We just got off the Crown on Saturday.  We were really disappointed.  We had been to Alaska before so we know what a good experience it can be.  This cruise was not a good experience.  We missed one port completely and got into others too late to do anything.  We completely skipped Glacier Bay.  The weather was not great, but because of the engine problems, we could not stick around until the weather cleared, or we would be too late at the next port.  We felt really bad for the people who had saved up for an Alaska cruise and were looking forward to it.  We feel that Princess should have canceled all cruises on the Crown and rebooked passengers on a different ship.  Besides missing ports, there was horrible shaking at the back of the ship which made dining uncomfortable if you are seated in the back area.  There was also a sewage smell around midship on the ninth level.  These are all problems that are well known to Princess, but they have continued to book cruises on this ship.  We have no plans to cruise with Princess again.  We are very disappointed in their lack of integrity.

Just curious on which port did you miss and what times did you get into the other ports?
how on earth can a ship miss glacier bay ? It’s a whole day’s worth of sailing. What did you do instead?

im sorry to hear about your experience.

Ruby Princess, coming back to Galveston this winter.

We booked all 10 cabins with the $1 deposit promo, right before midnight expiration...

Look at aft deck 8, cabins e630,e631,e632,e633,e701,e702,e703,e704.

they are all labeled and priced at interior/obstructed ocean views but there is no obstruction. You’re in between the life boats.

I picked e633 on crown (same layout as ruby) and it was an ocean view at an interior/obs ov price.

No Skagway for you!  We are on the Majestic right now in Hains. We got word yesterday morning of the rockslide and the change of plans. Had to call Chilcoot tours to cancel. She said there is a big hole in the dock.  We are disappointed. However we are in Alaska on a bright sunny day and are going to the wildlife preserve. We are just grateful to be here and have had wonderful weather.

This is probably the best reason to buy the internet package.  When I was on the crown, I was dead to the outside world.  Luckily I had cell service when in port or else I would have missed one of my excursion as they needed to call me that day.

I’m on discovery right now. We are going to icy point from 6 to 6 I believe. I thought we were going to go to Haines since the Haines video on the tv was showing up but they later added the one for icy as well. A lot of people are annoyed. Selfishly I was hoping to go to Haines or icy since I’ve never been.

Im eating dinner right now in the mdr. Had sockeye salmon and vegan meatballs. Everything I’ve had in the mdr has been excellent. The buffet is standard buffet. Revive there for me has been been terrible for when I’ve wanted bottle water or booze. They have taken wayyyyyy too long to bring them or forgot about me.

So Skagway is canceled for your sailing?

I did the survey and it wasn't good. I logged into my account but it doesn't show up yet, just the 20%, but the email said it may take up to 2 weeks. Maybe if you keep checking your accounts it will show up for both of you. I don't see how you both couldn't get it since you were traveling together.

We had two different bookings (two different rooms) for my family.  I’ll check back later but it doesn’t matter much. My hubby is insistent that we’re not cruising next year so the fcc is useless. I may ask if it can be extended an extra year but again, that may not matter if we’re one and done with princess.

people may be praising the company for doing this, but I think it’s too late. They should have been upfront with everyone who books crown. Give a warning about the engine issues.  Cut the price or give the refund prior to the sailing. Many people do not cruise often so fcc is useless.

This just makes people have to stay with a company that didn’t give them good service. If they gave the May 28sailing the same extra $100 obc as every other sailing, I may have a more positive view. But since we’re out that extra money, we’re not going back to them.

I would take that 50% FCC over the $100 OBC.  I wonder if that was given to everyone on your sailing, or was that for 'each guest' on your booking since you provided feecback.

    i won't comment on your username....go blue 🙂

i would have liked the obc while i was on the cruise, like every other sailing got...other sailings also got the 50% OBC...so again, the may 28th is left without the extra $100 obc that everyone else got.

it does depend on the cruiser...if you didn't plan on cruising next year, FCC is useless.  i wish they extend the FCC for two years....that gives people time to do another cruise.  i'm one of those that like to have variety in my vacations each year.

I got the same email last night, I wasn't going back to Princess either; but now will at least consider looking, I don't think I'll go on more than than just the one though. I wonder if everyone is getting this offer? I was on the May 21 sailing.

Did you fill out the survey? My husband’s booking hasn’t gotten the email yet. He said he filed it out.  I wonder if it depends on how bad the survey was?

Amazing what they get away with. Seems like they continue to sell a product they know they will not deliver,  and then give you essentially a coupon to make up for it.

Yup.  A lot people on the board has said they are one and done. We have said that.  Strangely, some were happy with the fcc and will use it since they do a lot of cruises.

i guess it depends on the type of cruiser you are.

  9. I just got an email from princess based on my survey from the May 28th sailing:

As a gesture of concern for your experience and gratitude for your understanding, each guest will receive a Future Cruise Credit equivalent to 50% of the cruise fare paid on this voyage. The credit may be applied to any future Princess cruise booked by January 1, 2023 and sailing by January 1, 2024,

unfortunately, we were not planning to do a cruise next year so fcc is useless to us.

I wish they gave us an extra $100 obc like they did with the other sailings.

    oh well.

For what it's worth, when I attended the Captain's Most Traveled Luncheon, someone at our table asked Captain Ruggero about the propulsion problems.  Whether truth or Princess propaganda, the Captain said it was ongoing routine maintenance and should be finished by August.  Make of this what you will....

I vote for propaganda as one of the engine is ongoing maintenance but all of the letters they sent to the passengers talked about a second engine.  Plus, if it was ongoing maintenance, you wouldn't be running into constant schedule changes every week.  one week you have the ship getting to juneau at 4pm instead of 530pm.  another week it gets there at 530 while the passengers are told 4pm. or icy straits is on the schedule and last minute (every week??) it's dropped.  For the captain to say all of this is due ongoing maintenance?  i don't think so. ongoing maintenance should not cause this much headache.

My partner and I have been to Alaska before - in 2019. We did a 10 day on the Grand and fell in love with Alaska - but that cruise did not go to Glacier Bay. We were in Skagway (did the train), Juneau (whale watch and hike), Ketchikan (rainforest hike) and Victoria (explored the city) and scenic cruised Tracy Arm.

But we kept hearing about how wonderful Glacier Bay is - that is the entire reason we booked this current cruise (August 20).

So - for people like me, who have been to Alaska already but not Glacier Bay, would you stick with the Crown knowing that our ports will be cut dramatically but still get to see Glacier Bay?

If you already been to the ports and wanted this next cruise to be different, then I would say stick with gb.  An option is to look at a different cruise line that goes to gb if you’re worried about the speed of crown?

first time to gb at the end of May and I loved it, even tho I knew the ports were short.

it is a personal preference and priority. My hubby’s priority was gb “before it melts” so we stuck it it on crown.

if you go on discovery, it’s to a different glacier and you see it only for a few hours (5-9am) so you have to decide if that’s worth the switch.

Was the noise just as you were leaving the dock, or the whole time?

When I was at that dining room, the vibration and noise was too much for us so we only ate at the da Vinci room afterwards.  The noise was also noticeable in the club fusion room.

Curious about the weather. Is it worth it to pack any tshirts/shorts? Or is it really not warm enough for that?

Depends on when you sailing is. Just look at the weather a day before you get to Seattle. If you’re going next sat, it looks like alaska will be in the 70s. That’s shorts weather.

On the bus going to the ship

I think it pays to be nice to airline workers. Even in that craziness, I have to say they were all professionals. Luggage was there waiting for us off the plane. Looking forward to changing out of these clothes we have been wearing for 2 days.

should have checked the app but it all worked out….sorta

Hope you made it on the ship

I have gotten to FLL at 8:30am without any trouble. But you're relying on everything going smoothly.

Suggest booking two flights and cancelling the one you don't use - cancellation policies are great these days!

Southwest will not let you book two flights of the same schedule in the same day.  They will automatically cancel one of them (you don't get to choose).  I did that once (booked two different times in the same day going from home to seattle.  The following day, SWA canceled my preferred flight so i had to re-book.

it's in the fine print of the confirmation email:

Prohibition on Multiple/Conflicting Reservations: to promote seat availability for our Customers, Southwest prohibits multiple reservations for the same Passenger departing from the same city on the same date, or any multiple reservations containing conflicting or overlapping itineraries (such as departures for the same Customer from multiple cities at the same time). Furthermore, without advance notice to the Passenger or purchaser, Southwest may cancel such reservations

    Just got the result NEGATIVE

can breathe a little easier now, but still 9 days to go

Thanks to all for your input

wear mask and social distance the rest of the time.  AND I would highly recommend that you also wear masks and social distance while you’re on the cruise.  It may be an inconvenience but it’s better than getting Covid during the cruise. I didn’t mask up and I tested positive after I got home. I then gave it to my son.

You were on the first cruise right? May 7th? From what I remember you had a worst cruise than us on May 21st; but, we were given a 20% FCC and $300 per person which I don't think you got. I don't think we got enough, but the other cruises should've at least gotten that. I already booked my next 2 cruises and I can tell you they're not on Princess, I don't care about their future cruise credit or their over priced cruises.

I still don’t get how the May 21 people got fcc and extra obc when the following sailing of the 28th (which I was on) had the same issues but got nothing extra.  They made last minute changes (even sent us a letter a day before) but never offered us any other compensation.

like I said before, what gives with the inconsistencies?

is there anything we can do to get something back like the other sailing dates? I’ve asked the people on the ship and they said they couldn’t do anything. Who can we ask that can do something?

btw, princess is really messing with people’s heads.  Earlier this week for the June 18th sailing, they had Juneau as being 430. I guess they thought if the June 11 made it at that time, they can update the itinerary.  Lookie now…the 18th schedule was updated to 4pm for Juneau.

    what????

Just got off the Crown..CANCEL….what a disaster…at one point we weren’t moving at all. Missed and late arrivals in port…total waste of money on a dream vacation..more like a nightmare.

Strange, no thread from the June 4th sailing.  What happened on that sailing that was different than my postings about the May 28?

we stopped for about 30 mins in glacier bay.  Got to Juneau at 530 (got notice of this and no icy point two days before embarkment). Got to Victoria at 7.

I've had the same thoughts. Although others did pass us on the 28th departure not sure what the deal is.

My guess is it has something to do with getting up to speed. They seem to bypass the inside passage for a more straight line out to sea route. Maybe with the propulsion issue they can eventually get up to a decent speed but it forces a simplified route. So a stop in ISP would take the wind out of their sails so to speak putting Victoria in jeopardy.

Not sure this makes sense. However I've been on a few cruises and it also seemed like docking took longer than I recall. Although we were also anxious to get ashore due to the reduced time so maybe just my imagination!

I was on the 28th.  Regardless of what the speed should be, it is not normal to cut Juneau’s port time from 12:30 originally to 230pm to 530pm.  Nor is it normal to cut out an entire port city or Ketchikan or icy point.

How can anyone say losing 5 hrs from Juneau is normal?  The engine even went out for 30 mins during the glacier bay.

sorry, but what you have seen from crown princess since the first May 7 is unacceptable. Look up previous chatters and you’ll see that princess has just strung the passengers along.

First Ketchikan was dropped bc of the propulsion issue.

Icy Strait Point was added evening of Glacier Bay.

    Yesterday, ISP was dropped.

We plan to stick with the original plan to cruise on Crown June 11th but are disappointed.

The one 'port' I wanted was Glacier Bay and it remains.  Lots of scenic cruising on this cruise...

They dropped icy point a couple of weeks ago and updated the future sailings accordingly.  If you look at the sailings, the picture does show icy point, but the text version which has the excursions links never had icy point as a stop. Princess just forgot to update the pic.

I wouldn’t trust what the princess reps tell you.  They will forever tell you everything is ok. You have to go with what is the trend of what current passengers are saying on the boards.

We sail 8/6 and so far the itinerary has not been changed.  I e-mailed my PVP today asking if they had any information or updates and this all  I got back:

If you want to switch  to a different ship let me know.

As with other peoples comments, princess reps will not have any good info for you. My excursion was still active up to the day of embarkment according to the rep…even tho previous passengers have said the excursions will be canceled due to the time constraints.  I wouldn’t believe anything they say as they will forever keep an optimistic view, even tho everyone else knows differently.

I kept this sailing due to glacier bay.  Hard to say if being on land is more of a priority than glacier bay. It’s comes down to being a personal preference. Also, if you can afford to switch.
