NCL was amazing with my gluten intolerance on two sailings. I have booked the Bliss for Alaska in 2025

whatever line you choose, be sure to contact their special needs department in advance so they are aware of your sisters celiac. This is really important.  She should be assigned a dietary coordinator ( this varies by ship). Advance planning is key here.  Also, be vigilant. There are a lot of untrained staff who are unaware of food allergies as @dd57 stated.  Your dietary coordinator will work with her to make sure that she can eat safely.  I had some amazing meals on NCL. The only thing I found lacking was desserts. I only had fruit as a choice.  I’m hoping they have gotten better with that.

My sister has sailed on ncl before so if I go with her we might sail with them bc she knows what she can and can't eat.  I forgot to mention that in my initial post.

I have celiac disease and cruise Princess because of how they accommodate my dietary needs.  On the first day, have your sister talk to the restaurant manager and he/she will walk her through the process in the MDR.  At the buffet, just ask to speak to the chef and get shown what is safe to eat.  Some ships also will have nutritional labels at the buffet as well as a special gluten free section.

The soft serve ice cream is not gluten free, a number of the drink mixes are not either.  The protein powder in the smoothies included in the Princess Plus package is not safe to eat.

Just ask—there will be very knowledgeable staff on board to assist your sister.

I do bring onboard gf granola, crackers and cookies on every cruise.

Thank you for the information I think you have made my decision easier now.

  3. Hi Everyone

I'm starting to plan an Alaskan cruise in June 2024 with my sister for her 25th birthday.  She has celiac and is on a gluten free diet.  I am considering either HAL RCL NCL Carnival or Princess.  I live on the east coast near NYC and want to fly into Seattle to save on the airfare.  What is your suggestion for cruise line keeping in mind that glacier bay would be a plus but doesn't have to be included.  We also are going to want to stay in an inside cabin to save money for excursions.  Thanks in advance.

Finally got everything sorted out with my bookings and my Voyager's Club account so I can see my future bookings. Somehow (I think when I booked my solo cruise for October while onboard), my Voyager's Club account had gotten updated to include my middle name as part of my first name field. That booking showed my middle name on it, so it was the only one I could see. My other two bookings just had my first name in the first name field, so the website didn't think my Voyager's Club matched the name on the bookings and wouldn't let me link them.

I called MSC customer service and they updated the name on my solo cruise to just have my first name, so I couldn't see that booking on my account anymore either. I then had to email Voyager's Club and ask them to update the name on my account to remove my middle name from the first name field. That did the trick and I can now see all three bookings.

Weirdly, though, I don't seem to be able to make final payment on either of the sailings I booked onboard. Both the solo Meraviglia sailing in October and the Divina sailing in February with my husband allow me to go straight to the Web Check-in and give me no options for payment. I suspect I am going to have to call MSC customer service and pay over the phone as those final payment dates approach.

Glad you got that all cleared up and squared away.

No, not planning on doing specialty.  I don't do seafood, teppanyaki is not worth it because of the upcharge and limited choice.  And Butchers Cut is limited as well.  Their policy is the worst compared to the US based cruise lines when it comes to specialties.

The Mexican restaurant Hola! Tacos is very good and it's cheap.  I ate there on the last night of my cruise with Jamie and the rest of our roll call and I had chips and salsa two tacos and a soda for under $8.

I know you asked Jaimie but getting an Uber was a mess because GPS coordinates for the terminal don't direct the cars INSIDE. They have to look for the ship and just drive towards it. lol Also, it seems to take you around a big loop if you miss the entrance.  It took 2 phone calls to my driver and me basically standing in the street to see him and allow him to see me when he did. I did self walk off around 7:30. Uber shows I placed my order at 8:11 once I was outside. It's never taken me that long to get off a ship.

I had received an email from msc with the exact address for the cruise port and i took an Uber to the terminal on April 22 and my uber driver dropped me off right in front.

There were so many negative reports here and on the other social media page about MSC and the Meraviglia that I also questioned my booking in October.  Now after Jamie's blog I feel confident we will have a great cruise.  My only worry now is getting to and back from the port from here in East Brunswick which is in central NJ.  Some Ubers won't go out of state and parking for 11 days is much too expensive.

I was just on the meraviglia as well and I took an Uber to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal from Old Bridge NJ and it cost me about 94 dollars so it may be around the same price for you as well.
