  1. New friends of this board, I’m exhausted.  Send us some good vibes that we make it to FLL for our boat!  We have been “traveling” all day and literally got nowhere due to the storms in DFW.  We were boarded on two different planes.  We got above DFW & tried to land, the airport was shut down right before approach, and we circled around for idk how long until we were turned back to TUL.  Then we sat on the plane for an hour and a half, and we’re now hitching a ride in a car with someone we met on one of our TWO planes to DFW.  So, we missed the last possible connection to FLL OR MIA for tonight and have to gamble for tmrw am. I could have driven to DFW if only I’d had a clue. 😞 please don’t rub it in that hubby opted out of trip insurance.  Luckily some of this will be covered by our wonderful Chase Card.  We don’t even know where our bags are, they wouldn’t really say, and I checked my carry on for free at their insistence so we don’t have any clothes or toiletries.  I hope you’ll send me positive thoughts and someone learns from this post. Lol

  2. So we got notification from X that they do plan on sailing one hour early from FLL at this point so the previous posting on another board was correct; we are just glad to have some word and are currently having air travel issues trying to get to FLL.  This is for Equinox 8/31.

I found more information in the Coast Guard notices.

Ports are in condition X-Ray, which means ships > 500 gross tons must be ready to sail.

Condition Yankee means they must leave port.

Condition Zulu is port close and is set when gale force winds are expected to arrive.  gale force is 34-37 knots, or 39-43mph.  For comparison, Tropical Storm force is 34-64mph.

At this time, that is Sunday 8pm in Miami and FLL, and Monday morning in Canaveral.

So condition Yankee would be set before that and keep in mind ships need to sail with time to get clear - they can't just run west! Will be interesting to see if any cruise ships are in port tomorrow.  I am looking for ships heading in right now.

The Equinox is headed in to FLL, which we are supposed to leave out on tmrw at 3:30.  So far Celebrity says it’s a go.  We are boarding our first flight that way now.  Also could someone please clarify when to get to the port?  As long as nothing changes my pass says 12:30.  But somewhere I saw to arrive two hours prior so I’m a little confused.  Also we are Concierge class and I saw something about priority check in.  Thanks for all help. Praying for everyone in the path of this storm.

You are welcome and thanks for asking. You are in the big zone of uncertainty about the strength of Dorian when it reaches Florida, but is sure is looking like it will be there on the weekend.

If the strength is TS bordering on Hurricane usually we see ships delay return to be outside the storm with a shortened cruise leaving 1-2 days later when the ship gets in. If the storm is depression only they may come in and board as long as there will be no storm surge and power will be maintained. The port authority usually makes decisions on port open or closed and that also drives the cruise decisions Ali g with weather forecasting.

Hi Pelican Bill!  Thanks for all of the updates, in regards to this sailing I think we may be okay, if it continues on this path, I think we may get out and skirt around it?  Would you agree?  Also, are the seas usually terrible being that we are supposed to take roughly the path of the storm in reverse? :)
