We have a AFT Vista Suite on the Crown and I ordered a small scooter from a vender that Princess uses. This is for my Mother in Law, she has cruised many times, she can walk, but not very far and she can/does know how to use scooters. However, I am nervous about crowds and rules on the ship.

I've stayed in this suite on the Crown, since its aft you are close to Sabatinis and the MDR so all you have to navigate is the aft elevators for food. I've been in a wheelchair too (temporary), some people can be rude and do not necessarily even consider handicapped people's needs so give your self time to get places. We had to wait up to 20 minutes or more for an elevator in that wheelchair, it was a holiday cruise which made it even worse. So bring your patience, give yourself plenty of time to get places, and drive safely! HTH

Here is a hot tip I just learned from a fellow cruiser on the Majestic last Summer, this is mostly for trivia players. You can ask your cabin Steward for cardboard and rubber bands (free) and make backing (the rubber bands hold the paper in place) for the trivia papers so you can write on them when on a ship that uses Princess Live venue for trivia. Yes now they do hand out one large board per team but if others want to write down their answers these handy cardboard backings are fantastic. Plus, you can decorate them with your team name, and so on. Thank you Dr Dentist!

Right on! Congrats on the new stateroom! Even though I started this thread, I was under the impression that after final payment that was it. I even learned from my own thread! I am going to see what happens after final payment and then go for it if anything possible presents itself.

When I called my TA she easily moved us , it looked like we might have lost $85 OBC but after she called Princess we did not lose a penny. Its never too late! ;)

We are leaving in 2 weeks for the Star P to Hawaii, I cheaped out and bought an inside for a ridiculously low price last month and yesterday I looked and there was a obstructed ocean view guarantee for the same price and I grabbed it. We did not lose any OBC, and any ocean view is better than and inside. It always pays to watch, even at the last minute.

And everyone should know when Amelia plans a private tour, she does huge amount of research on where to go well before the trip.

The Majestic is open for business (not just in Asia) several months in the upcoming years, I am tempted to do Asia to Australia and New Zealand in 2018 or 2019!

Thanks for posting your review. I'm not sure we'll ever make it to the Majestic, but it's interesting to find out the new things Princess is trying out. I'm sure we'll see some of them in the next generation of ships not built for the Asian market.

I'm hoping the Boba bar shows up on more ships. Yummy!

The Indigo is amazing, its in the most interesting neighborhood off the beaten path. Across the street from the Indigo is a beautiful shop with hand made clothing, hand beaded purses and more. Next to them is a great pastry/food shop for local treats. Try the coconut "bombs" which melt in your mouth.

Honestly I don't remember the taxi cost but it was not cheap, of course nothing is cheap in Singapore.

wait...what ! you went to Dubai ... Abu Dhabi ... Kuala Lumpur ! How was the architecture? (sky line) Are they big, beautiful, stylish? .....

Dubai and Abu Dhabi were were very similar in architecture, of course everything was bigger and more in Dubai: Malls you cannot visit in one day, snow skiing in the middle of a shopping mall, tall buildings everywhere reminding me of NYC. Abu Dhabi was much slower, less cosmopolitan, more conservative towards woman's clothing and coverage of skin. There were no giant indoor shopping malls, although there was an outdoor shopping area by the ship/port and it was very expensive, unlike the one in Dubai which had some really good deals. We went to an incredible Mosque in Abu Dhabi that was very difficult to get into for a woman who needed to be covered completely except for the face. Men wore shorts.

I liked Dubai a lot better than Abu Dhabi, it was very nice and I was very comfortable. Stylish is an understatement, this country is filled with wealth and all of it is on display. :D

Thanks for the kind words. Cruising is a perfect way to get a taste of different places, look for a re-positioning cruises that might start or end somewhere exotic. Try the Majestic, its got some very cool cruises between Asia and Australia/New Zealand/Fiji.

Review: May 21, 2017 Majestic Princess Rome to Singapore

After spending a relaxing week in Rome, we finally got to board the Majestic Princess. Wow, wow, wow. I was blown away by it from the minute we walked in! My experience was so positive.

We planted ourselves in our favorite room, Emerald 319 and obstructed balcony with no real obstructions! I’ve spent close to 55 days in that room on the Regal/Majestic in the last 6 months! I am a creature of habit I guess. Anyway the room is identical to that on the Regal, and for the most part the ship is the same except for a few important changes. Bed Linens and the new robes were fantastic, much nicer than I’ve ever seen on a Princess ship. They now use sheets between the comforters and I like it much better. The top of the bed is also covered in a lovely patterned white sheet. Our room steward was nice and personable and always in a hurry.

The Casino is still in the same place but it looks different, however I did not spend any time there and cannot tell you how. The casino is no longer open to the floor above, so upstairs shopping is not as stinky now. The vista lounge has changed but only a little; in the back of the room are Mahjong tables which are accessible to trivia players when trivia is held in that Lounge. Those tables are rented out at $10 an hour, including the whole set up, and the room is now called the Vista Gaming lounge. It is still the place where many parties take place. Club 6 is gone, totally MIA and in its place is a bar and smoking room. I barely went through it once.

There are mid ship stairs in place now, making many people happy. The center atrium is the same except a few shops have moved. The regular store with candy and basics, well lots of candy, is on the 5th floor, opposite to the International Café.

Service was fantastic, from the Barista’s to the Buffet (World Market Place) the servers were kind, hardworking, and lovely to interact with. The food was magnificent. Yes, it was the best food I ever ate on Princess in traditional dining, except when I was on a World Cruise. We were in the traditional dining room on the 6th floor aft, and our servers were incredible. There were so many dining options and for sure we did not hit them all in the 28 days on the ship. Frankly the food was so good in the main dining room we did not want to leave it ever! We had specialty dining given to us by our wonderful travel agent and we ended up turning it in for credit! I did hear that the Chinese food specialty restaurant was wonderful.

There is little Pizza on the ship, you have to go to Alfredo’s to get any, and of course you can still order it from room service for $3, and its good, but not nearly as good as on other ships. Good for my diet! There isn’t any Pizza near the pool now, instead is a delightful little noodle bar with its yummy and different daily menu. Its next to the grill, which still serves up Hotdogs, burgers, and yummy fries.

Next to Princess live is a Boba tea bar with the most incredible drinks (non-alcohol) and I became addicted from the first one I ordered. This bar also has some fancy coffee, no more cookies on the bar and no booze there. They did have cookies in large jars so you could ask for them if you wanted any.

There was a ton of activities offered, many of them were basically sales presentations, seeming to be a normal part of the patter these days! As my friend Bob say’s “I applaud them as a stockholder and am alarmed as a cruiser” or something like that. Anyway trivia was offered too many times in Princess live, at least now they are giving teams writing boards, well one board anyway. Now there is a giant window outside of Princess live so people can observe games in progress, or even play while outside. I met a gentleman (happy dentist) who had made his own boards for his trivia mates using cardboard and rubber bands, they were so cool and he got the materials by asking his steward for the cardboard (lots of boxes on the ship) and rubber bands! Brilliant idea.

Ports were fantastic as they always are, my 2 private tours in Athens and in Petra turned out wonderful. Especially Petra, which was the tour of a lifetime! We visited Naples day two and had a tour with Fabrizio of course. We visited Paestum, one of the best Greek ruins in Italy, and it was amazing and quite educational. Thankfully we had hired a guide to educate us about the ancient Greeks who lived here long ago. We did spend too much time in the museum and not enough time outside amongst the actual ruins. Still we all loved the tour and stopped to eat and shop but I didn't buy anything. We also went to a diary and water buffalo farm where we had a lovely lunch with the most incredible fresh cheeses and breads and OMG it was amazing. I would be so fat if I lived here, am grateful that this food is not available at home, there is nothing like fresh cheese in Italy. I'm drooling now!

Next we went to Athens and since I was not feeling well Ken had to be me and managed the group tour that I had put together. He did great and for this cruise we decided that he would be me and I get to be him! This in and of itself is a total vacation for me and Kenny keeps saying how hard my "job" is! The universe is divine in its lovely little lessons. Kenny said the group had fun and he also enjoyed it, I on the other hand stayed in bed and lolled around. Later in the day I called Barb and Gary and we went to the duty free shop and bought some food/munchies. Not that we need it here on the ship, it is like a food orgy here and man the food is very good.

After Athens we visited Santorini, one of the Greek Islands. We sailed into what used to be the center of the island but thousands of years ago there was a humongous volcanic eruption which blew half the island away, now scattered around the main island. Most of the island is high above the bottom and you half to take a donkey, walk, ride a gondola, or hire a cab and drive to get to the towns. I have a picture of my mom riding a donkey here, so I am always thinking of her as we go. We visited the picturesque towns or Oia, and Fiera, and another that I forgot! This is the most picturesque of all the Greek Islands and a first time for us!

After Santorini, we were tired and ready for the two sea days it took to transit the Suez Canal, which was interesting and quite picturesque. On one side of the ship were the great sand dunes of Egypt and on the other side small towns and roads, as well as pontoon bridges and guards. As we sailed into the gulf of Aiden, there are guard boats everywhere. We are on Pirate guard now and being my mother’s daughter, I am not afraid and instead excited that I might see a pirate! Of course no such luck. We have lots of security on the ship as well as off the ship with boats all around us filled with armed guards. And all the railings have giant hoses wrapped around them which is used as a good defense. We sail for three days as we make our way to Petra.

We finally reach Aqaba on the Jordanian coast of the Red Sea. Gary and Barbara keep reminding us that this is where Moses parted the Red Sea! We don't see that, but we are off to Petra, which I missed last year because I was sick, for a change! I always get sick on cruises and so far I am pretty good. Hope I didn't just jinx myself, lol.

I organized a private tour of Petra for $155 pp, in a small group of 13, instead of taking a princess tour with 40 at $300 pp! Our Guide is Ali and he is amazing, speaks perfect English and takes amazing g care of us. Throughout the tour he call us the “adventurers” and we all like that! We go inside caves that none of the other tours get into, and yeah I am able to walk the whole 3 miles down! Petra is a blow mind, just amazing. The Siq is a narrow slot canyon made of amazing red rocks, we could begin Utah/northern Arizona the only other place in the world that I know of that has these kinds of slots! As we walk Ali illuminate’s us with stories of the ancient Nabateans who lived here long ago. At the bottom, as the tour ends, I don't shop much to Kens amazement, instead we try to walk on but I am pooped and shaky and it is almost 100 here. Ken puts me on a Donkey (just like my mom who was here some 30 years ago) and takes me back to a shady spot where Barbara and I wait while Ali finds us a horse drawn carriage to talked us to the top. Ken and Gary walked back up the 3 miles, such determination and Gary is in his mid 70's. We aspire to be just like them when we reach their ages.

The entertainment was great, both in the piazza and in the Theater. We saw several new shows, and lots of interesting acts including a duo called Branden & James, they were fantastic and I bought their CD! Also of great interest to me was Pete Best, the Beatles first Drummer who was fired before the band became famous. He gave a Lecture and answered some questions from the audience, most importantly he did not know the reason why he was fired! We got a good seat because we came early enough. We had just participated in a Beatles trivia which was fun.

The ports continued to be intriguing including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Cochin, Sri Lanka, Penang, and Kuala Lumpur. For the most part, the Princess tours were not so great, consequently we canceled many tours and opted to go on our own to various places and many malls. We had all been to most of the ports anyway.

After 4 weeks, we were ready to get off the ship. Singapore was a mess, at least the disembark was not so fun because there was a huge line for taxi’s. We had booked a 2 night stay in Singapore’s Katong district, at the Hotel Indigo. I loved this hotel so much, it was immaculate and the room was so comfortable. Although I did not have a tub room, I did make great use of the foot soaking bowl, which was very traditional. The food was very good. The staff was excellent, from the manager to the bellhop, and desk staff, they were all magnificent. While we waited for our room, we were given traditional tea and coffee drinks and the room was available quickly. They provided water daily, which was greatly appreciated. Finally, the neighborhood was incredible! We have stayed in downtown hotels, and a hotel at Changi airport but for sure this was my favorite neighborhood. We walked for miles getting to see old row houses, two story shops, and right across the street we discovered a wonderful store named Choo with hand beaded purses and so much more. We will definitely come back here!

Are there kettles (hot water) in the rooms? I ask because once the Sapphire relocated to Asia, they put hot water kettles in each room. They were so handy for making tea, hot chocolate, and instant coffee.

Great choice. We used him and he was by far the best we have ever used in Europe. In a word "Outstanding" !

Its so funny, being with Fabrizio is an experience in itself, and for me the most fun. Oh and then add visiting amazing places in Italy and its magic. He is smart, knowledgeable, hip, a great driver, safe, silly, funny, with it, and just an all around great guy! I almost look more forward to seeing him than to touring!

Its been over a year since I last saw him, I need a "shot" of Fabrizio allaroundItaly!

Thanks for this review! I love reading all reviews whether I agree with them or not. Often, reviewers have visited parts of a ship I did not, and I'm always interested in what they have to say.

 

Like one or two other posters on this thread, I was on the Regal for the last cruise to Canada in October 2016. I am an experienced cruiser, but this was my first time on Princess. I loved the ship, the crew/staff, the entertainment, our balcony cabin on Aloha deck, and the food. I know there was a major turnover in crew once the ship headed to Ft. Lauderdale, and I'm sorry Amelia had an unhappy experience. We ate only two meals in the MDR (formal & one other night) but enjoyed the food and DR staff.

 

I plan to cruise Princess again this year (possibly the same itinerary) and in the meantime, thank you, Amelia, for taking the time to share your review.

I depend on other cruisers and their opinions and feel like I am grateful for others perspectives because they always are enlightening.

I am done cruising over the holidays, I am convinced that the staff are stressed and probably a lot of my bad experiences are due to this, especially in light of others positive ones on this ship a few weeks/months earlier.

I am ready to cruise the Majestic in May, can't wait to compare it to the Royal and Regal and maybe even a life from as we travel from Rome to Singapore!

I agree, the Regal was wonderful.

Yes the Regal was nice, well parts of it. The MDR food not so nice, and the decorations were tired. Maybe because I was on a Christmas/New Years cruise the carpets got soiled, and there was always food left around the Vista lounge, and Club Six.

The Regal "tired"? You lost me there...

We are boarding the Regal end of next week so this held our interest.

We were also on a Christmas cruise with our family. Noticed how well behaved all those 700 plus kids were on the ship (including our 4 teens). I still have visions of that Star Princess cruise to SA at Holiday time with those kids running wild.

I too noticed that the dining room food (we were on the ruby) was lacking . We had the opposite on our early fixed dining experience. Our wait staff served so fast, we felt like we were being thrown out.

The last night the waiter served my grandaughter's main course while we were eating our appetizers.

My husband and I plan on visiting the Regal's dinner buffet often. Will try the dining room and see what kind of service we encounter.

I am with you on this. Antibiotics doesn't work on flus or colds. I had the real flu once and can honestly say I was down for 10 days and didn't want to do anything for a good 7 days. Everyone I know with flu has had a similar experience where they wanted to stay in bed for at least a week. You can be contagious for probably 5 days after symptoms.

 

If it is caught early, tamiflu supposedly helps. It wasn't out there when I had the flu.

I was so sick, my oxygen intake was at 80%. I've never been that sick in my life, thankfully I was on a Princess ship because they have great medical care. I took antibiotics because I got a secondary respiratory infection, a girls gotta breathe! I also took Tamiflu, as did my husband although he did not have to flu and never got it. We both had bad colds as well.

I was tired for much of the cruise, maybe that made me see the ship as tired. Projection happens!

About the poor shore excursions.

 

Did you express your displeasure with the shore excursion desk? The experiences you describe should make you eligible for a partial refund.

The Head of excursions is Glenda and she is a doll. I mentioned our bad experience and of course so gave us a partial refund, Princes is always good about that and they rely on feedback to weed out the bad vendors. Nothing makes me happier than being able to book a ship excursion (so easy) and have a great experience.

Yes I described the Regal as tired, and I meant it! I do fancy being on a yacht, doesn't everybody? Oops you are correct there is a desk but I had it covered with crap! My bad...

Sorry to hear the food was not good and that you had to visit the doctor.

Oh well, all experiences are good experiences if I learn from them! I would have never gone to the buffet if I had not gotten such rave reviews from CC.

I enjoyed and appreciate your review, but feel the need to comment about one of your statements in the "got the flu" section.

They took me off quarantine after two days without seeing me again, I guess that is normal and didn't realize that I was no longer able to spread the flu after a few days on antibiotic.

 

The flu is viral. Antibiotics only work for bacterial infections. You could have had a bacterial infection superimposed over the original flu, but you would have been contagious from the flu for as long as 7 days.

If you had a bacterial infection in addition and were taking antibiotics for that, probably a couple of days of quarantine would suffice.

I stayed away from people for about a week, I will not go out and spread my germs regardless of whether it was my vacation or not. I feel responsible to not expose anybody to my germs, so regardless of being taken off quarantine I continued to stay in until i felt better and was not coughing or sneezing.
