In Ketchican on our first Alaska cruise saw a skeeter on the side of a building that was as big as my thirteen year old son's hand. Always a good idea to take repellent even if you don't need it. At Taku "no see ums" (biting gnats) were more of a problem.

We had 9256 on Jewel last month sailing from San Juan. It is just a phenomenal corner balcony. You will LOVE it! The Radiance class is our very favorite. Enjoy!

Our Mediterranean cruise was outstanding. It was very port intensive. We sailed from Barcelona and would go back in a heartbeat. We used Rome in Limo in Rome and Naples, and also had private guides recommended by them at the Vatican and Pompeii. We would do it all over again! If we did it again, I would stay longer! A 7 day cruise plus 3 days for travel just wasn't long enough, especially when you travel that far.
We are also celebrating our 40th next year and have booked a 16 night transatlantic from Miami to Southampton. Lots of sea days and lots of new ports and the itinerary really excited us! Whatever you decide, happy planning and Happy 40th!:)

Goodness, all of this sounds very familiar. The coughing bug was on the Jewel of the Seas on our April 5 cruise out of San Juan and I caught it. So did our son and his wife. Husband remained well. Cough, fever, aches, chills.. It was absolutely awful. The ship and the airplane - everyone was coughing. We ended up with bronchitis. We feel like the likely culprit is the fact that most people fly to get to the cruise and are in a closed environment breathing recirculated air on the plane. Then u go into another environment where u r in close proximity to a lot of people and then it just spreads to even more people. It is probably a viral infection and the sanitation efforts are usually for bacterial situations. The bottom line is that it's miserable and it may not have originated on the ship but on the plane. Hope everyone is well and stays well!

Really great review! We will be doing our first TA next April, different itinerary. We used Rome in Limo and the private guides at the Vatican and Pompeii as well on our Mediterranean cruise, and I felt like I was reliving it all over again after I read your review! Sounds like you had an exceptional cruise.

We had friends doing btb who we accommodated by buying liquor on board. The liquor was delivered to us the last night of the cruise and we gave it to them for the second leg of their btb.
