  1. We found the rules in Europe are different. We were able to bring liquor on the ship, in fact, there was a liquor store at the embarkment area in Barcelona and everyone stocked up and brought on the ship, no problem. The security over there doesn’t enforce the same liquor rules. I would not get the drink package.

  2. You guys are great and i thank you all for the advice. I have decided to look for a TA. I know it is against policy to name them here but are hints acceptable? Thank you thank you!!!!!

  3. Thanks everyone, i appreciate the offers to assist me with my questions since i keep getting conflicting information. Here are a few i had:

    1. Can i debark anytime since the ship stays overnight on day 13? Day 14 is last day at Papeete.

    2. HAL is offering special air for this cruise from lax to ppt for $999. I want to book my own from msp to lax, was told both yes and no. Also was told i needed a flight to arrive 5 hours before the lax flight.

    3. Can i use their flight special for 1 way only? The return flight leaves very late 11pm. I was told because it is a charter.

    4. Does anyone book the nonrefundable fare? I would just need to buy insurance correct? Oh and at the booking time?

    5. Has anyone done the 14 day idyll south polynesian cruise from Papeete to Papeete with HAL in previous years? I would love to hear about.

Thanks everyone, i really appreciate your response!

  4. If i should book a HAL 14 day Idyll south pacific cruise. I have not been on HAL cruise so i have been calling and asking lots of questions. Everytime i call i get different answers and this concerns me so much that i am considering not booking with them. The problem is they have a very well priced cruise to the south pacific in which i cannot find with any other line unless i want to pay alot more or fly from Sydney. Can someone please talk me into why i should book the masdam 14 day sailng to the south pacific with them?

  5. A cancellation of the third guest may result in you being moved to another cabin that has double occupancy. As triples are highly sought after. If the fare has gone up any..then you may have to pay the difference. Also, with cancellation on early saver the third guest will get a future cruise credit and not refund on cruise fare and a $25 admin fee. But will get the port fees and taxes back automatically.

  6. Even if you don't cancel the person cruising, get the Cheers! refunded now. It can't be canceled on the day of sailing (as far as what the Carnival website says).

But then i would have to refund cheers for all 3 and the other 2 still want it and they got a discounted price bc purchased before Jan 1

  7. First of all, no insurance but that is ok.

Cruise is Paid in full and leaves in a week. There are 3 adults in a cabin. All purchased Cheers.

One person can no longer go and we will not replace that person.

Was just going to do a "no show" but will that person get a refund for Cheers and port.

no reason to cancel because we booked early saver and no insurance and are fine with not getting a refund for the cruise but would like refund for cheers but heard that you have to cancel cheers in advance, in that case would have to do a Cancel versus "no Show". Correct?

  8. OP, not sure you want to hear facts or just need to vent. The reason they have penalties for late changes is it keeps everything normal. Before they had it people were holding rooms (which drove up pricing) then cancel for any reason, frequently right before the cruise. To specifically answer your question, name changes late in the game, while better than canceling prevent the game playing that cruisers would employ to get out of paying if it (the charge) was just for cancelations.

Early saver rates and their policies have dramatically enhanced stabile pricing and we are all better off for it being in place.

Thanks Jimbo! This is what i was looking for, the facts. This makes perfect sense.

  9. To StolidCruiser- i said its terms and policy if you can read. Businesses usually want to make money and they won make money this way unless some sucker pays another fee for something that was paid for. I have no worries as i get 100% refund. I just was asking for another perspective and got a bunch of know it all comments.

  10. Lots of salty people who clearly did NOT understand my post. Except for Dallasguy. I was wondering why they would not want to make more money off the misc on board items versus nothing. Oh and yes they have until the day of to submit names so mosaicmom you posted wrong info. Geez do people make this up?

  11. to do a name change a week before? Really? I understand its in the terms and policy's but I would think they would rather make the extra money from having another person spend on Drinks, shore excursions, spa, casino etc rather than let it go empty.

I am not worried about what i spent on the cruise bc i have insurance (not with Carnival) but why should i have another person pay the full price, plus have them not give me any refund? Sounds like a good deal for them.

    What am i not understanding?
