It depends on your preference for group size on any given tour.

Some ship's tours are small group because of the nature of the tour and associated cost.

Most ship's tours vary between 25 and 50 people (although buses were not being filled when cruising recommenced to allow social distancing - not sure now).

Often tour prices are less by around US$10 when booked before the cruise. If the price goes down after boarding, you may be able to cancel and re-book.

If you want to be on the same bus as others on the cruise, there is no need to wait to book, but make sure you all get the same bus sticker prior to leaving the ship!

If there was a particular ship's tour I wanted to do, I would most definitely book it as soon as possible after booking the cruise.

If your preference is to join a few others, most Roll Calls have someone arranging small group tours.

    I have done both.

A potential disadvantage of a larger group is that often people fail to register the word "strenuous" in the description and the tour will be paced to the slowest mover, sometimes resulting in shortened time at a site, or even missing one altogether.

A smaller group will often see more.

    Enjoy your explorations!

    Thank You, good information

We would welcome you tips as we have never set foot on a cruise before and have booked the same trip from Dubia to Singapore, shaz and mike UK late 50's couple

This is also our first Azamara cruise, but we've been on more than a couple dozen cruises previously.  Perhaps the most obvious benefit of cruising is that you unpack and re-pack only once.  Being onboard is a bit like going to a resort where everything is provided - but the venue keeps changing.  On the best cruise lines the food, the entertainment, the accommodations, the service, the lectures, the games, the new friendships....  all are fantastic.  Did I mention the sea air or the sense of exploration?  Anyway, we've been told by friends that Azamara "fills the bill," and we can't wait to find out if they are right.
Gary Bembridge's YouTube Channel Tips for Travelers is excellent.   Here are a few examples:

We have just booked for this cruise.  It will be our 3rd with Azamara.   We are Chris and Irene from the North of England.  We usually try to book private tours and would be interested in joining others

Yes very interested in joining others as this is our very first cruise 🙂 sharon and mike uk
