  1. Really great pricing for Singapore-Cape Town for those who can make it - it's essentially a 21-night voyage for the price of a 7-night winter crossing!

    P1: $5819 per person, with $800 OBC

    Q5: $7899 per person, with $1250 OBC

I would have been really tempted if I didn't already have other travel plans during this period.

  2. I was in one of the Deck 2 single cabins (KB grade) for the recent December eastbound crossing, and loved the cabin; the photos of Deck 3 single cabin (KC grade) look even better yet, but of course those cabins are rarer than hen's teeth.

There was a perfect amount of space for a single person, and I loved the way everything felt modern and fresh, particularly the colour scheme and the bathroom.

Price being equal (or perhaps even slightly higher), I would personally go for these cabins every time when sailing alone.

  3. I was on the same crossing, and I must agree that the food fell short of wonderful in Britannia. I found myself rarely looking forward to meals at Britannia - a number of dishes lacked refinement, being less than ideal in at least one aspect out of visuals, textures and/or taste.

Steaks were a particular low point for me, with the sirloin on one dinner having unchewable gristle as well as being quite tough generally, and the "medium" fillet on the Surf and Turf arriving nearly well done; the half lobster on the same dish was also tiny, no bigger than a decent sized prawn once out of the shell.

King's Court also paled in comparison to the buffet on Celebrity Edge from August this year, which was similar or better in terms of quality of items, but with seemingly about four times the variety of selection.

It was my first ever crossing and had an absolutely wonderful time overall, so I would happily do it again. However, next time it will be either in one of the Grills suites, or I will factor in more dinners in Verandah (which I did enjoy) if I was not.

To be fair, the fish and chips at Golden Lion was spot on (with proper chips, not fries), and Carinthia Lounge quickly became my favourite spot for breakfast with the small dishes that were flavourful and beyond the run-of-the-mill.

  4. Onboard prices on the eastbound crossing which left yesterday are as follows:

$80 for beer, wine and spirits

    $40 for premium soft drinks

    $15 for specialty hot drinks

    $12 for soft drinks

I was originally not intending to buy a drinks package, but after factoring in the 15% service charge for PAYD and now that we are on day 2 (meaning I am only buying it for the six full days at sea), it does suit my consumption profile after all.

The new rooms are 8116 to 8130.

The steward showed me the rooms that were being used by the workers onboard.

Very nice they are, we swapped our next four cruises to these while we were onboard.

    Hope this helps.

Just FYI, currently on the QM2 and took a stroll up to Deck 8 to have a look - the matte wood doors with the smaller spy hole were between 8116 and 8126, with 28 and 30 still having the gloss wood).
