  1. I have celiac disease and recently got off the Valiant Lady. Here is my review and photos of the gluten free food I ate!

I overall thought Virgin had a wide array of tasty gluten free food. I was able to eat something at every venue and didn't have to pre-order which was nice. Virgin has much greater selection of gluten free desserts than other cruise lines. Most waiters were allergy conscious and knowledgeable about gluten or asked a Chef who was. I only had one waiter (in The Test Kitchen) who seemed to have no idea what gluten was. The only time I felt sick on board was after eating a breakfast toast in the gally, but my symptoms were minor and I may have just been hung over...

    The Galley: Breakfast

Gluten free breakfast options in the Galley included eggs, bacon, toasts, bagels, fruit, ramen etc.

I mostly ate the made to order omelets which were delicious. The sandwich place can also do any toast/sandwich gluten free. The gluten free bread on board is actually pretty tasty and has an nutty taste/ texture. The breakfast hashbrowns are made in a shared fryer and aren't safe unfortunately.

The taco place is open for breakfast but the burritos are made from flour and are NOT gluten free. One day they had a bean breakfast taco that was gluten free and they opened a new grill to cook it for me to avoid cross contamination.

I didn't inquire about whether the breakfast sausage was gluten free or if there were any gluten free pancakes etc available, but it's possible those might be options.

Made to order omelet with bacon.

    Nutella Banana Toast

    The Galley: Lunch

I think every place in the galley can do a gluten free options, but this is what I ate.

     447862216_478320967929151_3959320398486844026_n.thumb.jpg.8506d56020ebd4dc779072dd32d4d6bf.jpg

Thai Curry Ramen - Excellent. All the broths are gluten free but you have ask them to substitute rice noodles.

    441639709_1183668609736306_6900536612292979467_n.thumb.jpg.cea811b80609b718d0a7ee1413a985c6.jpg

Pork and Grilled Fish Tacos - Decent but not amazing. At lunch the taco place just does corn tortilla tacos which lowers the cross contamination risk.

    The Galley Desserts

The dessert place in galley lists the allergens of each dish. There were the same five gluten free desserts each day. I don't remember their names but they were delicious. The pistachio macaron is the standout.

    Extra Virgin

The only gluten free pasta option was penne BUT they could make any of the sauces gluten free. The pasta was cooked in a separate pot of water. There were likely gluten free mains available but I opted to eat three half potions of pasta rather than a main!

Caesar Salad with breadcrumbs removed - delicious

    442002497_1919671315226025_401665389368641002_n.thumb.jpg.ff1e595904176598e890db57648cb747.jpg

Carbona, Bolognaise, and Truffle Spinach pasta. All delicious but the Carbona was the standout.

Charcuterie with gluten free bread - Tasty

Chestnut - Castagnaccio - I didn't like this. The texture was weird and grainy.

    Razzle Dazzle Brunch:

Gluten Free Banana Muffin - Surprisingly delicious

    441909987_317960648026951_6731448334325216231_n.thumb.jpg.7a7717095fd0f624d405a7e83482a765.jpg

Goat Cheese, Mushroom, and Potato Frittata - Incredible. One of the best things I ate on Board.

    436544308_519800780630481_9144507607018833784_n.thumb.jpg.2d4ed695686b9bd76eb22fa63bb13d9d.jpg

Bacon - I don't know what they did to this bacon but it was incredible.

    Razzle Dazzle Dinner:

    440972006_1509680296287721_9046938569143498667_n.thumb.jpg.738b86967f4908cffe9f1650f0a15814.jpg

Pork Belly and King Trumpet Carpaccio - both tasty

    441002806_3673643506229605_2525991078347564179_n.thumb.jpg.0339bc35c26aacd45dc4c90fa29a34b4.jpg

Short Rib Pastrami - Razzle Dazzle has no gluten free mains listed on the menu and the waiter told me this was the only thing that could be modified to be gluten free. I was initially disappointed to have no other options BUT this ended up being exceptional. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful. The original side to the dish has gluten so they brought me this potato carrot plate which was uninspiring.

    Creme Brule - Great

    Pink Agave

Basically entire menu is naturally gluten free.

    441480684_482659197620498_8178709697189485746_n.thumb.jpg.74939e4033bbbb0d9545299edc884c92.jpg

Guac, Street Corn, and some kind of mixed nuts - all great

    441537771_2158919794476924_5276295491643900165_n.thumb.jpg.1796f189bcc500ae3bc5da3fe340496f.jpg

Shrimp - Decent but the Dock House makes better shrimp

    441579481_1185721175772295_5033457911695112420_n.thumb.jpg.a0f1245c561cb50fba7ecfccc62234d8.jpg

Chicken Enchiladas - Kinda dry and needed more flavor

    441305820_1176562750032004_4948100985273690785_n.thumb.jpg.e57bc284cc823ea0caabec652aa43f0e.jpg

    Pork - tasty

    The Wake - Brunch

The eggs benedicts can be made on gluten free bread!

    441956350_439465212212884_8310519192994476224_n.thumb.jpg.b93a1e331858c1a4b95e9d6b84fb0629.jpg

    The Wake - Dinner

Basically all the mains are or can be gluten free.

    441927176_1734105073789133_5537105510975602256_n.thumb.jpg.b11bc330730ffecd50d02b957eea9f38.jpg

Wedge Salad - they had to remove something to make this gluten free but I can't remember what. This was delicious.

    441004686_323061150842612_4866829577423364891_n.thumb.jpg.7100e53c6bc425620729ff4b2f1a4f37.jpg

    Polenta Main - Great

    441577537_396257880035519_5957274275694312582_n.thumb.jpg.4c5888558de7bd68a14740f16f3e5e91.jpg

Salmon - Good but I regretted not getting a sauce on the side as it was a bit dry

    436568365_775013017954430_2343855230767143949_n.thumb.jpg.dee2b13eed8e8249f7576339669b5c8b.jpg

Lemon Cheesecake - without the cookie crumble on top this is gluten free. This was one of my favorite desserts on the ship.

    The Test Kitchen

I hated the Test Kitchen. My waiter seemed confused between gluten and dairy and just didn't seen as aware as the waiters in the other restaurants. I also thought the food was mediocre and not the elevated dinning experience advertised.

    441447680_7369164329877684_8913513883679489607_n.thumb.jpg.2cea3f51879520289ab7a8d990d8a5ba.jpg

Mushroom - I actually liked this but received no gluten free bread to go with it.

    445374203_469796775731017_574913073333816617_n.thumb.jpg.6a39d2c25a45a87e5275b3632afe1736.jpg

Peas - This just tasted like peas and was bland.

    441600007_1018680006254869_3649021035953377495_n.thumb.jpg.10e71315055ef447d1c6e3a4d8a79efe.jpg

    Scallops - were tough

    441559652_1890422691431388_581136522909014460_n.thumb.jpg.d215b4da4fe2ce8b4b5a29bafde5c64f.jpg

    Beef - just ok

    441378197_757265826486510_1693849343138177685_n.thumb.jpg.0eddb08da246f001ef0b777b29856003.jpg

Potato - Tasty although my waiter brought me this, removed it, and then brought it back. I'm not sure why. I didn't feel sick after this meal though so I assume it was gluten free.

    445382847_1124738375426676_1624760035807073051_n.thumb.jpg.82ecb2521335cec137570c8e880fd0a3.jpg

I was initially brought this instead of the blue cheese because my waiter said the blue cheese had dairy. After reminding my waiter I could eat dairy I was brought the blue cheese dish.

    441484722_1038972014466609_6033269684270903836_n.thumb.jpg.58958611942c06b330c5a9aabc6e8e3b.jpg

Blue Cheese - Decent. Actually not that blue cheesy though.

    441527932_1926588454509987_4705496791247040046_n.thumb.jpg.e1523ef87609cc41ec0b9c8d222f80cc.jpg

This was the gluten free alternative dessert. I believe it was coconut based. It was just ok.

    The Dock House

I was obsessed with the dock house and thought it made some of the best food on the ship. They were able to modify everything I asked for to be gluten free. I think it was all basically gluten free to start with and just needed to have the bread removed. The shrimp and polenta were my favorite things on board.

    441575500_1363752294303803_2568075342206279390_n.thumb.jpg.950eb151e0f0629a1a844cb2507fdd5f.jpg

    The Social Club:

The Social Club had lots of gluten free desserts including flavored marshmallows, fudge, and some kind of nut brittle. They also have popcorn. Unfortunately this is the only photo I took.

    440961966_3733500133553796_3658757820594675687_n.thumb.jpg.516ccb26fb1ec4db57a4ba31cddde138.jpg

    The Pizza Place:

Gluten free pizza was available but was pretty terrible. I still ate an entire pizza drunk at 2:00a.m. though... and it was nice to have an option. Only the tomato sauce is gluten free, the white sauce is not.

    441556788_1164772288192096_1281358781249028618_n.thumb.jpg.6805e5ec432f206d3bba036763c48919.jpg

    Stray Thoughts:

    - the coffee shop had gluten free muffins and chocolate chip cookies on a separate plate. I had a chocolate muffin one day and it was great

    - the ice cream shop clearly lists allergens but had a limited number of gluten free options

    - most bars had gluten free Kettle One vodka soda cans

    - the frozen drink mixed used in the bars is gluten free

    Bonus Tip:

If you have time while in Miami go to 'La Leggenda Pizzeria' in South Beach. They have truly the best gluten free pizza I've ever eaten. They also have a separate prep area for gluten free and cook pizza on a tray in the oven to avoid cross contamination.
