  1. I wish there was a way to purchase after the cruise, as well. After my Voyager cruise out of Galveston in 2008 with my dear friend, I was able to order several more photos once we returned home. I can't recall what the website was, but the link was given to us while onboard. I'd love it if that service was still available.

  2. We've only cruised out of Galveston since 2006 and there has definitely been a decline in "dressing up" on formal nights. I'd say (from my experience) about 40% of the people dress up in suit/tie and formal dresses now. However, I'd say another 30% wear dress slacks/dress shirts for men and resort dresses for women. The remaining 30% run the gamut, with the majority wearing nice jeans or khakis and dress or polo shirt for men and skirt or capris with a nice top for women. I've seen very few attempt shorts and, for the most part, have seen most people try to look presentable. On nights other than formal nights, the range is wider, with the formal wear giving way to the khakis/polo shirt for men and skirts or capris/nice top for women.

We really enjoy dressing up, and my husband always brings a suit. There have been times he's worn his tie without the jacket, depending on the "mood" of the cruise.

Enjoy your cruise! We're looking forward to our next one on Liberty in January. :D

  3. According to this, it appears that you can now purchase packages on some ships.

    It does show Absolut available.

Looks like there is a fairly long list of ships where the packages aren't available, though.

This product is not available on the following ships:

    • Brilliance of the Seas
    • Explorer of the Seas
    • Freedom of the Seas
    • Independence of the Seas
    • Jewel of the Seas
    • Mariner of the Seas
    • Navigator of the Seas
    • Ovation of the Seas
    • Quantum of the Seas
    • Radiance of the Seas
    • Rhapsody of the Seas
    • Serenade of the Seas
    • Voyager of the Seas

  4. I don’t recall this being an option. We were on a carnival cruise and docked at mahogany bay. And we left with everyone else that had booked that excursion that day.

We were on RC both previous visits to Maya Key (formerly Fins n Flippers, I believe). Once we booked on our own and once through the ship. Both times there was a tender that ran between the resort and the pier about every half hour. If I recall correctly, the resort provided the tender. It was really convenient because we had several in our party and we were able to return to the ship at our leisure.

  5. You pack whatever you feel you might need! After your first cruise, you get a feel for what you do and don't use. My first cruise, I was way over-prepared and over-packed. Had a huge roll-on, medium to large suitcase and a carry-on, just for me. But no one, and I mean no one, in our party lacked or wanted for anything. And I also had a wardrobe list that included four outfits per day with matching jewelry and shoes. I was excited! And I'm super-organized and a bit OCD, so it all had to be perfect.

HOWEVER, after that first cruise, I whittled that list down further and further with each cruise. To the point where all I bring now fits in a small to medium suitcase and tote carryon. (And I'm working on getting it reduced even more.)

Would I go back now and change what I took the first cruise? Nope, not at all. I needed to bring what I felt secure bringing. Now, my goal is to travel light and I'm comfortable with that. As long as you're not over the limit for your flight, I say bring it all. And, hopefully, there will be a next cruise for you and your sister and, with this cruise, you'll find out for yourself what you don't need to bring on the next one.

    Have a GREAT trip! :)

  6.

Another consideration with Maya Key you are depending on their boat transportation that arrives and leaves with everyone in a group at the same time. So if you little one has had enough for the day you will have to wait to leave.

In the past, there were boat taxis that ran from Maya Key back to port every half hour or so. Is this no longer the case? It really made it nice for those who were ready to head back a little early.

  7. Our group is sailing on Navigator of the Seas in May. Several want to do the Mystery Dinner Theater. Can anyone tell me on which night it's done and the times? I really enjoy the main shows in the grand theater and would hate to miss a good show there. It's been several years since my husband and I have cruised, so I'm guessing they would all be new to us. I enjoy a campy dinner theater from time to time, but I also enjoy the main dining room and shows on a cruise. What to do, what to do...
