  1. I have been on around 20 cruises solo, had a few awkward moments, but not enought to make me stop cruising!

Buffet - usually take my food outside to a lounge chair, do not like the atmostphere in the buffet, unless they have outside seating! Usually have a bag with sunscreen, book etc, and leave it on my chair, never lost it yet.

Room stewarts have been kind enough to put sunsceen on my back - now I too use spay before I leave room. And re apply if needed

If I do not like assigned table mates on day 1 - make sure to request a different table for day 2 on.

Had one dinner no one but me first night, next table asked me to join them and squeezed in a extra chair - next next night it was 2doctors/one intern, and a nurse - doctors at sea - we had a ball - they had tickets for special dinners/parties, and just took me along!

People do not notice you are alone, always people walking around alone - couples do not alway do the same thing together all day!

I travel alone by choice, never want to have a 2nd in the room that I do not know, or a friend that wants to tag along, and restrict me from what I want to do.

One out trip - getting into a small boat - I sat alone, and man from dock yelled where is your husband -I yelled back he died, but if you can find him, I would love to have him join me! Tour guide new I was alone, and he sat beside me.

most important - pack your humor!! Never take stupid comments as personal, people are just people!

  2. I have also been cruising solo since I lost my husband in 2002 and absolutely love it. I personally think it is the best way to go.

I agree with Jimsgirl, talk to folks and definitely try to get seated at a large table.

My first cruise I was seated with a group of solo cruisers of varying ages and had a blast.

  3. Been awhile since I last got on this thread... We had a blast on our 4th of July cruise... Now I only have 43 days left for my solo birthday cruise.

Got my shore excursions planned and can't wait!! Even though I got away for the 4th, just getting away by myself will be fantastic.

I am glad kids are back in school, I can get some much needed stuff done around the house.

  4. Same here, just getting aboard the ship is always so exciting and breathtaking..

I am like you in the fact that now when we go to Nassau I usually stay on the ship, in October we will probably take the girls to Atlantis since they have not been there before.

Whatever we do, I know we will enjoy it just because we are together...

  5. I just found this thread!! I live in Madison, Ga by way of Sand Mountain, Ala.

I have a birthday cruise planned for this Sept as well as two others following, one in Oct to Bahamas with family and the other in May to Alaska (first time to this area)

I can't wait to hear more from my fellow Georgia cruisers.
