  1. My move up bid disappeared. The cruise starts on Saturday and it had been in pending status for weeks.  I didn't get an email stating I didn't win either.  Has this happened to anyone?  I emailed celebrity, but no response yet.  Do the bids just go away without any notification?

It's a decent sized station, but they wouldn't program it this way if it wasn't possible to make the connection.

You'll likely need to go down a flight of stairs to the underpass and up again to the next track, but it's only steps away.

According to the program, your first train arrives on platform (binario) #4, while the next train departs from #8.  These may change in practice, but that's the published plan.

Thank you.  I feel a little better about this.  I'll make sure I have my running shoes on.

  3. We did this trip last summer.  The flight from Trieste to Miami on Delta.  It left early am, before 7 am.  Our connection was 2.5 hours thru Rome.  We stayed in Trieste over night and had a very pleasant day walking thru town and had a nice dinner.  If you have the time, highly recommend you stay one additional day.

If you are doing this "tour" you could book "skip the line" tickets for both the Colosseum and Vatican.

If taking a taxi, be very sure of the denomination of the currency you hand over - some drivers are quite adept at palming a smaller note and saying "you only gave me . . . "

Fortunately I had been warned about this in advance and when the driver became threatening I told him he could call the police - he left with what I gave him - the correct amount plus tip he did not deserve due to his extortion attempt.

Thanks for the heads up on the taxis.  I purchased the Vatican Tickets but it appears I can't purchase the Colosseum tics until 30 days before.

    Hi Chris

We did this tour yesterday. You’re right about the actual journey duration, but there’s a bit of dwell time at the dock while you wait for everyone to board the coach, so we departed at around 8.30am. Then around 10 minutes shuttle to the station, more waiting around to board the train which was scheduled to leave at 9.07 but was 10 minutes delayed. So we eventually arrived in Rome St Pietro station around 10am. Then a walk to Vatican City before we were left to our own devices. We had to be back at the station by 4.20pm, so we did have around 6 hours on our own.
we walked to the Colosseum (long walk!!) but were there by 12. You could also get a taxi.

There were very long lines to get in to the Vatican so I don’t think you’d be able to do the Vatican in the morning and then the Colosseum in the afternoon.

In the end (after our very long walk) we got back to the station around 3pm and bought a ticket for an earlier train (we had the tour guide’s number so we could let her know we were leaving the tour).

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you for your info.  Very helpful.  How did you get back to the port when you arrived back in Civitavecchia?  Any problems finding a taxi in Rome?

  6. Has anyone joined the Independent Exploration: Shuttle and Express Train to City.  It says its a 10 hour excursion, but only 5.5 hours in the city.  Do you know what time it arrives/leaves Rome?  Train is only 1 hour and shuttle busses take 10 minutes from port to train.   We have tickets to the Vatican Guided tour which is 2 hours and ends at 3.  Would we have time to do the Colesseum in the morning?

Hi, were on the Celebrity Edge on Jul 22.  We plan to take the train from Civitavecchia to Rome.  The ship docks at 7 am.  What's the soonest we'll be able to exit the ship.  We're in a Concierge Class cabin, if that makes a difference.  Are the taxis readily available to take us to the train station?  Would it be realistic to plan to board the 7:58 am train?  Thanks!

Yikes.  I just realized we're on the July 15 cruise.  Lol.  Too many trips planned this year.

We did this a few years ago and you need to be aware there can be train strikes, please have a back up plan

Good thought.  Hopefully no strike or at least it won't occur without a few days notice.  We could take the Celebrity on your own in Rome excursion.  Im assuming they would most likely switch to a bus vs the bus/train and only spend 5 hours hours there.  Has anyone done this excursion.

630am is when the ship is SCHEDULED to begin letting self-carry off

Docking and when you're allowed off are two different things as the terminal needs to be fully staffed

Hi.  We're not disembarking at Civitavecchia.  This is a stop in our itinerary and Celebrity says were in port from 7 to 7.  We continue on and disembark in Barcelona later in the week.  Hopefully we'll be able to get off shortly after 7.

    • Thanks 1

  11. I recently cancelled my discounted air for a flight from FLL to San Juan PR.  My trip was three months away, but NCL placed a temporary itinerary that had us flying to Atlanta, then San Juan.  We would have been traveling more than seven hours for what should have been 2.5 hours.  I was able to get non stop flights at the same price as the BOGO special.
