  1. UPDATE. I called yesterday which was my final day to cancel. I waited for a little over an hour on hold. The first thing I asked the representative was for a refund on my credit card.

They put me on hold for a few more minutes and said that the money will be back on my card in 30-35 days., Minus about $100 which will be in FCC, because $50 was a gift card and I assume the other $50 was just non refundable. I didn't ask many questions, I'll probably end up never using the FCC. (I had a non refundable deposit)

Now the part that I thought of after I got off the phone. That was too easy! Am I really going to get my refund? I have had similar experience during the swine flu situation and was told certain things to get me off the phone. I guess we will see in about a month, if I don't then I guess I'll have to fight with them then to try to just give me a lift and switch or something of the like since they lied...

  2. The fact is they don't have to be more flexible, they could just offer you a refund.

Either follow this or take refund.
    31. Understanding that the same itinerary, stateroom category, sailing length, and timeframe are a requirement, is it essential that my client rebook on the same ship as well?
No, it is not required that your client rebook on the same ship or ship class.
Except they aren't offering me a refund, they are offering me a FCC. I booked to be on Harmony of the Seas, next year that ship is sailing from Italy!

I am not laying out $3500 now so I can cancel 48 hours before my cruise so I am able to get a refund.

Cruise prices are more expensive for the same time next year so my FCC won't help me out of I have to come up with extra money.

The whole situation is tough and the cruise lines are trying their best. But I think they should be offering CASH refunds. It's not their fault and it isn't my fault either.

  3. The same class ship is not a requirement. itinery type, category, timeframe and length of cruise are the qualifiers.

Well then it is going to be real interesting to talk to them because I booked Royal Caribbean based off of the ship I was sailing on. I understand that the virus isn't their fault but they have to be more flexible. Also I think my cruise will be cancelled anyway, I just don't want to lay out the cash and take a chance it won't be.

My cruise is basically 2 weeks out of the current no sail order

  4. For the most part the6 are sticking with east to east and west to west.  Also if one has western with perfect day you must switch to another western with perfect day not just western
If it has to be same class ship. During the time frame I have to rebook, oasis is sailing from New Jersey on a 9 night cruise and Harmony is sailing from Italy. I don't think it's possible to match exactly.

I have to call tomorrow and it will be interesting to see how they handle this.

  5. Itinerary type has to be the same.  Exact itinerary does not.
So by type you mean number of Nights?

My original cruise was on Harmony out of port Canaveral for 7 nights to western Caribbean.

I want to do a 7 night eastern Caribbean cruise from Miami on symphony.

Its roughly a $1700 more difference.

    Is this a possibility?

  6. When using L&S you are price protected and OBC in still applied. We did the L&S a couple of days age going from Allure 2020 to Harmony 2021.  Harmony prices were about $1500 more for the same cabin but L&S stayed the same. You must stay in the same Category, we tried to go from a 1C to a 2 C and were told no. We had no problem getting the same cabins for the B2B. Cruise planner purchases are not switched, we got a email the next day from Royal stating or cruise planner purchase was canceled and a refund to our cc would be applied.
So, was the itinerary the same? Like western Caribbean? I am confused as to what has to be the same to have the lift and switch apply. There is a whole list of requirements, I didn't know if only one had to apply or not.

  7. I have a non refundable deposit on Harmony of the Seas for an August 16 2020 sailing. I would like to be able to get similar pricing on the same ship next year. Do I have to call to "lift and switch"?

Also it doesn't seem that the Harmony is doing the same itinerary next year, if I can't book the same ship which other shops offer similar activities. I was looking forward to Flowrider and Ultimate Abyss.

  8. So my final payment date is upcoming on May 18th. Things will probably still be up in the air at that point and I'm not sure if I'm willing to cruise yet 3 months ahead of our departure.

I don't want to pay and get a refund in FCC and I don't necessarily want to cancel all together.

Can someone please tell me my options and if it may be possible to get the final payment date pushed back.

  9. At a store or a restaurant you are physically presenting a card that can be swiped at the establishment and authenticated thru embedded coding and either accepted or declined instantly via the establishment's POS system that is connected to the business's main headquarters.

A non Interbank Gift Card transaction online thru a cruiseline website requires a different level of security authentication for both your and the cruise line's protection..

Royal Caribbean is not The Cheesecake Factory.

Have you not heard of using a gift card online? What about booking a Disney vacation? I have booked a Disney Vacation entirely online and paid using a gift card for the entire balance?

    Royal Caribbean is not Disney.

If Cheesecake Factory can figure it out so should Royal Caribbean.

  10. A few more questions....

The RC App only has my sailing information, when I click on it, it tells me to check back. (170+ days out). Will I eventually be able to add excursions and packages on the app or will I always have to use the website?

No where does it say my room type ( I booked a Central Park balcony). I see people who have mentioned guarantees and knowing what level etc. Do I get that information closer to sailing?

  11. Considering how rampant fraud is in the gift card industry, I can't believe a corporation as large as Royal would even mess with them.

Every large company "messes" with them. Consider every restaurant, store and vacation destination has them. In my opinion it's a huge miss and turn off.

  12. Its asking for a serial number and authorization code. All I have is a card number, so I emailed them the card number. We will see, I purchased a small dollar amount to try out. If it works I'll go with a larger amount.

I can't believe a huge company like Royal Caribbean makes it so difficult to use a gift card. It is beyond me.

  13.
Your dining option is typically set at time of booking.  Check your Cruise Receipt, there's a line indicating your current dining assignment.  My Time Dining (MTD) allows maximum flexibility.  As it gets closer to your cruise you can make MTD reservations either online or via the app, depending on ship.  Traditional dining in the Main Dining Room (MDR) is either early or late.  Times vary depending on ship and sailing but early is usually around 5-5:30 and late 7:30-8.  As a first time cruiser I'd recommend MTD for the flexibility, allowing you to explore some of the many other dining options and to see what time best fits your cruising style.  Depending on the ship there are many places to dine, some free (Windjammer, Solarium Bistro, Park Cafe) and others cost extra (Chops, Jamie's, Izumi).

Yes you were correct, my wife informed me we selected MTD.

  14. So I am able to buy a gift card(e-gift card) with $500 for $460 plus cash back. So I called RC to ask if I would be able to use the gift card online because I didn't see the option to pay with gift card. They literally had no idea what I was even talking about. I asked 2 separate people and the only thing they could tell me was I could use a visa gift card.

Does anyone have experience paying with a gift card through the website? Or using one in general to pay for the balance of their cruise.

I am aware that in the event of a refund the gift card would credited back.

  15. If you bring a water bottle of your own, the bar cannot fill it for you. You can get glasses of water and pour into your water bottle (which is what we did).
If I bring a water bottle of my own, is there a dispenser that I can fill from at the buffet or other locations?

  16. In regards to the MDR.  Do you have My Time Dining (MTD) or traditional (Early or Late).  If you don't know, check with whomever you booked the cruise through.  I.E. a travel agent or directly through  Royal Caribbean.
I don't think I have the option to make those decisions yet. My cruise is still 184 days out. From what I read I plan on doing my time dining because I don't know when we plan on eating.

  17. So we are first time cruisers. I was on a Norwegian ship when I was little and I looked at pictures the other day and it looks very different than ships today.

Anyways I have a few questions that I couldn't find answers to on the board and some of them seem like common sense but just want to confirm.

    - ordering food at Park Cafe or Sorrento's etc, do I just walk up like I would at say a fast food restaurant and ask or is there a numbered waiting system?

    - MDR I can't imagine knowing when I will be hungry for dinner, how long of a wait should I expect for a party of 3 if I show up with no reservations? What if I make reservations and miss them completely or show up later?

    - is food from the buffet or other places allowed by the pool area?

    - what is everyone's feed back on tap water? Does it taste ok? And am I able to get a cup of water from the pool bar and refills of soda at the pool bar as well?

  18. Chances are that the only ones that care will be people on here..kind of like the shorts in the dining room debate.
Well you will for sure find me in shorts in the dining room. I never understood that, the dressing up thing has created such a negative stigma for cruises.

  19. Welcome to CC.

You probably want to avoid any drink package sharing questions on CC.
So does that mean no one will answer me? I get that it's cheap and it's not ethical, but I'm sure I'm not the only one to have this question.

My wife and daughter would barely drink a can of soda between them.

  20. Follow up question. If I buy the soda package how tightly monitored is it if the cup of soda is sitting on the table during a meal and my wife daughter and I all share?

My wife and daughter usually drink water during meals but occasionally like a sip or 2 of soda. Not worth buying the package for all 3, barely for me but would consider it if we can share.
