  1. After reading (and rereading) Royal's wordings and looking at the CDC guidelines for the intervals for Pfizer, I truly believe that the 28-42 day timeline is meant to apply to mixed doses only.

    https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/covid-19/info-by-product/pfizer/downloads/prep-and-admin-summary.pdf

    Reasons I believe this:

    1) Pfizer and the CDC both recommend the dose interval to be 21 days, not 28 days.  This would mean that anyone in the US who received their doses at the recommended interval would be excluded under this policy.

    2) The dosing guidelines at the bottom of page 2 actually ALLOW for doses to be administered after the 42 day recommendation and still count as a completed series.

Great news.  I was on the phone for over 7 hours today.  5 hours on hold in 4 phone calls.

Great news about being able to move your cruise.  I forget, what are you sailing on next year at Christmas.

Moved an 8 day Empress Eastern NYE to an 8 day Symphony Xmas Eastern w Perfect Day.

I'm sitting on hold now and this is going to be interesting because there is not an exact match of the itinerary I'm trying to move. One is Eastern Caribbean, one is Western Caribbean and one is Western Caribbean plus Perfect Day.  I love a good challenge though!

    Keep us posted!

  4. Tried to move a Bahamas/Perfect Day cruise to an Eastern and was denied.  Ended up moving it to a different Bahamas/Perfect Day option.

On hold right now trying to move a New Years Eve cruise to a Christmas cruise.  Not looking promising.  Of note, though, the agent said that there is no problem moving from Eastern - Western - Southern.

  5. Hi Ken,

We are booked on an 8 day New Years Eve cruise in an interior on the Empress this December - Eastern but a unique itinerary that includes Puerto Plata and St. Croix.  Are we limited to Lift and Shift to another 8 day cruise?  Would another Eastern itinerary fulfill that requirement?  Could we possibly move to an Oasis class in an inside New Years 2021/22?

Thanks for being such a great source of information.

  6. Way more similarities than differences.

    1.  Show up when you're ready!

    2.  Dining room food, IMO, is very similar with Carnival getting the edge on desserts.

    3.  Not sure.  May be an option if the ship has a Vintages???

    4.  Check your Cruise Planner.  On Harmony you can reserve times for the shows. This is highly recommended.   All of  the prices for drink packages etc. are there.

    5.  To me, one of the major differences between the two is how they handle pool towels.  On Carnival, room stewards exchange these each night and you can also exchange on the pool deck.  On Royal, the checking in and out of towels is on the passenger, with people lining up and ensuring they don't get charged $25 post cruise because of a foul up or forgotten towel.  Other than subjective food options, this is the one area I wish Royal would adopt Carnival's methods. It's small beans but, hey, we are comparing.

    6.  You're on a cruise - Have a great time!

  7. We were on Majesty at the end of August.  We are starting to develop an affinity for these smaller, older ships.  Of note, for us on this trip, was the excellent bar service on the pool deck and in the Schooner bar.  Never an empty glass.  The piano entertainer in the Schooner, Eric August, was top notch.  We always enjoy a good piano bar experience and it can be hit or miss on Royal.  It was a bullseye on Majesty.

    Have a great cruise!

  8. From another thread and poster don731:

    From a TA:

Cuba Travel Update - Just in from Royal Caribbean - The Majesty of the Seas sails tomorrow and was supposed to go to Havana. Will now go to Costa Maya. It would now appear that all Royal Caribbean sailings to Cuba have or are being rerouted from having any stops in Cuba..

Per Royal Caribbean - Passengers on the sailing tomorrow on the Majesty of the Seas are getting a refund in the value of 50% per stateroom of your cruise fare paid as a credit to your onboard account. And, if you have any pre-paid Royal Caribbean International shore excursions for Havana, you'll also receive a refund in the form of a credit. You may use these credits anywhere onboard and if you don't use them, they'll be refunded back onto your credit card on file.

Will update as we get word from the other vendors.

  9. Q

Does the June 4, 2019 statement regarding Cuba impact my ability to cruise to Cuba in the future?

    A

Latest Update - June 4, 2019 at 6:00 pm EST

We are aware of the new U.S. travel restrictions to Cuba and we are analyzing the details to understand the impact to future sailings.  We expect to know more within the next 24 hours and will communicate any changes as soon as we are able.  In the meantime, we are adjusting the itineraries of our June 5 and June 6 sailings, which will no longer stop in Cuba. We are communicating with our guests about those changes.

  10. Thought I would weigh in with my experience on our NYE cruise aboard the Vision.  I pre-purchased $500 in promotional play chips and received an additional $25 and a scratch ticket.  I decided to do this, in part, because the exchange rate (I'm Canadian, eh) offered in my cruise planner ($1.31) was better than the bank's current rate ($1.37) when it was time to travel.  This meant I had already saved some money on this deal.

My only real concern was being able to play through this chips in a timely manner.  Had I remembered that the casino would be closed the entire first night and at 9 pm on the last night of the cruise because of laws governing the Mississippi River portion of the trip, I would have had more concern, however, time would show that these worries were somewhat unfounded.

On the second day of the cruise, I went to the casino cage, presented my card and asked for my pre-purchased chips.  I was given five $100 promotional chips and five $5 promotional chips.  I asked that one of the $100 chips be broken down to $5 chips and this was happily accommodated.  The cashier also said I could return later to break more of the $100 chips should I require.  I discovered quickly though, as I played through the first $125 in promotional $5 chips that if I stayed at the same table, I could simply exchange my $100 promotional chips for the $5 promotional chips I had just lost to the dealer.  It worked quite well and I never had to return to the cage.

In all, it took me only TWO HOURS of blackjack to play through the $525 in promotional chips, estimating an average bet of $20 per hand.  I was having a very good session on that day and at the end had turned my $525 in promotional chips into over $1000 in regular chips.  I will certainly be looking for this option for future cruises and may up the ante to the $1000 package.

P.S.  I was unsuccessful on my scratch ticket.  You can't win them all.
