The date of my post was just before Covid arrived so our cruise was moot!
Wish I could have been able to tell you how it went!
Bummer . I know that feeling.
Thanks 😊

Our plan is to either walk (@20 minutes I think) or taxi from the ship to the train station in Le Havre. The average one-way train journey is under an hour. Once in Rouen we might book a walking tour for 15 euro pp. Or take a Segway tour. Or just explore on our own.
If you look into Tours by Locals, there is a private tour offering from Le Havre for a tour of Rouen, but pretty spendy unless you get other roll call members to join you.
My question to you : Did you end up walking to the train?
Can I just purchase tickets when I arrive!

Hi! I am just starting my research for my August cruise.
Have you found anything out yet!

Hi Cathy,
I am wondering as well. I spoke to RCL last night and they told me they don't offer cancellation insurance on my Norwegian Fjord cruise to Canadians. Have you ever heard of this? I have not. We have done cruises from Europe before with no problem with insurance.
My husband and Mom are both over 65. The RCL lady referred me to Manulife.
I am so confused. Lol

An Alaska cruise cannot be compared with Baltic cruise - a Baltic cruise does include cultural cities like Copenhagen, Stockholm, St. Petersburg, Helsinki and Riga - Might have meant a Norwegian Fjords Cruise - the deep Norwegian fjords are impressive.
Many Baltic and Norwegian Fjord cruises originate from Copenhagen and are ideal for B2B.Just be aware that not all Norwegian cruises does include the long fjords - look for itineraries like Geiranger, Flåm, and Olden - a Norwegian fjord Cruise should include at least one of these ports - preferable two in order to navigate the scenic fjords in my video in post #7.
As I thought. RCL Jewel has one date upcoming for 2022. AUG 31. I think I am in. Has Flam, Geiranger, and possibly Olden as well. Thank you for confirming for me.
Looks just gorgeous.

Loved reading your review. Thanks for that.
I just didn't catch the time of year you went.
I was on the Alaska cruise in 2019 and a few people told me the Baltic was more beautiful than Alaska. Would this be the area they would have been referring to as opposed to an actual Baltic cruise?

Yes, several times - please post your itinerary. Norway Coast does include a lot of very, very different locations - also very depending on time of year.

Thank you for sharing this. I am just beginning to research and not sure which Baltic cruise to do. This is beautiful , big help.

The fjords and scenery in southern Norway are amazing - further north is primarily North Cape (Honningsvåg) and of cause the midnight Sun - smaller ships might also visit Lofoten Islands and navigate Trollfjord,
If midnight sun is a must no alternative to northern Norway.
My recommendation is the Magnificent Norwegian fjords.- 1

No answer to this ......I would love to know as well.
My mom just asked me this question the other day as she is joining us.
Anyone??

Enjoy this so much Anita, thank you for all your information! I love copy and paste!
Love your photo's!

I appreciated both comments from you folks, no rudeness taken on my part.
I was glad to know about the rental and thankful for the information on the new laws coming up for Home rentals as I had no idea this was even happening.
We are all here to help each other not attack!
Thanks again to both of you.
I have a question though.....if I am looking at more rentals. How do I know if they have the new law in place for their rental? I see martincath that you indicate a license will be shown on the listing, I guess I just look for that license listed as well. Oh, why do governments change the rules so much! ;p
Don't worry, be happy!!

Thank you Runnergirl and martincath for the information.
That kind of sucks for renters then. Good that safety will be an issue but still sucks.

I have a few questions about your layover in Toronto. Did you go through customs in Toronto? Was it hard to find your way in the airport? Were there signs in English?
We are possibly going through this airport for our trip next year.
Thanks for the info.

There is only one providence in Canada that speaks French. (Quebec)
Most of us Canadians do not speak French.
Just a little history lesson for ya'll! ;p

At the Anchorage train depot let the baggage handlers know which shop you are boarding and your luggage will be transferred to your cabin.
Instead of boarding right away, wander aeound the harbor for a few hrs. Its a busy place; warch the fishermen come in with their catch, look for otters and bald eagles. The train arrives around 11am so you have several hrs to enjoy seward.
That's great to know, thank you!
I was thinking we should spend the night there so we see all of Seward but I would imagine the day would be good enough there. Keep the info coming!

That looks great, can't wait. Love the dome car!
Hope you are enjoying your cruise!
Thank you for the photo, keep sending! lol

I have looked at their site. There a few tours listed. I was thinking of getting a group from our Roll Call. We are visiting Naples from 7am-7pm on a Friday.
Which tour did you do?
Was it a shared tour or just your own group?
Do you remember the cost?
Did you prepay or on the end of the tour?
We just did an Amalfi Coast tour, it was just our group of 6 that went and I think it was about 500.00 for the whole day between us. It was a bit costly but divided up not so bad and worth EVERY penny. We didn't pre-pay, just paid Roberto at the end of tour. It was fantastic and nice that he has someone lined up for Pompeii upon your arrival. The lunch was 20 bucks and it was also amazing, wine, limoncello, and wonderful homemade food!

We are leaving on the southbound cruise tomorrrow. We fly into anchorage (at airport right now actually) and then we are taking the Alaska railroad to Seward tomorrow morning to board the plane. There are other transportation options to Seward as well. Hope that helps.

Oh, I'm very jealous of you right now! lol
Thank you, that is what I was thinking of doing. Where are you staying in Anchorage? Please do let me know how your trip went and if there are any tips for me when you return!
Have an absolutely wonderful cruise!! What ship are you going on?
 Travel safe!

We reserved an Air BNB as the hotel prices were pretty outrageous! Our Air BNB is $179 Canadian dollars a night. It's 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. We are a family of 4 three nights at a Mariott Residence Inn was $380. While I realize we could have found a cheaper hotel, the Residence Inn provides a bit more room, free breakfast, and a kitchen so we felt the difference in cost between Residence Inn and a traditional hotel room was justified.
I'm going to be looking at Air BNB for next June. When do you go?
I haven't started looking yet, just booked the cruise this morning. Always nice to speak to someone about where they stayed.

Hi all
Just booked a cruise this morning, Seward to Vancouver
Where do we fly to? Anchorage or is there somewhere closer?
Any experiences on the best way to do this?
I see you can take a train to Seward from Anchorage, could fly in one day and spend the night then hop on the train. (I read it's early morning for departure)
If anyone has experience to make this easier to figure out, I'd love to hear from you. My mom will be with us, she can't walk far.
Thanks in advance!

We used Roberto from amalficoastdestinations and he was awesome!
He will take you down the coast to Amalfi where he is from, he will take you to a nice family restaurant for lunch with a family he knows who runs it. (Gorgeous views too!)
Then he will get you to Pompeii and have a guide waiting to take you around and show you the important things and back to the ship on time. Best day of my life!
Enjoy! :)

You don't need to do that, just go to the top of the page and under Thread Tools, just choose Subscribe.
Anyway, back to the OP, great to see you back. The thread seemed to disappear for a while there.
Oh good, that's what I thought and then it was here again. Thought I was losing my marbles! ;p

Hi Chris, thank you for doing this. Wonderful information and wonderings from us cruisers~

Ok just subscribed. We are actually sailing on the same cruise as BillOh & his lovely wife, Gina.
So looking forward to your updates. We are also doing the Murder Mystery Dinner for the first time so especially looking forward to what you think.
Have a great cruise and the Happiest of Birthdays. :D:D
I am very curious about the Murder Mystery Dinner, please come back and tell us how it went!
Hot and hard beds
in Norwegian Cruise Line
Posted
Hi folks
In 2019 we did Island Princess in Alaska and last February we were on RCL Odyssey. Others in between with no issues. Both of these ships have terrible beds for my husband and I. On the Princess ship, sweating was an issue. It was the bed causing it, a few others mentioned it was a memory foam mattress which will make one sweat.
Now, Odyssey was terrible. The bed was hard and sweat, wow....we sure did. I slept a couple hours on the deck one night. I got cold and hubby got hotter as the air wasn't on without the door locked on the patio. I had the couch made up for me for the last three nights and slept much better. If you don't sleep well, it puts a damper on the cruise. Went to my room 3 nights at 7 p.m. after dinner, so exhausted.
Has anyone else had issues like this? We can't be the only ones noticing these changes. I have been on 16 cruises since 2005 and this seems to be just the last few years.
I remember when the beds and bedding were top notch.
I love cruising and heading on the Norwegian Pearl in April for a TA, praying for a good bed for 14 nights.
