  1. Before my cruise I wasn't sure what package I wanted. So, now that I'm back I thought I'd share my experience in case someone else was wondering.

I knew I wanted e-mail, as I don't do social media so I signed up for the value package. It did everything it said it would ( email, surfing, etc.) however it was slower than I am used to on ships (10th cruise) so, halfway into our trip I upgraded to the Premium tier. It is supposed to be 3x faster. I noticed no difference in speed at all.

So, my final opinion is go with the value plan and be prepared for dial up speeds.

  2. Lois,

I just got off the Century yesterday. After reading your praises of the Martini Bar over the years, I decided to visit it the second evening. I lasted about 60 seconds! I was so surprised after all your complements, but I guess I should have been more careful and read your most recent comments. I'm very sorry to not have had the chance to enjoy the Martini Bar but relieved to know that its current incarnation wasn't the bar you loved.

Techno and Martinis? Who thought that was a good mix???

  3. I've been on 3 Alaska cruises so far and both my favorite tours were in Juneau. The first was a helicopter trip up onto a Glacier with an hour hike before flying back. The other was the canoe trip across Mendenhall lake to the Glacier and back. I plan to do this one again next time I'm in Juneau. While the flight was a "once in a life time" trip (at least cost-wise for me) the canoe trip was a bargain and I really felt like I'd accomplished something paddling across the lake & back. Both trips let me really appreciate the wonder of the glacier so much more intensely than the bus trip to the visitor center and hike to the falls.

  4. I've done both Seattle & Ketchikan and strongly recommend choosing Seattle. It's a blast & the town is large enough to provide a tour worth the fee. The Ketchikan tour on the other hand never went more than 1/2 mile from the starting point. It's just too small a town.

  5. I got one and I think it's worth it!

Did you know that you can use it as photo ID anywhere a license works ( except to drive) BUT it doesn't show your address. As a woman who lives alone I really appreciate not having to share my address with every bar doorman, grocery clerk, and bank teller in town.

  6. The crime rate is nearly at a 40 year low. Don't let the media frenzy influence your decisions.

Thank you! I was hoping to see this point made in the first couple of pages. Things are different today. It's safer.
