  1. I live in Montreal and am sailing from Miami in Oct. We booked great flights, non stop weeks ago, paid $900 each return, crazy.  Just a few days later AC emailed us to say that the non stop were no longer available and had re-booked us on crummy non-stop later in the day, arriving around 10pm or so, day before sailing.  We called immediately and ended up leaving really early in the morning through Toronto then to Miami, return Miami, Newark, Montreal.  Those flights were about $1100 but they agreed to hold the original crazy price.  We were thrilled but hopefully all will go well with connections etc.  Let’s face it we are at their mercy.  Technically we could drive to Plattsburgh or Burlington, VT, but didn’t want to do that.  Good luck,

  2. We just completed a B2B on the Jewel a couple of weeks ago, we hate the coffee on board and always bring our own as well. Day 1 we ordered tea for 2 and received 2 thermal type carafes, we kept them for the entire 2 weeks and my DH and i took turns every morning going to the windjammer and filling up the 2 carafes with boiling water, it only took about 5 mins. and at least we were able to enjoy our own coffee in our room.

    Cheers

  3. We booked our flights with Choice Air as well, they told us that they wouldn't book anything 11:00am or earlier, we depart at 11:25 i believe.

We've flown in and out of San Juan a few times, the place is crazy, after the first couple of times using the transfers with RCL we now take a cab,

easier and less stressful not having to wait to the bus to be filled up.

  4. Sometimes comparing the way that things used to be is not a good thing. To me, you can go any restaurant and be served something that you don't absolutely love, perhaps because it's just not what you expected, perhaps there is something about it that you just don't like, if there is something "wrong" with it you send it back, it's the same on a cruise, your waitstaff will encourage you to try anything you think you may like and will be more than happy to bring you something else if you don't like it, don't be afraid to ask.

This will be your first crusie, you will have nothing to compare it to, so sit back and enjoy yourself. The Serenade is a beautiful ship, don't stress about what you can't control, you will form your own opinions at the end of your vacation. With all the complaining that people do they are still booking cruises, can't be all bad.

Not having to shop for, cook or cleaning up after cooking a meal is the best! Happy cruising. :o

  5. Hi all! I've been reading the threads here and on Disboards, but I have yet to see the questions I have pop up. So I figured I'd go ahead and ask. We're booked on the Southern Caribbean in October in a 2-bedroom suite on the JOS. Here the the questions I can think of right now.

    1) I can find very little information on the 2-bedroom suites out there. It'll be myself, my husband, our son, and my parents. We're planning the master bedroom for us and the other bedroom for my parents. Can we get a rollaway put in the master for our son? I wanted to avoid having anyone sleep in the living area and I don't want him in the bunks in the other bedroom. Also, since my parents are paying for themselves, can we have 2 accounts tied to one room or will be have to separate charges ourselves? Anyone out there stay in 8668? How was it?

    2) We've never done concierge anywhere. I've read the kiddo can't go into the concierge lounge after 5pm (I think). So does that mean we can get our drinks to go since he can't be in there? I've read the drinks in the lounge were really meant to be enjoyed in the lounge. Is that the case? Kiddo aside, I'd like to get me "free drink" and then take it to dinner or the room. Do we get water and/or soda since we're concierge?

    3) We've only cruised DCL (Magic, Wonder, and Fantasy). Any DCL folks been on JOS? How do they compare?

Thanks all! I appreciate any help!

i sailed in the same room with my sister and 2 friends to celebrate by 50th birthday. No trouble at all to have sep accounts for each passemger if you so desire. My sister and i shared the "master" no way that you could get an extra bed in there, sorry. The living area is plenty large enough for a rollaway, but the couch opened up as well. your room steward will make up all the beds daily regardless of where they are located, so if you are thinking that the extra bed in the living area will be in the way during the day, it won't. I didn't like the long walk from the cabin to the elevators so aft is not for me, i prefer hump cabins, but the suite itself was really nice. With 4 women the best part was 2 bathrooms.

No drinks to go I am afraid.

i don't recall any porthole in the master bedroom, there was one in the living area over the cabinet/credenza area though. Also there was a DVD player in the room, so pack some movies to watch.

Have a great cruise, the Jewel is my favorite ship.

  6. At least you got an e-mail, this happened to my DH a few years ago but they never advised us. He brought his clubs all the way from Montreal to the ship only to find a message from RCI on the bed when we arrived saying that the golf excursion was cancelled, no reason given. It sure would have been nice if we knew before we hauled the extra baggage with us. We spoke to a woman that worked on one of our excursions and she said that more than likely they didn't have enough people signed up so they cancelled it. :(

  7. We stayed at the Embassy Suites the last time we cruised from SJ, we thoguht it was a great location, not far from the airport, nor too far from the prot.

As other's have said there's an Outback right in the hotel for dinner and the free buffet breakfast in the morning before you leave to board the ship, and don't forget the free bar in the evening. We will def. stay there again the next time we cruise from SJ.

  8. I just returned Sun. from a week on Ex. The one common thing i heard from people trying to use the wi-fi service was that it was not very good, they either couldn't connect at all and when they finally did, it took forever. In the beginning of the week I often overheard people on the phone with guest services complaining that they couldn't connect, this was from the RC Online area as our cabin was located very close to it.

Re the cabin temp, we did need to turn up the heat in our cabin and the beginning and end of the trip, ir worked great. We were able to wear summerish clothing on Tues when we arrived at Port Canaveral.

  9. Just what i was looking for, i will be in this room next year. But your pictures are very tiny, is there any other way you can put the pics up bigger?? also, about how many people can fit out on the balcony at the same time?

    Thanks :)

I was in the RFS on the Jewel with 3 girlfriends last Oct, it was the perfect arrangement, i put some of our pics on webshots but i can't figure out how to link them here, if you go to webshots and search on royal family suite jewel of the seas, you'll see a lot to look at, my pics are all entitled DSCN followed by various #,s if you click on the first one you can look at the small album, we were in cabin 8586. the balcony was plenty big enough but oddly shaped as you'll see, it was a great cabin.

    Enjoy

  10. Another great review Sailor Jack, I can only imagine how "interesting " it must be to be married to someone with your own special sense of humour.

I especially loved your Canadian references and I can totally relate to them all.

This review wants me want to consider a TA, unfortunately my DH would never be able to withstand all the at sea days.

My roots are in Ireland & until i read your description of the Blarney stone I thought at some point I'd have to make my way there to check it out, now I think i'll take a pass.
