My wife, mother-in-law and I attended Chef’s Table last week on the Breeze.  There were 14 in the room with nine of the guests under the age of 36.   They were the rudest and loudest guests that I have ever seen at a dining experience.  One even said, I wish he (the chef) would just serve the food without the monologue.   They talked over the chef and I really felt bad for him as he explained the course.  My suggestion would be, when possible to place the younger guests together and the more mature guests together.  Then they could take all the selfies and talk to each other as much as they wish.

I did the Chef's Table a week and a half ago on the Elation with my mother (I'm one of the youngins you speak of) and the problem for our dining were all the middle aged couples who scrunched up their noses, refused to eat, and made rude comments about the food. So it's not an age thing, it's a manners thing. If you were raised properly you know how to behave in a situation like this. I'm happy to say I was and thoroughly enjoyed my meal even if I was mostly surrounding by rude people (save for the elderly couple next to us who were a delight).

I think a lot of people don't understand what a tasting menu is and see a fancy "exclusive" option for not a whole lot of money (at least not compared to the tasting menus at the restaurants in the city I live) and decide to go for it not knowing what to expect.

Unfortunately when dealing with members of the public you just never know what you're going to get.

Don't mean to hijack this post BUT, so many here received upgrade offers.  Just curious, how many Carnival sailings have you sailed?  Just wondering if it's something typically reserved for repeat, loyal guests.  October cruise will only be our second Carnival cruise.  Happy with our extended balcony, but who wouldn't love an upgrade fairy offer for a suite?

This is my first Carnival Cruise and I was offered an upgrade.

My mom who has cruised 5 times (twice on Carnival, twice on RC, and once on Norwegian) has been offered an upgrade on every one (she hasn't always taken it, but has been offered).

Not sure there's any real rhyme or reason to it or who gets offered it, unless they just need the particular cabin you're already booked in.

I've never gotten an upgrade offer. I am sailing solo in my cabin. My son and DIL are in their own. I paid $504 for an inside porthole. I got an offer for an increase of $190 for a balcony. I usually cruise in a balcony because I'm a snob 🙂 but I didn't book it this time since I was solo. I'm just not sure if that would be a good price. 5 days on Elation.

That's a good price! I called a week and a half ago about upgrading on my own from an ocean view to a balcony and it was going to be almost $700 more. But I got hit with the upgrade fairy yesterday and got a balcony for $130 more and jumped on it!

You should book it and book it fast. Those upgrade offers go quickly and you don't want to miss out so I'd make it happen ASAP.

I was unsure of where to look for these offers.  It’s the “to do list?”  About how far ahead of your cruise do you see these offers?  Thanks.

It'll be at the top of your to-do list when you log into your cruise manager! I sail out on Saturday and had an offer to upgrade from my ocean view room to one with a balcony last night for $130 more and I jumped on it!

You should try to check periodically if you can, I have my cruise manager open on a tab on my computer and would check several times throughout the day hoping I'd get an offer and knowing that they can go fast.

I spoke with a rep this week and was told it had to be reserved via phone.

I spoke to one today and they told me it can't be reserved via phone but online. But did confirm the Chef's Table is available on my cruise and there is some glitch in my account because I can't see or book any specialty dining, so they're putting in a ticket and hopefully it'll be fixed by my sailing date, if not I'll just cross my fingers and hope there are still slots available when I board.

So all that is to say if anyone else is having issues it's likely a glitch in their system!

Anyone who books a first cruise on a line that has never cruised before on a line w one old ship that they are updating and on a line that is using the name of an admittedly excellent artist to get passengers has to be a bit of an optimist.

    DON

I am a bit of an optimist! Thanks, that was helpful!

I don't have personal experience, but I have heard lately that it isn't showing up for multiple sailings and I do wonder if it's a glitch.

Thank you! That's helpful to know. I've noticed things online overall have been on the glitchier side, so I may just need to wait on a hold to get it resolved.

If it's not listed what makes you believe that it's hidden and can book it?

It was what I was told with one customer service representative I talked to before she transferred me to the place I could purchase plans and was put on a neverending hold.

But yes, maybe it isn't available to be booked for this cruise for some reason.

  9. Hi everyone!

I'm sailing on Elation May 7th with my mom and wanted to book the Chef's Table for one of the nights and am having a real challenge. I don't have the option in my cruise manager. When I go to speciality dining online I get zero results. I tried calling customer service, but after an hour long hold I gave up.

Has anyone else had any issues? Or is my best bet either sitting through a customer service call again? I know I could book once I'm onboard but was a little nervous about it filling up, but maybe that isn't an issue with this.

    Thanks for your help!

Good luck trying to get a refund out of them. If possible, you should rebook a new date and get the freebies they're offering (although I'm not clear what is free if you've already paid.)

I plan to sail with them later this year but not until they've rebranded and are actually sailing again.

They're offering a free cabin and all the money already paid to go to onboard credit, which I guess is nice but I certainly don't need $600+ in onboard credit for a two night cruise!

Still waiting on my refund so will be calling them again today!

I don't think that its a scam. Jimmy Buffett wouldn't put his name behind a product that's not legit.

That's fair! I'm just frustrated after MULTIPLE calls and emails to their customer service I keep getting the runaround. First told "customer service isn't working today" and then on a later call "oh this is customer service but the department that issues refunds isn't in today." You would think after sending an email about cruises being canceled you'd have your customer service team ready to go to process rebookings and refunds that day. Hoping I can get some satisfaction soon. It just leaves a sour taste in my mouth, especially as a fan of all things Jimmy Buffett (was raised a fan by two hardcore Parrotheads!).

And I already have a replacement cruise booked for the same time period with a known entity, so will definitely be enjoying that cruise!

I was on the May 2 sailing. Customer Service was open. I confirmed with a rep that i can get a refund or reshedule by 12/22 and receive a cabin at no charge. Also the 100 dollar deposit i put down will be converted to onboard credit. Am supposed to get a call so we can reschedule. I will wait and see how it goes. I have had not problems with Buffet's other ventures, so i am hopeful that things will work out. We will see.

Oh this is helpful! When I called this morning they told me Customer Service wasn't open. I will try again now. We're huge Parrotheads, who have loved his other ventures, so had hopes for this one, but for now I just want my money back and will wait to hear some firsthand takes of how it all is before booking again.

    Thanks for your response!

  13. Did anyone else get an email saying that their cruise was cancelled and the new inaugural cruise date is now May 14th? I was scheduled to cruise on May 8th with my mom (a huge parrothead) and got an email that everything was pushed back due to "supply chain issues" this morning. When I called customer service for a refund I was told customer service wasn't working today and they'd reach out to me Monday. Not two hours later I got an email from Margaritaville at Sea saying they were so excited to cruise with me on May 8th and they attached my confirmation and a luggage tag?

Honestly at this point I just want my money back and had a bad feeling about the cruise when I called this past Monday to get some information on beverage packages and was told once again that customer service wasn't working that day. Is this like some sort of scam or do they just truly not have their stuff together? Also if anyone has any thoughts on how to get a refund because that seems like it's not going to be an easy process, would appreciate it!
