Sea Princess (1998-present) Delivered in 1998 by Fincantieri -Cantieri Navali Italiani S.p.A., Monfalcone, Italy to Princess Cruises from a series of four identical sisterships identified as the Sun class, (Sun Princess, Dawn Princess and the former Ocean Princess, now P&O's Oceana ). In late 2003, early 2003, she received an internal transfer to P&O Cruises and was renamed Adonia on May 21st, 2003, at a launching ceremony with sister ship Oceana. The Princess Royal, Princess Anne and her daughter Zara Phillips named the sister ships in the first double ship naming ceremony ever.

As Adonia, the vessel was dedicated as an "Adults Only ship" and for this period, the children's playroom was refitted as a quiet lounge which featured massage chairs facing the panoramic windows. The children's play pool was converted into a Feng Shui relaxation area. In the P&O fleet, Adonia filled the gap in the period between Arcadia leaving the fleet to become Ocean Village and the launch of the new Arcadia in 2005. So in May, 2005, she was transferred back to Princess Cruises, reassumed her old name, and continues to cruise for them.

Hey Terry, looking forward to meeting you and the Mrs also on Oosterdam on Valentine's Day;)

WOW! You should write a cruise book John! You are quite the cruise ship historian / expert! I loved hearing the history behind the Sea Princess, I had no idea! THANK YOU!!

I have to tell you, I am THE MISSES! LOL!! :D I have one of those unisex names! I am going on the Yummer's cruise Feb. 14 with 9 other girlfriends!

We will be on our second cruise together as a group.

However, we have to leave our husbands behind on Valentine's Day!

We call ourselves the Crabernet Cruisers! You will see us with our Crab attire onboard! We are not at all crabby, but a little goofy! :p

Thanks again for the Sea Princess information. I shared it with my husband, who also found it very interesting! We would like to sail on her again, now that she is back with Princess. We are hooked on HAL, but would love to reminise and sail on the Sea Princess again.

Take care, see you in a few months!

    Ms. Teri ;)

John, ours was the Sea Princess south bound route Alaska out of Seward. I bought the cruise (for way to much) at a charity auction!

And yes my friend... WE ARE HOOKED!!

The Yum Yumm Man cruise will be our 10th cruise!

I hope to meet you both onboard!

    Teri ;)

    OPPS!!

Sorry, I forgot the date of our first cruise! May 2000, soooo 10 cruises later YES WE ARE HOOKED!!

However, that first cruise was awesome! We have been back to Alaska 2 more times, only saw a moose and calf, mountain goats and grizzly bear on that FIRST cruise! But, there is no such thing, IMO as a bad cruise!!

A little history, the Sea Princess went to P and O Cruises and changed her look a bit, after our first cruise. According to the Princess website she is back as the Sea Princess!! I guess she has been around!:)

I would love to cruise on her again! Thanks for this thread, very interesting!;)

John are you onboard the Yummer's Cruise Feb. 14, 2009 with us? I thought so?

  6. Our first cruise in 2000, I am just a "by nature friendly girl" my dh and I see a couple of our crew members at the Red Onion in AK, I think it would only be polite to buy them a beverage of choice... we start a conversation (keep in mind this is our first cruise) they ask our cabin # (keep in mind our first cruise)!! I tell them!! OMG!!

We get a call in the cabin at around 2:00 am the boys thought it would be a GREAT idea for ME (not dh) to join them for a late party!

    OMG!!!

The FUNNY thing is... when the phone rang in the cabin, my loving DH said... it's for you dear...???

FOR #$%^ SAKES!! Who would call our cabin at 2:00 am!!!

We should have said something, but did not.

  7. My DH, mother and father were onboard the Zaandam last September and they held the NOT so newlywed game (which I am sure you are all familiar with from past cruises) They picked 4 couples ranging from a couple married 4 months to a couple IMO their late 80's married over 70 years from Montana.

The older couple had a hard time hearing at first (so we thought) and it looked like this would not be that entertaining. We almost left, I am so glad we did not!

The CD asked the wives what condiment does you husband like the best? The elderly wife said " hot sauce". When the elderly husband was back on stage and asked the same question (he is in good physical shape for his age and wearing cowboy boots) JUMPED about 2 feet in the air klicked his heels together and yelled TORJANS!!!!!

The elderly wife just looked discussed and rolled her eyes, it was PRICELESS!! The CD was laughing (along with the entire audience in the theater) so hard, he had to have another CD staff person take over.

My mom and dad were celebrating their 50th anniversary on this cruise and we were not sitting with them in the theater at the time. We were not sure they saw it. As so as they returned to their cabin my dad called our cabin and yelled TROJANS!!:D

That was the theme for the rest of the cruise! If you yelled out TROJANS you would get laughs anywhere on the ship!

AAHHHH! To be married 70+ years!!;)
