If I understand what you are saying, I purchase the Plus when I board, not pre-cruise?  Then I go to CS and pay with my GC.  Does this interfere with on-board credit used for other things?  How do they keep it separate and use it only for Plus?

    Yes, you understood correctly.

Onboard purchases will first get deducted from any OBC first until depleted then will start deducting from gift card.

    Cheers

Edit to add: Most (but not all) OBC is use it or loose it. If that is the case you would want the OBC to be used up first. If there is still credit left over on your gift card at the end of the cruise you get that amount put back on gift card. So don’t throw the copy of GC and pass code away.

Will be bringing Euros with me.  But, I was only able to get big bills.  I'm thinking of bringing US single dollars with me.   Can we tip in Europe with US Dollars?  Like if I wanted to tip say $22 dollars, can I do it in Euros and two singles?

Also, I am under the assumption that only US citizens tip over in Europe.  So, my other question is, why do Americans tip if other nationalities don't?

We don't tip in Europe or any other civilized country that doesn't tip

These look like they have square holes and the pictures of the medallion look round.  Does the medallion stay secure in this?

Yea, those fit Fitbit and not AirTags. Go with the bands that fit AirTags

I had a refund due to a price drop.  The cards were refunded within a day.  They did not tell me which cards were refunded, but I had copies and was able to figure it out. I used the cards for another cruise.

Ours were given back on cards when we cancelled.

It was for an Australia cruise and knew they were not going to open back up during Covid (they were just starting vaccinations there while we already had a second dose here in the US).

Anyway, it was a day or two before the cards were loaded back up.

We used our TA to take care of everything and it didn’t take long at all.

Need to add we canceled before full payment was due. We just applied the gift cards early just to get it out of the way.

    Cheers

Can you use gift cards to upgrade to Plus / Premier after booking? I know it's not possible through the website, but if I call?

Yes but purchase when boarding (same price). Then deposit you gift card(s) at customer service onboard and they will deduct price of the Plus/Premier that was purchased onboard (along with any additional purchases onboard).

If you go to the website sfport.com and make sure you are looking at the 4/5/24 update it shows Pier 80. The roll call for the Pacific Coastal 4/27 also has some info about this.

I guess Mr. Google didn’t point me to the updated schedule.

We are returning on the Crown on the 27th but looks like our Pier 27 hasn’t changed so hopefully our pickup will not be affected.

Hi. Can you tell me where I can confirm Pier80 please?  Everywhere I look says Pier 35 and I will book a hotel in a different location if it’s 80.   Thanks

Yes @hobo1937, we would all like to know where that info is listed.

All SF official docs state just Pier 27 for Crown and Pier 35 for Grand

It is easier to just visit the muster station first while you are already on deck 7 where the stations are located.

Exactly how we have done it, reversed the order and do muster station first then when cabin is open and while unpacking watch the video on the cabin TV 👍

And, you are post #5 in this thread.  I guess we should ignore it since it’s “a waste of time”.  Perhaps you should rethink your advice.  lol

Oh I know its chatter at this point🤣

Hello fellow cruisers!   I am new to princess.  Not sure what I need to do with dining or pre cruise reservations.  I also tried to download the medallion app but it does not come up in my apple app search. Any help is appreciated!

    Welcome!

A suggestion is to enjoy reading previous threads on here to learn everything you could want to know about cruising on Princess.

As a timesaver tip, only read the first 3 posts under each thread for the answers, All the following posts on a thread is a waste of time 🙂

Please, what is distance and time to pier from SFO?  Weekday mid morning?  Thanks

Plan on a half hour. Distance is not that much, it's the traffic.

To @jacketwatch, just a friendly tip, do not use the term "San Fran" when you get here 🙂

    See you onboard!

Your folio is a complicated one.  Did you already start the insurance claim with AON?  Much of the above list should be reimbursed as trip interruption.  It will take longer than a month as AON communicates with Princess to decide to owes what.

I don't know if you are of Medicare age, but that is the first thing that needs to be filed AND denied.  It took Medicare 120 days to deny my claim.  60 days to tell me that I needed to resubmit with the itinerary attached.  Then another 60 days to tell me that I was "outside" the US and denied the claim.

Only then could my personal insurance and AON could start processing my claim.  My personal insurance picked up everything Medical.  Shortly after submitting what they paid, AON paid the rest.

    You explained the process perfectly😊👍

Much better than my response of  “it’s going to take a hell of a lot more time than 1 month to get it all straiten out”😊

We got our Medallions today! Mine is Gold and my husband’s also should be but it’s Blue. Has this ever happened to anyone? Will they send a new one? I haven’t been able to get anyone from Princess on the phone.

Hello all. My partner received a phone call today from a CVP, then a subsequent email which outlines the perks of something called Princess Promotions. Email basically stipulates that we pay one price and receive future cruise credit, onboard credit, hotel credit and stay certificates. First, I’ve never heard of this, so is it legit? And second, if legitimate, has anyone ever taken advantage of this offer? TIA

Seriously doubt it was a CVP or any employee of Princess (though they would want you to believe they are from the data they purchased from Princess).

As others suggested, do a search here on CC on them and then run, not walk away from it.

An interesting little article on the history of US passports:  The History of the US Passport - The Most Coveted Travel Document in the World - (passportinfoguide.com)

I remember my first passport, which I got in 1970, was only valid for 5 years.

Interesting little article regarding US passports. I’m sure other countries histories would be a little different.

Though this thread has changed directions, as most threads here on CC do (OP issue had been identified and resolved in a happy ending), I think the more info we share about getting a passport if cruising the better the outcome for those new to cruising.

Next year you will no longer be able to fly within the US using a regular driver's license.  Just a heads up as sure things will get crazy at local DMVs.

To the OP - glad you were able to get it sorted quickly and apparently pretty painlessly.

lol…. I can’t even remember how many times we have heard this🤣.

Dont get me wrong, I have a passport, Global Entry, and verified ID. The problem isn’t me, it’s the other half of the US population that continues to drag their feet (and this includes some state governments).

Having two devices connected at the same time is handy for me. I can be working on the laptop and still have access to my social media through my phone without having to interrupt what I am doing. OK, I could live without the second connection but as I always have premier it makes sense to use them.

I also accept that the way I use my devices is unusual and most people would not get much benefit from having more than one connection IMO.

I’m the same way. It’s nice to feel understood. 🙂

Okay, then why not then turn on your hotspot in your laptop to connect cell phone?

WOW!! that's wonderful!   i used the chat feature twice to contact customer service at Princess and they both told me a limit of 10.    another example of the failing customer service at Princess then!  thank you for letting me know!

If you read enough threads here on CC you will see that trying to get a question answered by a factual response by either calling Princess or doing the chat function is impossible. The people at the call/chat center are extremely inexperienced people in a foreign country who have no idea what they are talking about 90+% of the time. But yet, so many people believe them because they don’t know better.

The stories here make it sound like they really just start making up their own answers without actually knowing the truth. I personally have never had to call them because I always use a TA that inexperienced and knows the true facts.

Regardless of my little rant, I’m glad you took advantage of the AARP gift cards. They have saved us a lot of $ throughout the years once I read about them on CC.

Still amazed why people put themselves through the stressful wondering if they will arrive.

To be honest, personally I just like the feeling I get of receiving them. It just mentally makes it official that our cruise is coming up really soon.

Its the closest we get now a days to that feeling we use to get many-many years ago when we got this huge package from FedEx with our “official” boarding docs and literature of all the excursions that were available (before you could pre-book them) and a bunch of cruise line swag.

For us, it’s just kind of cool to get something physical that starts us getting excited about the upcoming cruise. But, certainly wouldn’t freak out if it didn’t get to us on time.

    Cheers

PS: Wildcats are looking pretty good in the NCAA tournament 😊

Definately. We like going to the dining room, but as this is a 21 night cruise, there may be some days we just want to eat in and not dress up. We will just have to pay the $7.50 charge. Another interesting fact is that I would like a kettle. I am told I can’t have one, just order from room service…….that will incur a $7.50 charge for hot water!

You can ask your cabin steward for a kettle. There have been reports here that sometimes they will provide one even for cruises not specifically on Oz or European itineraries. The worst they can say is no but, they likely have some onboard and tend to give suite passengers a little more service.

    Cheers
