We've done 1-Trans-Atlantic post-pandemic on Celebrity and 2 Alaska cruises on HAL post-pandemic. The lines are very similar.

We pick by the ports for a particular cruise.

Not picky cruisers, so for us the 2 main differences are

On Celebrity free room service is limited to continental breakfast. A charge for everthing else.

On HAL, at least in Jiuly, al;l room service, with a couple of exceptions was without additional charge.

On Celebrity, at least back in April, you could bring on 2 bottles of wine each in drink in your room at no charge.

On HAL, every bottle is hit with a $20 fee.  As a wine lover I find most wine by-the-glass omn both lines to be inferior and overpriced, so I likie HAL for that.

I agree Celebrity has better entertainment options.

Think food is comparable on either line. I do like HAL's Dive-In (great fries), but felt Celebrity has better pizza.

In the end the ports and timing will make the choice between HAL and Celebrity.

What do you mean that every bottle of wine has a corkage fee? Even if you open and drink it in your room?

  2. We have been to St Thomas many times however this trip we will have my 95 year old mother with us. She gets around well (she goes to the gym 4x per week, lives alone and drives), however we will have a wheelchair for longer walks. We are looking for something other than beach, sailing or shopping. Any ideas? We will be on the Holland America Rotterdam which I believe will be using Crown Bay.

Do they put mayonnaise on the fish sandwiches in Bermuda?  I'm guessing yes, but it's helpful to know for a mayo-hater like me.

At Art Mel's they asked what we wanted on it. We got it with tartar sauce, coleslaw and hot sauce on their cinnamon raisin bread. A person after us got it with lettuce, tomato and fried onions on wheat bread. You can really have it however you would like.

Art Mel’s hands down … absolutely worth the walk/taxi for us.  Just happen to be on our way down to Bermuda now on Norwegian Joy arriving tomorrow … and will hit this up for sure 👍

I agree, Art Mels is worth it. It really isn't a bad walk...only about half an hour and lots to see on the way.

  5. We just got home from Bermuda today. We walked to Art Mels from the ferry pier in Hamilton and it took about an half an hour. You obviously could get a taxi, but we enjoy walking. There isn't anywhere to sit and eat at Art Mel's, so we walked down the street to Pembroke playground and ate at a picnic table in the park. We have had his fish sandwich before, and I think it is definitely the best one in Bermuda! It is HUGE, so we got one to split, done the traditional way on cinnamon raisin bread with coleslaw and hot sauce. It was delicious!

celebrity has Fre wine, but I don’t know if they have it by the glass, you might have to get the whole bottle and save it.

We had Fre wine by the glass on The Summit. We went to the Rendevous lounge and talked with the bar manager. She made sure that it was available there every night for us. NA beer was available in most bars and they would make mocktails at almost any bar. We liked the NA mojitos

When you get to Belam, be sure to walk to Pasteis de Belem and enjoy a few of their famous pastries with your favorite beverage.   I still dream about those sweet things.

    Hank

Thank you Hank, we will definitely do that! I used to own a bakery and I do love a good pastry 🙂

The number of days depends on your interests.  A couple of days in Lisbon are nice and also some time in Sintra

I have been doing some research and I think we will spend 3 days in Lisbon.

Day one when we get off the ship I think we will do Rick Steves walking tour through the downtown neighborhoods of Alfama, Baixa, Bairro Alto/Chiado.

    Day 2 Sintra

    Day 3 Trolley to Belem

We like to walk and explore and take our time. I think this schedule will allow this. Please let me know if anyone has suggestions.

  9. We will be debarking the Celebrity Infinity on October 30th in Lisbon, then get on the Celebrity Apex on November 5th in Barcelona. I am trying to figure out how we should split those 6 days. A half a day will  be taken up by time at the airport and flying between the cities, so we basically have 5 and a half days. We will be back in Barcelona next April for another TA, so we will have more time in Barcelona then. How many days should we allow for Lisbon?

Yes.   They usually have O'Doules, Heineken Zero and sometime Clausthaler

They also have many mocktails or just ask and they will make you a virgin just about anything.

Finally they have Sutter Hill Fre Red, White, Rose and Sparkling alcohol free wine

Thank you! Glad to know this ahead of time! We board next Sunday, and are going to go alcohol free for this trip even though we have the classic package
