Welcome to Cruise Critic where it is not popular to complain about anything Royal does.
You are today’s hero. Thank you. Feeling [slightly] less crazy! 😂

Hey, I'm with you. I made the same mistake during my first cruise.
However, my problem is that I don't hear you accepting any of the blame.
For myself, I was upset also, until I did the research and saw that the terms and conditions were spelled out. I just didn't read them.
Stop blaming hard working people for not explaining to you in every minute detail of the terms and conditions. You didn't read the terms and conditions and/or you didn't ask the right questions.
Then you could come here and share your experience with others and share you hard earned knowledge.
You just learned a valuable lesson that you will carry with you forever.

Believe me, when I have made a mistake I own it. This was all done over the phone, however, not online, so I was given no terms or conditions, no email confirmation was received by my husband or myself, nothing. I worked in customer service for over a decade and have no problem accepting blame. I feel RC has failed me here, however, and I’m still waiting for it to be resolved. My point in posting was to warn others who, like me, would assume when booking a hotel room that the price would be for the room and not by individual (like it is everywhere else). I did *not* expect to get this many responses, and I definitely did not expect so many people in this forum to be borderline unkind. I guess in the future I won’t try to share my experiences to help others. I am truly disappointed in all of this. -
My original complaint was that neither of the RC Reps I spoke with advised me that the cost for hotel accommodations was per person, which increased the cost exponentially. It seemed like a GREAT deal, and then I saw the charges on my card were *very* different than I was expecting. And in all of that, the customer service was poor and no one ever apologized for the two reps not properly communicating. Add to that the difficulty I have had for a week now in straightening out the situation and the charges not being refunded....it’s all been very frustrating.

You got that right Grandma. Renaissance is expensive everywhere in the travel world. Even "Family" rate is to expensive for me.

Yes, big difference! But since we’re going on a cruise the next day so cheaper is ok! 😆

It still doesn't answer my question. What hotel was the cruise line using for the one night? And what type of shuttle?
The Hyatt Grand Cypress Reset could cost you $200-300 a night as opposed to the Motel 6 for $46 a night which means you either overpaid or got off cheap.
Sorry! RC was charging $127/person for the Renaissance Orlando, and shuttle from pier to airport on return was $24.99/person GoPort is charging $183, total, for the Holiday Inn Orlando and all ground transportation!

To clarify: I booked two rooms and shuttle from pier to airport. I’ve received a refund for one of the hotel rooms and nothing else, so I don’t think the error is on my card company’s end, but I’m still waiting to hear back from RC to verify. The whole thing has just been a pain. Spoke to two reps before booking the rooms and transportation, and nobody said the hotel room cost was per person. They clarified that about the shuttle, but not the rooms. Now I know, but I would never, ever have assumed a cost for a hotel room was per person before.

yep, I learned this on my first cruise.
However, you cancelled. Good job. What are you on the phone for?
They will do the refund back to the credit card you used to book. Then the credit card refund will show on your account when the credit card company gets to it. The credit card companies terms and conditions might even say if could be next month before they credit your account.
I'm not sure what you're on the phone waiting for.
I called to cancel on Thursday and I still haven’t received my full refund. RC gave me the runaround on the phone, haven’t been able to speak to anyone with complete competence or compassion. Still waiting on a call back as to why I haven’t gotten all my money back yet.

What port and what hotel?
There are many departure ports where a hotel room can be expensive and a cost of $250 -$350 for a double room plus transfers would be a bargain.
We used GoPort Orlando instead and got a room at the Holiday Inn Airport plus all ground transportation to and from the ship for $183.

I called Royal TWICE and was told a stay in a hotel the night before departure + transportation would be $127-144. After booking, I found out the charge is *per person*, not per room. I cancelled 5 days ago and still have not received my full refund. Use GoPort or anything else. So far 2 hours have been spent trying to resolve this to no avail.
Do NOT use RCCL for hotel room before cruising!

I’ve stated already, but the RC Reps clearly explained the shuttle service was charged per person, but never said anything about the room fees. At the end of the call they even reiterated the shuttle fee was $24.99/person, so $69.90 total fee for both of us, but didn’t do the same with the room charges. Now, in the future I will definitely always clarify charges, but I never dreamed that *outside of our cruise* fees for a room would be per person. Excursions and everything else, I know and expect. I’ve cruised before. The hotel just shocked me.
