Even with preexisting conditions you can find plans to insure you for that if you just buy a minimum amount to cover the deposit and then increase coverage once you pay the balance. We did this for our Japan trip next year. All you need to do is take out coverage within X days of your initial payment and you are covered. The minimum coverage cost us about $100 so if we need to cancel, we only lose that. Check out the explainer at TheTripInsuranceStore

Thanks very much — good to know for future cruises.

I clicked on the link in MVJ and it populated the promo code in the booking screen. Maybe the link is required.

Yes, that could be it — I didn’t do that, and wish I had known. I received a letter in the U.S. Mail, and tried to use the code in Price & Build on the Viking Ocean website (that didn’t work). If I had been able to book it myself, I wouldn’t have been talked into adding the travel insurance for a cruise that isn’t until 2026. I don’t have any pre-existing conditions, so I could have waited, and had the option to cancel the cruise, if necessary.

This message appeared in MVJ today. First time I ever saw this.

Promo FV424, usable on website if you already have a booking.

FYI, this FV424 promo code did NOT work for me online, even though I was eligible (had an existing booking). I had to call a Viking agent to book it, and it worked first time. Others might have the same experience.

In my experience with a later flight, Viking offered an included excursion before we were transported to the airport.

We flew home from Buenos Aires in February.  Our flight was at 10 pm.  On departure day, we had breakfast and a few hours on our own.  After lunch Viking took us on an excursion for several hours.  We returned to the hotel to collect our luggage then Viking took us to the airport.  Worked out very well.

Same here, last month. We had a late flight (booked through Viking) from Reykjavik. Icelandair reps relieved us of our baggage at the cruise terminal, and then we were bussed to the Harpa Concert and Convention Hall. We were in a reserved restaurant, with snacks and drinks. There was time to walk and shop, if we wished. Then the same bus driver returned and took us to the airport, narrating the drive. We were pleased with the arrangements, although we weren’t able to learn what they would be until late in the cruise.

I think it’s funny they are calling this a “closer to home” sale. The flights to/from Santiago/Ushuaia aren’t exactly short! 😂

I think the “closer to home sale” refers to the bottom part of the ad, below the lead-in  “Also repositioning sailings,” referring to the Autumn repositioning of the expedition ships, with portions that visit ports in Canada and the U.S.

Depends on where/when you’re going. And actually, the free air promo on one we just booked (Bergen to Reykjavik in July) is only for  economy. Add on deviation, VA+, & upgrade fees for premium or business and you’re talking a few grand. We’ll only do the VA+ if the total is less expensive, of course. But pricing airfares now out of Seattle for decent schedules to Iceland/Scandinavia next July are very high.

Hi, Linda. I live in Seattle, too,  and will take the same cruise a month later! FYI, there’s a good Roll Call for your cruise on this site, started by MomOf3. Drill down to Viking Saturn, then look for the 5 July 2023 cruise and get to know your fellow passengers. I’ll watch it next July, in case people continue to post about the cruise in progress. Visiting Svalbard is on my husband’s bucket list, so we’re excited!

    Update...

    [Excerpted from longer post]

If this was a few hundred dollars I wouldn't go through this aggravation but the savings is now $5794.26 which is A LOT of money!!! Hell...It's potentially another trip!

Soooo....now I play the waiting game. (Cue the Jeopardy song)🎶

FLORIDA FLOUNDER, how about an update? Were you successful in saving that money, and getting the stateroom you wanted? I’ve been in suspense!

That's excellent  information! Thanks so much!

I see the mocktails and NA beer are also available at the Viking Bar, and I suspect at the bar that serves Star Theater. Torshavn has things the other bars don’t, and Seedlip is probably one. At hosted parties, such as a welcome event or Explorer’s Society where sparkling wine is distributed by servers, there is usually at least one non-alcoholic drink in a rocks glass  on the trays; if not, you could just ask. Glad you liked my answer!

Ok, here's a new one. Hubby has to avoid slchohol this time. Does anyone know if Viking offers any non alchoholic beers or wines? We have found some OK IPAs and a few wines that he will drink (though I think they are terrible). Obviously, we will NOT be getting SS package this time and I will use OBC to purchase the drinks I want.

I found more non-alcoholic drinks for your hubby. In Torshavn only, under GIN:

SEEDLIP SPICE 94, Alcohol free, England 4cl $7

In both Torshavn and Pap’s Explorer’s Bar, under MOCKTAILS (alcohol free):
ABSTINENCE ON THE BEACH, orange juice, cranberry juice, peach nectar, grenadine
COCONUT LAVENDER LEMONADE, lemon juice, sugar, coconut water, lavender syrup
MINT JULEP, fresh mint, sugar, lemon juice, Sprite, ginger ale
I haven’t seen alcohol-free wines on any bar menu, so you must have to ask for them.

My husband likes the Carlsberg (Danish, I think) non-alcoholic beer, available in every bar.

    Enjoy your cruise!

The bar menu lists one “Non-alcoholic Beer.” On Viking Mars, it’s CURRENTLY Carlsberg Nordic Beer, but wouldn’t count on it being the same on your cruise. If I see a non-alcoholic wine, I’ll let you know.
