eliminates "occasional" abuse.

We've bought soda cards before, but had never encountered these extra vouchers, so it peaked my interest. I don't drink enough of any one thing, so I'm one of those signing receipts as I go.

    Thanks for the info!

  4. Ok i have the solution

Buy one drinks package and with that get 5 additional guest drinks up to so many $ You could buy a top up those 5 guest drinks at guest relations

Would you mind elaborating? I very, very seldom drink sodas (must with a burger) or coffee, but do love my cocktails. However, I can't imagine drinking enough to make the alcohol package worth it for me. DH can't go without his daily sodaS so he will get the soda package. So, I'm curious about your post. Thanks!

  5. Fantastic thread!

Even as a seasoned cruiser - our upcoming cruise being the shortest at 7 days- I can't stress enough...comfort over beauty, ladies. Tired feet make for a cranky girl.

I like to wear comfy Merrells to explore ports, but bring flip flops in my bag in the event I feel like swapping out later in the day. This depends on the port, but it's been nice many times.

Oh, and swimsuit coverup. I have forgotten one on several vacations, so I thought I'd mention it. I prefer that to walking around with just a towel.

    Safe travels!
