  1. I'm using Airbnb for the first time and I've found an apartment very near Termini station but a few of the reviews say the neighborhood is a little "iffy" at night. We have plans for day trips that will return late at night and we enjoy walking around and seeing the city after dark. Should we look someplace else?

  2. DH has trouble walking any distance especially on uneven terrain. Is there any way we can get off the funicular in Fira, board a bus and sight see the island getting off only a few times? In the past we have avoided excess walking by taking a hop on hop off bus but I haven't found information about one in Santorini. Please don't suggest the cruise line's tours none of them are a one on the activity level for Santorini. Thanks!

  3. DH and I have always cruised in the height of the summer but this year we've retired and are cruising in Italy and Greece in November. I'm wondering if some trains and ferries etc. still run at all and if they do how much of a change in schedule should we expect. We'd like to take a ferry or hydrofoil out of Naples, ride the train to Taormina from Messina, do a Hop on Hop off in Athens etc. but we're too early in the year to get posted schedules for many of these things and I'd like to know how things worked out for others. Thanks!

  4. Wander. get lost. Have a beverage of choice sitting 'on the ocean', find the windmills. Take 100 pictures of boats, blue roofed churches and windmills along with whitewashed alleys. Adventure with history? Take the water ferry over to Delos. (Plan ahead, ck times online before going) Walk the ruins, stop in the tiny museum. Lovely Mykonos.... Have one of the best days of your entire cruise!

Could not agree more!!! Mykonos is one of my most favorite cities in the world!

  5. Thank you for the information about the taxi time to the airport! I have made a HORRIBLE mistake! I booked my flight for 1 hour and 20 minutes after the boat is due to dock. When I bought my tickets I knew they were non-transferable so it will now cost us close to 2000.00 to change the tickets. We've decided to be adventurous and try to make it with the tickets we have now. What are our chances of getting through the airport and customs in 1 hour? We're traveling from Copenhagen to New York on KLM and Delta.

  6. Hello fabulous CC members,

I don't know why, but I am more nervous about our NYC end of our vacation than any other part of our cruise vacation combined . Maybe because I haven't been to NYC in about 10 years, but remember how HUGE it is. Maybe because I've never overnighted or traveled out of NYC before... who knows WHY I'm being a nervous nelly, but I am :rolleyes:

So... with that said. We are planning to take an Amtrak train from Syracuse, NY to Penn Station. We plan on overnighting in the city (haven't picked a hotel yet). We would like to stay close enough to the pier that we can walk to it (but that's not written in stone). With all that said...

I would love your insight, input, pointers, tips & suggestions to help our NYC part of the vacation go wrinkle and worry free :o Anything from where to stay, how to travel about, what to do or see, insider secrets, and how best to handle the terminal without any hassles. Can you help alleviate some of my jitters?

Here's a completely different tip. Wear something patriotic when you sail out of Manhattan. I've done it twice before and I know I will never get pictures of myself and family in front of the Statue of Liberty like the ones I get from the ship. I'm not very photogenic and even I look good in these. I also have ridden on the NYC HoHo bus and it's a great way to see NYC. Another really fun attraction is the virtual roller coaster ride at the top of the Empire State Bldg. Relax you'll love it.

  7. We honeymooned on the Flavia in February of 1976! What a great ship. We had four fabulous days onboard and went to Nassau and Freeport. We're taking another cruise this year for the first time to celebrate our 30th anniversary. :)
