  1. Hello everyone!

I know it took me forever to come back an update, but for those interested here's what ended up happening:

Final payment was due August 17th. On Friday August 14th the construction was supposed to give me back the gift cards. However, he had a family emergency and couldn't do it that day. I let him know final payment was due on Monday and could he please meet me anywhere during the weekend. He agreed to Sunday and asked that I text him in the morning.

I texted at 10am. He didn't reply until 11:40. I was biting my nails and decided to call Carnival to see if I had until midnight Monday... they said 10:15AM!!! I told him this, and he said later in the afternoon he would let me know where and what time we could meet.

We waited, and waited, and waited (and had anxiety attacks x10!) and by 5:30pm he said to meet him at a parking lot at 8:30pm. Me and husband are there waiting by 8:15, then suddenly I get a call from him saying that his business credit card won't allow him to buy gift cards and that he can log into my reservation and pay it off from his house.

OH HEEEEEEEEEEEELL NO! I was already at that parking lot, the least he could do was show up!

Now the next problem becomes that I am out $1,500 from the value of the cards, (in reality I am out $1,350 which is what I paid and would accept back as a minimum), but I only owe $1,200 on the cruise so if he were to pay it he would be shorting me! Therefore I make a quick decision to upgrade us to a balcony right then and there. I call Carnival and I'm holding for over 15minutes and praying they answer ASAP when he arrives.

Thankfully, he then proceeded to pay off the reservation and stated he would leave a check for the difference at my leasing office! :D

When I went to pick up the check on Monday, they did refund me the full $1,500 and while I was sitting there waiting there was a tenant that came in to request some service and was told they were a little behind on the construction because one of the crews was LET GO! I'm not 100% sure it was because of this incident, but if it was then sweet sweet karma I welcome you.

All in all it was a terrible couple of weeks but it made me be more thankful than ever for my husband who stuck by my side and made the storm wayyyy more bearable.

At least the company didn't try to shift blame and stepped up to right a wrong, and for that I commend them!

  2. Hi guys!

    To answer some questions:

    - My renter's insurance has a clause only $250 coverage for gift cards.

    - The supervisor at Verizon does not know if they keep track of the gift card numbers, and I have called back a couple of times but she always seems to be unavailable.

    - I did uncontrollably sob into my husband's arms once it dawned on me I was paying for 2 cruises but only going on one :(

    - We did turn our apartment upside down looking for them, hoping they had just been misplaced (which makes no sense because why would we have an empty envelope just laying around). We would've ripped the carpet up if there was any possibility they were underneath.

    - Nothing else was taken, but there had been strange occurrences, such as me getting home and finding a light on (I'm very careful to turn everything off when I leave) and my freezer WIDE open and stuff melted inside. A different day my toilet lid was up. I know I live with a man, but I have known him for 12 years and he NEVER leaves the lid up. EVER. Also, I wonder if they thought they were credit cards... it was the one envelope that was bigger and sticking out above all other, and at a quick glance they might have grabbed thinking credit cards or Visa gift cards or something.

However, it looks like my story is going to have a happy ending after all!

Yesterday I got a message from the construction company stating they are going to refund my money in full!!!!!!! :D:eek::D

The guy said he is getting me gift cards and that he would get them tomorrow (today). I'm still a little skeptical and afraid to believe it, since it sounds too good to be true, but once I have them in my hands I will post back and will also leave great reviews for the company in every social media site and with the BBB.

Thank you for all your god vibes coming my way, I believe CC had something to do with our good luck! :p

  3. Renter's insurance would come in handy.

As far as holding the contractors liable, I don't see how that could be done unless one of them eventually used the cards. There's no proof they took them. No cameras or anything.

The OP shouldn't feel guilty for not using the cards right away. You brought them. You can use them whenever you like. Who would think you would have to rush and pay off your cruise just in case a thief came in your home. Sorry this happened to you.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Definitely puts things in perspective, it is MY house after all! And I'm glad some people are rethinking their storage place for these cards, maybe I can help prevent another terrible incident!

  4. So.... REALLY odd posting for someone in Tampa looking to sell $1000 in CCL cards because they "aren't into cruising". Not sure why they would have $1000 in cards if they didn't want to cruise. Don't know that there is ANY way that you could ever make a connection back on the off chance that these were yours.

Oh my gosh, where did you see this posting? If it turns out that Verizon does have which numbers belonged to me I would like to check it out.

  5. they might have been stolen from me...

    -------------

    Hi guys!

July the 7th I bought 3 $500 Carnival gift cards through Verizon. I was over the moon as I had been stalking them for weeks.

The cards arrived in the mail on the 17th, I opened the envelope, took a look at them but decided to hold off on paying my cruise just yet - trust me I am beating myself up for this decision.

We were having construction done on our apartment complex during the next 2 weeks. Absolutely no one except the construction workers, me and my husband went into our apartment. Last Thursday I decided to pay it off, grabbed the envelope (same padded one they came in) and it was empty. :(

Cue end of the world music here. We had been saving for 3 years for this cruise. We never took a honeymoon and this was finally going to be it. I was going to upgrade from our OV to a balcony. We owe $1200 on the cruise so with the gift cards we were also going to have $300 onboard credit. I had booked Chef's Table, our first time. I was looking forward to martini's at the Alchemy Bar and buying lots of photos with all the onboard credit I was going to save up for in the next 3 months.

We have to pay for our cruise all over again and final payment is due August 17th. I got a call from my PVP yesterday to remind me, it was heartbreaking. Now every time I think of the cruise I can't help but feel a pang of sadness.

Verizon's position is that they are not responsible for lost or stolen cards. The construction company says that we will "figure something out" but still no concrete answer.

I filed a police report, but one of my coworkers mentioned that maybe the person that took them would try to sell them, so I decided to post this so buyer beware!

Additionally, if you have any horror stories in which your vacation was ruined or nearly ruined and you would like to commiserate with me, please, tell me your stories, misery loves company! :o

  6. Given the following, do you think FTTF is worth it?

*We always get to the port super early and don't mind waiting there for them to begin boarding.

*Leaving from Port Canaveral (in case some find this relevant)

*Ports are: St Marten (with 4 other ships in port that day), and the day where it seems there's a possibility we might tender.

*St Kitts: have excursion with Carnival scheduled so no worries about what time we get off the ship.

*Puerto Rico: meeting family so would like to get off the ship ASAP and the reason I'm considering FTTF, but since we dock, how much time could it save us if we are up bright and early and ready to go?

*Grand Turk: dock, not in a hurry to get off ship.

So, in your opinion, is it worth it in our situation?

  7. Thank you everyone for your replies!

To clear some things up, I would be bringing the food back to the ship to eat there, not back home. I don't need any more food than there is on the ship but whoever said about the Latino culture, this is absolutely true. We show our love through food :p it's impossible to visit my family and not walk away with a truckload of food! Especially if they cook something delicious for me, I would love to be able to bring some leftovers to munch on later. It's not everyday that I get to eat my mother's food

For the alcohol, it's just 2 bottles of rum I can't find in Florida.

I guess I'll have to try with the food, and worst case scenario me and hubby will eat it right there before getting on the ship or my mother will have to understand

  8. Hello fellow cruisers!

I am cruising on the Sunshine to Puerto Rico. This is where I was born and raised, therefore will be meeting with lots of family.

Since there have been so many policy changes lately I am getting a bit confused as to what is allowed and whatnot.

There is a rum sold in PR that I can't find in the US and would like to bring back a bottle (or two :D) of it back. Not necessarily back to the cabin, but will they keep it and give back at the end of the cruise?

Additionally, knowing my mother and aunts they will be offering food for us to take back non-stop. What kinds of foods (if any) can we bring on the ship? I would assume it would have to be pre-packaged like candy and such?

If anyone has been on the Sunshine to PR lately how strict was it coming back onto the ship?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

  9. Ha, not trying to broadcast it, but husband would love to have the option since I have been know to take an hour or sixteen in the shower. :o[/quote

one of the reasons we get spa deck. If you are waiting for a pokey roommate, go down to the spa and shower off. Use their towels.:)

:D HAHAHA yes :o I just wanted to make sure that DH was not gonna be stinky at the MDR

  10. to answer your question, YES, you can use the showers, anyone can. There are not a lot of people that know that though.

Ha, not trying to broadcast it, but husband would love to have the option since I have been know to take an hour or sixteen in the shower. :o

  11. There are two area for showers, atleast that was the case on the Breeze.

Two sets in the bathroom were the sauna is at by the GYM, and anyone can go in those.

Two other sets in the bathroom in the actual spa area, those have some side shower heads but nothing too speacial. I think in there they expect to see your SPA bracelet.

    hope that helps some.

    Thank you, definitely helps!

  12. After dinner, we watched caught part of the SpongeBob Movie up on the Lido deck at the Seaside theater. Just an FYI, you can now rent blankets during the movies from the towel stand. I had no idea! They were super warm and fuzzy. Weird for a tropical cruise, but it felt cold out there!

::GASP:: I would LOVE to have a blanket out there, what was the fee for renting?

  13. Forgive me if this is a silly question, but it has been around 4 years since my last cruise and I don't know if things have changed...

Is it still possible to use the showers in the Spa even if we don't have a spa cabin? If so, do we just walk in and head to the showers - no questions asked, or do we need a special magical key? :p

Last thread I found about this was from April of last year and I'd like to see if anyone has more updated info?

We're on the Sunshine in October.

    Thanks in advance!!

  14. No, If it's not showing up at all, or your home port is showing a "home port advisory" it's not been released for sale yet. If it's been for sale and already sold out the excursion will show, and when you go to click on it, it will say "sold out". Once sold out the FTTF icon does not disappear. So, if you are not seeing it yet, it's not been released yet.

I think something must be wrong then, because I sail on 10/31/2015. FTTF should've been posted already. Any insight?

  15. Usually this is around the time they are loaded

I was able to put 3 $500 cards in my cart, but as soon as I tried to check out it now says: "Product has only 0 inventory quantity. Please lower the quantity in order to continue check out"

I think they were there and sold out immediately, according to this post: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=46303233&postcount=528

However, I had been checking nonstop since 8am, stopped for one hour for lunch, saw them again and got the above message. :(:(

  16. When you try to add it to your cart, it will say no tickets left. I checked every day and got it 59 days before cruise. Now it's sold out again.

For me it doesn't show up AT ALL. I will go to my port's excursion and it says 0 - 0 results. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
