One way train/ one way bus with Chilkoot Charters is what I would recommend. Car is nice to stop when you want but I wouldn't do it on the first trip.
I am going to Bennett with Chilkoot Charters mid June and they are all booked up so I wouldn't wait too long to decide.

If you are going to do , book it through the cruise line.

There will be a large amount of b2b passengers and usually there is no rush to board since most ships don’t sail till after 8:00 from that port
We are coming on the train. Was going to do 26 glacier cruise, but we have to make sure my sister's scooter rental is in the room. We may have leisurely lunch and walk around Whittier for a bit. Which should take about 30 minutes, right?

Kat…are you going on the Discovery? There’s a roll call for it.
I am looking forward to boarding!
No. I am on the Sapphire leaving from Whittier on the 15th.

11 days before your cruise, boarding pass becomes available on the app at the top like excursions, dining, etc.
Ok. Not there yet but I know where to look now. I don't sail until June 15 so I have few more days. Thanks!

I was on the first Alaska sailing this month. The ship didn't even make it to the glacier. Weather was fine but Captain said there were too many icebergs in the way. Many passengers were disappointed especially those travelling from far away places.
What glacier didn't you get close to?
-
Not a silly question. I wanted to know the latest I could board so I could do an excursion. Sailing is June 15 and I still don't know. My plans have changed so it no longer matters but it is weird that I couldn't have that information by now.

The moose were on the bus ride from Anchorage to Seward. They like swampy areas.
We did not see any puffin in Seward. The only port I saw those in was on the whale watch I did in Icy Straight Point and we were way out in the bay when we found them. I did see birds in Seward but mostly arctic terns and sea gulls.
Interesting. I have never seen puffins in ISP area.
Glad you were able to see them and the moose.

As for wild life I saw: Moose (5), sea lions including endangered stellar sea lions, harbor seals, otters, puffin, resident orca family in Seward on a whale watch on my own before boarding, and many humpbacks including mamas and their new calfs, bald eagles, and many birds.
Where did you see the moose?
I am hoping to see puffins in Seward in a couple of weeks!

I know - that's what I was asking about 😝
How did you get to the glacier (since it wasn't helicopter)?
I'm just wondering what I should be looking up so we can figure out how to have this as a backup option!
It was helicopter. Your back up option is with your current vendor.

Are there buses that take you to the glaciers if the helicopters aren't running? Or how would we get there?
Thank you in advance!
I went with Coatal helicopter. I am responding to the post above about being offered a walk on the glacier if your excursion is canceled. The helicopter goes to a different place and still may be running. I am recommending to take that as a second option if your excursion is canceled.

No. I actually like Hubbard glacier more than glacier bay and celebrity goes there.
Glacier bay was foggy 1 out of the 3 times that I have been there.

I did not do the helicopter with the dog sled, but walking on the glacier for a short time is one of the best excursions that I ever did. Definitely something to consider if your excursion is canceled.

We had this excursion booked through Princess for our June Sapphire cruise, but it was cancelled a couple months ago by Princess due to 'operational reasons'. I assume it's time constraints. We're very disappointed as it was a highlight we had been looking forward to.
What cruise are you on? I have this excursion booked for the June 15 sapphire princess cruise.

It works very well and is a very nice service.

To leave the luggage at the Pan Pacific, do we need $10 in cash or would they take credit card?
What's the easiest way to get to the Pan Pacific after picking up our luggage? I thought I saw a picture on another post but couldn't find it.

Martincath,
Thanks so much for the information.
We decided to do the whale watch on Granville Island.
You think we can disembark at 9, leave luggage at pan pacific and get to GI by 10?
What time should we leave the pan pacific for the 10pm flight?
We will use the wheelchair assistance in the airport. How do we book a time for security check?
Thanks

Thank you for sharing! We have decided to do it and reading this makes me more excited. I am of the opinion that people can ruin most anything... 🙂 but we will try to tune everything out and just enjoy.
Thanks again.
It's one of my favorite excursions. Very different than seeing the other glaciers. I think you will enjoy it.

Thanks, Martincath,
Where would we store our luggage if we did the whale watch?
I would prefer larger catamaran which looks like Prince of Whales. It might be tough taking a bus. How much would taxi/uber be to Granville Island?

I always get an inside cabin to spend the money on excursions.
Plenty of good spots to watch for wildlife and glaciers in the public area.
