If it's anything you care about--and you don't want to hike back to the car--just don't bring it. I just lost one at Canaveral getting on a Carnival Cruise. It was within specification of the regs, and I've not had a problem before.

Port Canaveral, FL headed to Grand Turk and D.R. I just gave up a Spyderco Tenacious (Gift from my son last year.) I guess he (the agent) needed it more than me.
