  1. Costa Maya is an easy port there is a free tram from the ship to the port area where you will find plenty of shops , a large pool, bar and you can catch a performance of the Flying Dancers - four flyers, dressed in traditional garb, climb to the top of a very tall pole, tie ropes around their feet and descend, head first, to the ground while circling the pole another remains on top of the pole, playing a flute /drum .

We usually take an open air taxi to the beach area -mahahual- we don't go to the resort type beaches we just hop off and stroll the mahahual (sidewalk) till we see an area we like .Every 50 feet or so each beach area is serviced by a different restaurant /bar They only ask that you order drinks and food from them and you have complete use of loungers and shade Some even have fresh water showers you can use. There are also plenty of shops / stalls there to browse as well as water sports and massages.

This is one of our fav beach stops - enjoy

Majahual is the name of the town. Costa Maya was actually destroyed by a hurricane. They rebuilt the port area, very nice. Maya Chan would be great. Mom could rest on the beach and the more adventurous can bike ride on the bumpy roads.

  2. In a word trikes! Did it in feb and loved it!

I second the trikes Aruba. All you need to know is how to drive a manual transmission. Not motorcycle shifting, but that would have been fine with me. They can seat one driver and one or rwo passengers.

  3. We're renting a golf cart from Bonaire Cruisers for the day for $90. They have them for up to 6 people. We plan to trundle around with the map they provide stopping off at various beaches. We think it's a good way to see some of the island while still enjoying the sun and beaches.

That sounds like an excellent idea. Just search Bonaire Cruisers to get info? I will need to find some prisoners, wait I mean persons, to come with. Thanks for the info.

  4. Awesome live review! I loved reading your Escape one, it got me really pumped for my trip.

I am in a sort of lull right now where I now know I passed the bar, have applications in all over the place, 4 interviews completed, and recently stopped working at my unpaid internship. A big girl job is right around the corner and I think I need a vacation before I really grow up.

The 5 day Dawn cruise that is leaving in a week is crazy cheap for solo's. I decided to do a courtesy hold on it and will likely pull the trigger tomorrow afternoon! I went on here to do some research and I feel like finding your live blog just sealed deal for me!

You should definitely go on the 5 day. My husband and I are on that. His first cruise. We are from Illinois, next to Southeast Iowa. We are driving down Friday and spending Saturday night in New Orleans.

  5. Will be on my ship on 12/11. I wish now that I had booked a suite. Most of my other cruises were in suites and loved it and thought I would try something new...:(

Love following along with you, will have to show this to my husband who will be on his first cruise in about 2 weeks. Finally talked him into it.

Thanks for your photos and vids and all you are doing.

  6. Between my mother and I we bought 10 Thomas Kinkades. and then I bought one Peter Maxx and an original palm tree painting done by a married couple. Can't remember their names right off hand.

I would say half of the kinkaids were framed by them. Those were received pretty quickly. I brought the original off the ship. The Maxx took a little longer to receive. But....I forgive them since they are having an Auction in Branson and Peter Maxx is going to be there. ParkWest invited me for the weekend and I plan on having a good time there.

  7. Passport agency will require verification (Marriage License) if your last name is different from your birth name.

cruise line will also require verification (Marriage License) if you use birth certificate as verification on the cruise.

There is usually a list of what is and is not accepted by passport people as verifications.

She should be fine with a certified birth certificate, marriage license, and drivers license to get on the ship.

Only problem, God forbid, is if anything should happen and she would need to fly back to the states. Can only do that with a Passport.

  8. We went in April, 2012. There were 5 of us, but only 4 did the encounter. They had a special at the time where if you were on Norwegian you paid for one and the next one was $1.00. I did end buying the disc with all 4 of them on it. Wonderful pictures, especially when the dolphins were giving them a ride out of the water. Got the prerequisite kissing of the dolphins too.

I tried taking some pics, but like others have said, distance and the way it is constructed made it difficult for any good pics.

  9. Phew, that is what I was thinking about suites, having different hair care products. I have heard things about those products. I am hoping to pack very lightly so I didn't want to be bringing conditioner with. When I cruised before my hair was short and no problem with product in regular rooms. Hair is longer now and definately need conditioner. I looked at pictures of the suites and they show a tray with all the extra product on there so I am just gonna trust it will be good.

  10. Yes, please continue Posting. I am sure there are plenty of us reading this and keeping up on the journey. I have let all my friends and family know of his adventures so far. Thank you for keeping us posted.
