I hear what you're saying but they really aren't necessary in NYC-- you can easily do the same thing via Uber for significantly less money. LGA to BCT is about 45 minutes with normal traffic-- as long as you gave yourself conservatively an hour, maybe a little more, you could save yourself a ton of money and have zero risk.

As well intentioned as this might be, also consider that most of the major Midtown sights are much better seen by walking. Traffic is a huge issue in the city core and seeing things from a van will not be the best way to go about it unless he was going to drop you off and pick you up places.

Thank you...we will be doing a lot of walking with my friend and her son. Friend's son will be picking us up and taking us back to the hotel as well as both he and his Mom will be going with us to places we want to see.

I have sailed out of New Jersey and New York with Princess but I can't find anymore cruises sailing from there. Does anyone know of any Princess cruises that I am missing?

  3. Thank you to everyone...we only have one afternoon in NY. A dear friend contacted me to tell me her son volunteered to take us sight seeing. He has a van and my friend will be able to go with us. We are going to book a less expensive hotel near the airport with an airport shuttle to offset the cost of the Princess transfers and to get us back to the airport on the 14th to get the transfer to the port. We know the Princess transfer is expensive but if any traffic problems should appear we know the ship will not leave without the transfer people. (had it happen) I wish we had more time in NY but both my husband and son were not able to take more time off. Again thank all of you so much.

Are you planning to tour NYC, specifically Manhattan?

It will depend on what you end up doing in terms of a hotel-- if you stay in Manhattan it will be easier and less time consuming to just head to the pier on your own. If you stay near the airport then it might make sense.

Princess sails from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal which is neither near LaGuardia nor is it right by the main tourist sites in Manhattan. So you'll have to decide where you're going to stay. The three options being by the airport (LaGuardia is not a super great area to stay in and the airport hotels there are generally older and not the best), in Manhattan to tour (which will be more expensive but allow you to potentially walk to major sights/restaurants/bars etc), or by Brooklyn which offers sort of the middle here-- less expensive than Manhattan but a nicer general area than LaGuardia. Im speaking in generalities here-- can provide more detailed options based on feedback on what you actually want to do.

It's the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal and its located in Red Hook. Not much to see or do right in Red Hook or immediately adjacent to the terminal.

I will talk with my son and DIL and see what they want to do....where they want to stay....thanks for the brief description of the areas...very helpful. My vote will be for Manhattan. Again thanks and I will get back with you when I talk to my son.

  6. Hi y'all!  I am trying to get some info about NY and can't find the answers to my questions using the search feature. So I will just ask here😇 We are flying into LaGuardia a day early, Friday. We are trying to decided on whether to buy Princess round trip transfers..getting a hotel near the airport with free airport shuttle and go back to the airport the next day (we do that in Seattle) or get a hotel near the port (although I don't know what the name of the port is yet) and take a taxi to the port and just get the Princess transfer to get back to the airport after the cruise. Any suggestions will be sincerely appreciated. None of my group of 4 have been to NY. Thanks in advance!

  7. Hi to all. We booked a cruise for this fall, New England and Canada on Princess. We have never been in that part of the USA. We are flying into LaGuardia a day early. We are trying to decide if we should buy Princess round trip transfers or just one way on departure day? So we are trying to figure out whether to get a hotel near the airport with complimentary shuttle service for the airport and back, Or get a hotel nearer the port? Still don't know the name of the port. Any recommendations/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

We booked a forward facing cabin for our Alaska cruise.  Although it states on Princess website that the balcony can only be used in port, our Princess Vacation Planner says it it usable at all times. Has anyone had any experience with whether the balcony is usable at all times or not?  Thanks

We had a lovely forward cabin in the Regal on the Lido deck. You may use the balcony at any time. However, you need to keep the drapes closed at night to prevent light interfering with the Bridge. Otherwise, enjoy your balcony, even at night as long as your lights are completely turned off.

Thank all of u for your replies...we didn't get to use the balcony as much as we would have liked to, however it was worth every drop of rain (we had a lot but didn't allow it to deter us at all) going thru glacier bay was nothing less TO,. EVERY TIME WE WERE ON THE BALCONY WE SAW SOMETHING THAT TOOK OUR BREATH AWAY. We will book a forward facing balcony every chance we get. Although the waters was rough several time none of us got sea sick and the motion lulled us to sleep every night. We are on our way to Vancouver right now.

@ImperialLady If you are trying to book by clicking on “explore dining options” that does not work until you are on board. Instead choose “view or book individual reservations” choose the day you want then add reservation and follow the prompts.

thanks...this worked EXCEPT that I couldn't make reservations for Catch by Rudi..I could for Harmony and/or Crown Grill...by not Catch. So I messaged\my Princess vacation planner...she checked and then sent me this message.....

    ⬇️
The Catch is not booked in advance at this time. You’ll need to check once you board. They’ll have restaurant sign right near where you board. So I guess we will have to wait.

I *never* try to book dining of ANY type on the app...I always use the web version on a desktop.  In my opinion...it is much easier to see what you're doing and to see much more of the week's schedule.  Plus, I can do screenshots (to hardcopy) of whatever I've paid for.  I don't know if it will solve your particular issue...it's always possible that the cruise data is screwed up by our friends in Princess IT.

    thank I will try that.

  11. Morning all! We are sailing on the Majestic on  9/9/2023 after a 3 day land portion. Has anyone been able to book speciality restaurants for this cruise or any cruises close to this date. Every time I check on the app it states to check back closer to my journey date. If you have been able to book TheCatch please tell me how you did it!  TIA!

Have been wiping airplane seats, screens, remotes, arm rests for years.  One person laughed at me, then covid came along.  I do the same in the cabin, including the bathroom.  On a long cruise tend to repeat every 5 days or so.

Ditto....I also take travel size lysol spray and spray the seat...especially the area my head hits (I am a shortie)...why my cousin caught ring worm from a plane seat!😟.

The idea that Princess thinks it is reasonable to replace the coffee package - that cost about $35 for a 7 day cruise - with a package that costs $30 per day is very disappointing.

this is so disappointing...we loved the coffee package...this one is far too expensive for people who just want good coffee.

Use Port Valet. Once you set your luggage outside your cabin door the night before disembarkation, it will be at your destination airport when you arrive.  If you have carryon luggage you want to store for the day, there is luggage storage near Pike Place Market at the Purple Store.  The Edgewater Hotel has luggage storage as well next door to the cruise terminal.

I agree with using Port Valet...we did last year and what a stress free procedure.
