  1. I arrived by train, and I chose to stay near the train station. That worked well for us, as it is not the greatest of the experiences to be carrying your luggage into the vaporetos and across the steep bridges.

If you are arriving by plane, I believe there are buses that takes you to Piazzale Roma. From there it is jus a very short walk to the "People Mover" monorail station, which takes you to the msc checkin terminal.

    Hope this helps.

When I cruised to Abu Dhabi

When I cruised to Abu Dhabi, some years back, we took a cab to the Grand Mosque and from there to the Emirates Palace.  It's a long one, but, really beautiful walk along the corniche back to the ship.  Or, grab another cab.

Were taxis easily available or did you use any app?

    Thanks.

  3. Seems Abu Dhabi cruise terminal is pretty far from the Grand Mosque.

Any suggestion on best way to one that intends to visit inside Emirates Palace and the Grand Mosque?

Also, seems that in Doha, if you are in msc tours it requires less formalities to get off the ship. What about in Abu Dhabi, was it observed any difference in getting off the ship between msc and independent tour?

    Thanks.

Yes they do but somehow Qatar isn't requiring that fresh of a test, at least for those on MSC excursions. I uploaded the PCR used to get on the ship in Dubai, which would be well beyond that age by our arrival in Doha, and it was accepted. I'll update more later today as our excursion begins in a few hours.

How much is msc charging for the pcr test? How long it takes for the results? Are the lines too long?

All ports are requesting pcr done at most 72 hours? Or only Doha?

What about disembark back in Dubai, is it expected to show a pcr as well?

    Thanks.

We're currently sailing on MSC Virtuosa which is scheduled to dock at Doha, Qatar tomorrow. We're told that on last week's sailing of 3,000 passengers, only about 500 were able to get off at Doha because of incomplete registration by most everyone. The MSC website has been updated to reflect this new information but please be aware:

    1) If you're taking an MSC excursion, you must register on the Qatar website https://www.ehteraz.gov.qa/PER/loginPage?language=en. This should be done around 72-hrs before your arrival in Doha because you have to upload your vaccination certificate, recent covid-19 PCR test results and passport ID page copy. (The ship keeps your passport during the cruise but was able to provide us with a copy of the passport ID page that could be used to upload to Qatar. Or make your own photocopy pre-cruise so that you have this.)

    2) If you're planning to go ashore without an MSC excursion, you still need to register above but also need to download the Qatar health app onto your phone.

See the MSC website for full details.

Does MSC offer pcr tests in the ship? I would imagine it will be more than 72 hours since leaving Dubai once you arrive in Doha.

    Thanks for the details.

Not everyone on the ship has been tested! In one report David says they are not being taken to hospital but to a house where there are no phone lines and no WiFi! In the event of a flight back to the UK will they be allowed on it. No one seems to know.

As part of the end of quarantine all in the ship would have to be tested twice, before release. I believe this was test #1.

Before, only those with symptoms were being tested.

It has just been reported on the BBC news that David and Sally Able have tested positive to the virus.

David has posted on his page confirming this.

So awful what is happening on this ship.

    DA.JPG.9a2211d675cccddda75c052f27386afd.JPG

    Indeed awful.

I wonder if something is wrong with this quarantine.

David and Sally probably have had 2 walks on the deck, but other than that fully confined in their cabins.

Yes, they could have caught the virus before the quarantine started 2 weeks ago, but is this really the case? The other day a Japanese doctor tested positive after boarding the ship. How come? Is it that easy, even with a mask?

100's of other passengers are also testing positive, do they all got it before quanrantine?

Also, the fact that crew members are testing positive is a concern.

Could the virus be spreading everywhere in some way (through the food, the plates, the silverware, the vents, laundry)?

If people keep testing positive even after the 2 week quarantine period, which I think it ends tomorrow, then there is definately something wrong and things are out of control.

While the sheer number of people who have died from the flu this year staggers those who have died from the coronavirus...that isn't an accurate view of things.

    FLU

Estimated 19,000,000 people have contracted the flu this year with 10,000 of those people dying.  Or 0.05%

    CORONAVIRUS

Last check, 28,018 confirmed cases this month with 563 deaths.  Or 2.0%

Yes 10,000 is a tremendously larger number than 563.  But 2% vs 0.05% is equally as tremendous.  And we're talking 1 month of the Coronavirus vs 1 year of the flu.  Who knows what the numbers will be if the Coronavirus lasts for 12 months

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2020/02/04/coronavirus-cases-down-from-weekend-levels-as-china-predicts-fall-in-mortality-rates/

"fatality rate was 2.1% with the majority of deaths at the epicenter of the outbreak in Hubei province.
The average fatality rate was only of 0.16% outside of Hubei, with around 80% of those who died being over 60 years old. At least 75% of confirmed deaths were people who had underlying health problem such as diabetes"

We should.consider 0.16% for coronavirua, and not 2.1%, it seems.

Don't know if it's on their site.  But from the NCL section of Cruise Critic, anyone with a cruise booked on the Spirit rec'd this email a little while ago

    IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION
    CANCELLATION

    Reservation: xxxxxx

    Date: 02/07/2020

Dear Valued Guests and Travel Partners:

On behalf of Norwegian Cruise Line, thank you very much for your loyalty and for making us your vacation of choice.

Due to growing concerns regarding Coronavirus in Asia, all Norwegian Spirit sailings from April 15, 2020 through December 7, 2020 operating in Asia have been canceled. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

Please be advised that a full refund will be processed automatically to the form of payment provided at the time of booking. As a goodwill gesture, we have arranged for a future cruise credit, worth 10% toward your future cruise, to be issued. This credit will be available within 7 days and can be applied towards any of our currently published sailings if you book a new cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line in the next 45 days. Furthermore, we will cover up to $300 per person for any airfare change fees. Please submit your receipts at www.ncl.com/case-submission.

When you are interested in choosing another sailing, please contact Norwegian Cruise Line at 1-866-234-7350 or your travel professional.

For any guests booked outside of the U.S. and Canada, please visit www.ncl.com for local contact information.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and thank you for choosing Norwegian Cruise Line for your upcoming vacation at sea. We look forward to welcoming you aboard.

    Sincerely,

    Katty Byrd
    Vice President, Guest Services

    Thanks for sharing it.

I can understand a temporary cancelation, as we know all the troubles Westerdam is having to find a port of call, for example, and the Diamond Princess quarantine.

But it just surprises me the 11 month decision when we have so many unkowns.

NCL just posted that all sailings on the Spirit (which is currently in China/Singapore/Hong Kong) have been cancelled thru December 2020.  Cancelling 10 months worth of cruises (and refunding all those passengers) plus giving them all a credit for a future booking is likely costing them millions of dollars.  Which they would not do at a whim.  So leads me to believe that the cruise lines fear this might be a long ongoing issue.

Till Dec? On what basis? This is a big unknown to take such decision.

Would you happen to have the link for the site? I am curious to understand more of its details.

How were Chinese nationals on the Anthem?  Didn't they bar anyone who had been in China for the last 30 days?  Or is only MSC doing that?

Msc is 30 days, but I only heard of others requiring 14, but I can be wrong.

I first saw msc puting this requirement than others followed.

This all is very recent, and depending on the length of the cruise they could hqve embarked before this was in place.

Forgive me if these questions have already been asked ...  why are cruise ships treated differently than resort hotels, etc?  I could leave a resort if someone else gets sick in another room?  Do these quarantine rules apply to ships cruising in Caribbean waters or are these quarantines because they are in Asian waters?  We have a cruise coming up in a few weeks and I am more afraid of being quarantined than getting the virus!  One more questions ... who pays if you are kept on the ship beyond the time of your cruise? I was reading our cruise contract and it states "if you are required to remain on board the ship or elsewhere, due to injury, illness or disability or due to action of any government or authority, or for any other reason not the fault of the carrier, you must pay or reimburse Carrier for all resulting costs and expenses including for food, transportation, accommodations, medical and/or repatriation services for you and or those accompanying you.  Are these poor people being held hostage going to receive a bill at the end!

Regarding Diamond Princess quarantined in Japan:

"All guests will receive a full refund. Each guest will also receive a one hundred percent future cruise credit."

I tried to use the MSC contact form. Input my booking # and sailing date. The form highlights the date and booking# and says invalid value. Anyway know the work around? Should the booking number be preceded my letters? I would call them, but really don't want to be on hold for hours....

Not sure if the same issue, but once happened to me that the booking number started with a 0 (zero), and the form would only accept the number without the 0.

Weird workaround, but did the trick.

    Yes, it is a pain.

I found that placing the cursor immediately below the box and pressing delete does the job.
