  1. On Oceania, Azamara and Princess, those porthole rooms have been laid out like this, until now:

Hey FOLKS, I'm new to this thread, but I would like to state that Jim & Stan are THEE experts re Oceania, and you should heed what they say.

Jim & Stan, you don't know me, although we met at a gathering on the Marina on the initial voyage from Italy to Miami. That was a great trip! I will be doing the Miami to LA next month on the "new" Sirena. Good luck guys.

  2. Question- if i ETS out of the army on September 3rd third year, and I am going on a cruise September 4th, can I wear my Class As at the formal night?

Im probably goign to do it anyway because Im cruising with my 81 year old army dad and it makes him proud, but wondering if i could justify it as travel home from being disharged from army (not retiring, only did one 8 year contract). The army reserves been good to me but it time to move on....

Go for it. I think you qualify with the spirit and intent of the law, if not the exact letter of the law. Thanks for your service.

  3. We are arriving on a Sunday in November, (Crystal Symphony) and would like to REnt a car and drive North (west) to Thousand Oaks. Are there any car rentals at the pier? Are there any car rental shuttles? If not, what is closest car rental location open on Sunday morning, and how do you get there?

  4. You are correct Colonel; but the prohibition of wearing ANY military uniform by persons not ACTIVE in the armed forces on occasions, other than those you mentioned is against the law. Unauthorized wearing of the uniform is contained in Title 10, US code, section 772. Each of the military services has their own uniform regulations, explaining and clarifying this.

I am proud of my uniform and my service, and have worn my uniform on the occasions that you mentioned. As a retiree, (and not in physical shape to do the uniform proud) I do NOT want to "impersonate" an active military service member.

P.S I look forward to meeting on the "Riviera".

I'm inexperienced at replying on these boards. In my post above, I am referring to an earlier post on this site (#13) by "Col(ret)Wes". who cites Army regulations about the occasions that a miitary uniform can be worn by a former member of the Armed Forces.

I realize that people do wear their uniforms on cruises, recognizing that there are no MP's/SP's/FBI, on board.

  6. I concur with KITI9. We were in QG for our 50th Anniv, and even ordering a special meal 2 days ahead, the food was a great disappointment. Crystal, Regent, Oceania, are superior. I would equate the food quality/selection to that of Holland America (our recent cruise on Massdam). The Lido (Kings Court) known as King Chaos, is terrible. We came into a port alongside a Celebrity ship, and a group of Europeans aboard our QM2,came out on deck, applauded, and raised thumbs up to the Celebrity ship and a very vocal thumbs down for the QM2.

This was our 2nd trip on QM2 and we have sailed on QE2 six times (we really do hope for Cunard, but we have been very disappointed with QM2).
