I just went to the CDC site for COVID-19 and cruise ship travel, which was updated Aug. 20. I couldn't find that. If the senior is at increased risk in the case of infection, yes. But it doesn't make that blanket statement. Could you provide your source? Because CDC considers anyone over the age of 50 a senior and that would effectively shut down the cruise industry again.

I also went to the CDC website and, while not clear, the CDC implies that older folk should not cruise.  In the page on crusing, there is a link for those at risk of severe illness.  If you click on that link it takes you to https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/index.html

This page lists older adults as being at risk.  I must emphasize that the CDC is being vague on this.

If anyone's interested in seeing photos from our August 3 - 10 trip on Jupiter, my photo galleries are here, with captions: https://pbase.com/roothy123   You don't have to sign in or anything pesky like that, just look.  But you'll need to look at separate galleries for each place we visited - i.e., Reykjavik through Heimaey.  And be sure to push the "All" button at the bottom of each gallery to display all pictures for that gallery.  (In other words, there are multiple pages.)  The photos are mostly of places we went on excursions.  I didn't take a lot of photos on the ship. But for those still traveling to Iceland, it may be helpful to get a preview of some of the things you'll see and do.

    Nice pictures!

Correction: Just heard from Viking that under their normal cancellation policy, payments for transfers are non-refundable as is true of payments for travel protection plan. Gratuities and excursions are refundable in cash or credit card.

Do I understand you correctly?  Are you not getting anything back - refunds or vouchers - except what you paid for excursions and gratuities?  If so, I'm really sorry to hear that.

Thanks, all, for the feedback on cancelling excursions. I cancelled ours today and have until Monday (I think) to cancel the 7 Sep cruise without penalty.

What's the best way to ensure your cruise cancellation goes thru if you aren't using a TA?   (Please, no comments about the benefits of using a TA!)

    Call Viking directly.

  5. IMO, flying Icelandic Air is only better if you can do a non-stop flight - most Delta flights require connecting flights.  Also, the Delta return trip is very early in the morning.  It is my understanding that you'll need to disembark at 5:30 a.m. to make the Delta return flight.

I have not been there yet but from these boards it appears Viking will pick you up at airport and take you to a concert hall for check in and feed you some breakfast until 11 a.m. when they will take you to the ship.
