  1. Not knowing what a dash sale was, I did a google search and came across this:

Make a dash for great savings! Right now, when you book a Norwegian Cruise Line vacation to The Caribbean, Hawaii or any of our other breathtaking destinations, you'll receive up to $250 to spend on board fleetwide, plus kids 17 and under cruise for free! But hurry, this offer won't last long, so book today!

I thought I'd post in case anyone else was interested. :-)

  2. Thank you for the replies, had I booked yesterday, I would have received an extra $100 OBC in addition to the latitudes points and OBC. However, last month the promo was $150 extra OBC and 2 weeks ago with the "cruise event" I would have gotten some free dinners+ $125 combined Spa/OBC. I thought that the promotions are for new bookings only, so if price drops we would get price adjustment but NOT the OBC offers??? Since we are booking more than 9 months ahead, there are plenty of cabins on our sailing. Are you saying that if I book now and a better promotional offer comes along, they will give it to us??? If yes, that is great news.

  3. You will really enjoy your SJ suite! The almost floor length picture windows are awesome and the location is quiet. Which suite did you book? I ask because the running track was over a couple of the suites, but it may have been re-routed? Access to Cagneys for breakfast and lunch is one of the best perks ever. Wishing you a wonderful cruise!

  4. Thank you to everyone that has replied. Now thinking we will book the Dawn, if its similar to the Jewel. $500 will buy lots of excursions and help cover tips, plus Dawn is out of NOLA and includes one extra port. Of course if some extra $$ comes my way, or prices drop we would jump ship to the Jewel, but probably unlikely since the week we want to go includes President's day. I think Dawn will be a good choice. If anyone else has any other thoughts, we would appreciate hearing them.

  5. Ok - sounds like the Getaway is now off the table and it's between the Jewel and the Dawn? I think the Jewel is a class above the Dawn, but I'm not certain of the aft suite. Having stayed in an SJ suite I sort of know what to expect on the Dawn. We will be travelling Presidents week in 2015 (yeah it's a ways away but time will fly), and by booking this early, we will get $400 in OBC! What say you my internet savy NCL friends - Dawn or Jewel???

  6. Ok, thanks everyone - sounds like Jewel is a good choice... but what about the Jewel compared to the Dawn? We can get a suite (SJ category) and it is about $500 less, same dates, similar itinerary, but departs out of NOLA. I've read that the two ships are very similar, with the main difference being the ocean front space near the pool deck on the Dawn was replaced with the new suites, that we would be staying in :-) like the star.

Would you go on the Dawn if you could save $500 but still stay in a suite??? Again, thanks.

  7. Thank you crystalspin and Demonyte for your input. I guess my hesitancy on the Jewel is that based on reviews she is started to look "old" (like me I guess) and I prefer the eastern Caribbean itinerary, plus the Getaway looks much more exciting, is less expensive and will be new! In my fantasy world we would get a haven suite on the Getaway :-) However since that isn't going to happen, the aft suite on the Jewel might be a good compromise, but I personally have little interest in the itinerary. My original plan to use that darn credit, was to book a spa class on the Getaway, but since my daughter will only be 14, she wouldn't be allowed to us the spa facilities. My understanding is that on the Jewel she will be able to use the fitness center with an adult present, but that the workout machines are few and limited. I have sailed b4 on the Star in the SJ suite and the perks were priceless. Oh gosh, still can't decide.

  8. I am hoping to take my teenage daughter on her first cruise, next February to the Caribbean to "get rid" of the FOB credit I bought a few years ago :-) Choices are an aft suite with perks on the Jewel or a balcony room on the Getaway. The Getaway itinerary is slightly more exciting to the Eastern Caribbean, compared to the Western, which includes Roatan, Belize and Cozumel. I asked my daughter if she would prefer being a VIP on an older ship or going on a larger newer ship, and she said "VIP". What would you do in my situation and why. I just can't decide since I think either could be a great trip. Thanks.

  9. I would like to do a mother daughter spa cruise. My daughter who is an athlete, (almost 14) would like to use the workout facilities. I am thinking about booking Aqua Class, so that the two of us could hang out at the spa. The website says:

Minimum age to receive treatments or use spa facilities is 18, unless participating in the YSpa program where services are available to guests of all ages. Fitness facilities are available to minor guests when accompanied by an adult.

What exactly is the Yspa? Is this included in Aqua class? Does Yspa mean she can use the therapy pools/sauna's??

I have been googling for the past 2 days, an haven't found an answer? Thank you in advance to those that respond!

  10. How can you be given an expected time for dinner? It all depends on when other guests choose to leave no one has a crystal ball. As for the room steward, they have many rooms to clean and I am sure id you had asked for your room to be cleaned early she would have done it, and really you think they are not allowed to talk to each other in the corridor. Your workplace must be an extremely quiet environment if you expect the same standards of others as your self no talking while you work please, really !

If you look for fault you can always find something to moan about but your issues are in my opinion nothing to moan about at all.

Wow, it's been awhile since I've been on this forum and honestly I am surprised at the "tone" from some of the posters. I'm not sure what purpose it serves to pick at the OP for taking the time to share what is in their opinion an honest review of the breakaway. Isn't this one of the purposes of this forum - to share and discuss? To the OP, I am sorry your cruise had it's disappointments, but I do appreciate your review and hope you let the NCL management know about your experience. Please don't let the "mean spirited" comments keep you from sharing your opinions. There are those of us, that greatly appreciate reading reviews and value hearing both the good and bad.

  11. I called today about the new NCL card I received to find that the APR of 1.9% only applies to balance transfers :( . I thought I could charge the cruise and then have a few extra months to pay it off with very little interest. I guess I won't be using the card as much as I had planned. I'm going to charge the cruise for the points, but pay it off in full to avoid the 20% interest charges.

BTW I asked about the 5x program and customer service told me there was another promotion going on that she could enroll me in. If I spend $2000 by Nov. 30, I will receive 2000 extra bonus points. FYI - to anyone interested, call and find out if they will make you the same offer.

  12. Singing - wow, that's a lotta' questions but let's see . . .

First - have you considered charging your routine expenses rather than just focusing on double points? They can add up pretty fast. Go buy yourself a WalMart (or whatever) giftcard for $200. That will give you 200 points and you still have your money.

Second - yes, any charge to NCL will get you double points. I believe you can buy some OBC but I am not positive since I've never done it - call NCL and ask. No, you cannot buy a future cruise certificate. They are only sold onboard.

Thank you for your kind reply. Can I buy a $250 on board credit? Then can I charge the future cruise certificate against the on board credit? Thanks!!!

  13. OK, I applied for the NCL credit card and was approved. I paid the initial deposit + change with another credit card. Is this right, the balance of the cruise paid with the NCL credit card will be awarded 2 x points - since it involves NCL? If I pre-pay the daily gratuities, will those also be 2 x points? If both are true, I wind up being about $100 short for another 5 K points which I would use for another $50 OBC? What else could I pre-pay for $100 to push me over 5k points. We aren't gonna buy any excursion or soda cards, and planned to use our OBC for specialty meals. We aren't big drinkers so no extra alcohol or gamblers? Can I buy an OBC of $50 for for bingo or coffee drinks - and if yes, would that qualify for 2 x points to equal the $100 I am short? Any suggestions? Hope the above made sense! Thanks. Another thought, can I use an OBC to buy a $250 future cruise certificate, where I get $100 immediately in OBC?
