  1. In the past year we’ve been on Allure, Oasis, Symphony, Navigator, and Mariner.  On Allure, Oasis, and Symphony only about 10% of the passengers were dressed in formal attire for the formal nights.  Mariner and Navigator didn’t even have a formal night on the weekend cruise.

On Allure, Oasis, and Symphony the vast majority simply wore nice slacks and a nice shirt.  There were also MANY who wore jeans and a polo shirt, AND there were even a lot who wore nice dressier shorts with a nice shirt.

We were staying in suites, so on Allure, Oasis, and Symphony we were able to eat in the Coastal Kitchen which is a dining room for suite guests only ...... In Coastal Kitchen, we didn’t see a single couple dressed formal on formal nights.  The most dressed we saw anybody was very nice slacks and a nice shirt and a nice dress but far from being a formal dress.  We were surprised at how many men in the Coastal Kitchen even had on nice shorts and shirts with FLIP FLOPS in the Coastal Kitchen on formal nights.

My overall point is wear what you want, unless you’re in a bathing suit and tank top, you won’t be turned away from the main dining room on formal night.

  2. I don’t know about other cabins, but whatever you do, do NOT book Grand Suite #1256 on the 10th floor of Navigator OTS.  We had that room on Navigator this weekend and it’s the worst room we’ve ever had on a cruise ship.  It was more like Motel 6 than a suite.

The bathroom drains had a sewage smell coming out of them.  There was a totally different old worn out looking faucet on each of the 2 sinks.  Neither sink drain could be closed.  One of the 2 faucets could only be turned from warm water to hot water, it would not turn towards the cold side at all.
‘The dead bolt on the cabin door could NOT be locked when you were sleeping because the door was all warped inside around the bolt area.  The TV was sitting down on a table instead of hanging on the wall.  The drapes along the sliding glass door to the balcony kept falling off their track on 1 side and kept falling down every time we’d close them even though our room attendant kept putting them back in the track.  The track for the curtain that separates the bedroom from the living room areas of the suite would come off the ceiling if you pulled the curtain more than halfway closed.

We had another cruise booked on Navigator for June 1-5, 2020, and we CANCELLED that cruise today when we got home because we don’t want to take the chance of getting such a horrible room again on that ship for all the money a suite costs.
We also changed ourselves and 9 other family members from a July 19, 2020 cruise on Freedom to a cruise for the same week on Harmony instead ... because none of our family members have ever been on a cruise before and we’re afraid the rooms on another “amplified/refurbished” ship might be just as bad as what we had this weekend and we don’t our family’s  first experience with cruising to be in a suite like we had this weekend.

  3. NAVIGATOR ...... was on both this summer ...... Navigator received a much better amplification and renovation than Mariner did ......... Navigator also has the only roller coaster water slide at sea.  The pool deck area is so much nicer on Navigator too.

You won’t miss the Sky Pad bungee thing that Mariner has, it’s lame, you just jump up and down.

I HIGHLY recommend Navigator between the two.  My 8yo son LOVED Navigator almost as much as he loves Oasis class ships.

  4. You should look at OASIS of the Seas for January ...... Its currently getting a $165 million renovation/ amplification and will have everything Symphony has and MORE when it’s back in service starting in November ........ the more includes GIOVANNI’S TABLE and the new Portside BBQ restaurant ....... also a much nicer pool deck and the new 3 story lime and coconut pool bars ..... Oasis also has cheaper fares than Symphony.

(BTW ..... Symphony does have 150 Central Park)

We are on Allure for Christmas and it will probably be our last Royal Cruise.  I am so tired of all the changes they make as the cruise gets closer and their stupid excuses.  If I can't find a better cruise line I guess we will just stay on land.  It sad, because we do like to cruise but when I schedule for St Thomas, I want to go to St Thomas not spend a short time in San Juan.  And then I read about everyone else issues and it seems that RCI cares less and less for their customers.  At the rate they are going they are going to have all these big ships and not be able to fill them because we are getting feed up with the way they treat their paying customers.

Allure has a propulsion problem that can’t be fixed until it goes to Spain in March for its refurb and amplification.  The propulsion problem causes it to not be able to go as fast as it normally would and that’s why they’ve had to change ports around to closer ones.
