  1. We have downloaded the NZETA app three times on on iPhone and when it is opened an error immediately occurs. Can’t get any further. Today we went online and filled the information there uploaded a photo and within minutes had the email approving the NZ ETA. THE email reminded us that we need to fill out the Visa card on the plane. Both DH and I are set to go for our February 2024 cruise.

All cruise lines do this.  If they get a charter, they'll cancel the original sailing - charters pay rack rate with no discounts and few perks, so they will take that business any day.

I agree.  I think this happened to us for B2B cruises on Celebrity.  It was a real pain.  I pretty sure we dumped Celebrity for those two cruises and switched to another cruise line as we had other plans that conflicted with the other dates Celebrity was offering.

I just wish they would not book these charters within 9 months of the cruise date.

I was excited about this until I saw the photos. I don't like having a balcony over a busy deck area and that is the case for all of the balconies. I'd rather look down at the sea and not have constant noise directly under me.

I was really excited too, until I realized all the balconies would be looking down at deck 8.  Also I am not sure expanded the outdoor eating is a great idea as frequently the seating outside is closed because it is too windy.  This is true especially on the sides of the ship.  Maybe if you only sail in the Bahamas or Caribbean, but mid-ocean the winds are factor.

  4. I decided I am going to be optimistic that after this pandemic has ended cruise lines will change their minds and allow people with chronic conditions to cruise.  Otherwise they will be losing not only customers but all the money that goes with those customers.   Cruise lines are businesses where income matters.

  5. What bothers me more is that RCCL and Celebrity policy was denying boarding for any person with any chronic illness, e.g. heart, lung, liver or kidney disease or immunodeficiency status due to HIV/AIDS or diabetes or cancer.  Do they even care if it is controlled by medication?  Or in remission?

  6. We just received an email from our TA stating that the rule requiring a letter of fitness will continue as a preventative measure.  So far two cruises are requiring this letter, RCCL and Norwegian.  It not only applies those 70 and above but to the following persons:

"Boarding will be denied to any person with a severe, chronic medical condition, including those specified by the CDC. Guests of all ages will be screened prior to boarding, regarding underlying health issues that may prevent them from sailing, i.e.  chronic heart, lung, liver, or kidney disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, or cancer."

Our TA goes on to say that it is expected that other cruise lines are expected to adopt this strict medical requirement, as they will have to do it to survive. I think my cruising will soon be ending as I have had asthma for 55 years and need regular medication to control it.  We have already cancelled on cruise this year and have 3 more in 2020, four cruises in 2021, and one in 2022.  But we need to add another cruise as we had to cancel our cruise of the Celebrity Reflection this month and that cruise must be taken no later than December 31, 2021.

I am just not ready to stop cruising.  I sure hope this really will not become a permanent requirement.

  7. Biker19 so where can I find it on the website.  I logged in and went into my reservation but couldn't see it.  Does it open at a later time?  We are 11 months out and airfare is available by the airlines, so we have been checking prices and want to know what Air2Sea will offer us.

    Edit:

I just went back to the website and looked and still can't find Air2Sea.  Is it available only at check-in?  Isn't that pretty late to get airfare?

Edit#2:  Just googled Air2Sea and got a link to the RCCL website for transportation.  Will see if that works.  Thank you.

  8. We received the Princess magazine, Destination Collection yesterday.  When looking at the deck plans for the ships I noticed that for the Enchanted Princess Vines has been replaced with the Salty Dog.  I know on other ships the Salty Dog was on the pool deck.  I am disappointed that Princess has removed a bar from the Plaza area.   And I will really miss the wine selections we often prefer those wines to the ones in the dining room.  Couldn't they have removed the Gelato and Collections shop instead?  Neither of those item venues are used much on the cruises I have taken, so they cannot be profitable for Princess.

BTW, Vines is still shown in place for the Sky Princess.

How do you all feel about this change?

So what do you think this means to someone whose cruise leaves on Monday with a stop in Havana June 15/16 and a private tour already arranged??

Or does it mean all tours, even those arranged through the ship.  It really sounds like Trump wants to restrict any American money going into the Cuban economy.

  10. I was hoping for some replies here on this new wine list.  It looks like we still have a pretty limited number of wines on the beverage package though.  I am familiar with some of the new Pinot Noir list and was surprised that Lyric by Etrude is listed, as we drink that at home as our cheap Pinot Noir.  But we only pay around $22 a bottle for it.

Is there any reds we should really try for a nice dinner?

  11. We had a single extra small lobster tail being served only on the last of three formal nights on the transatlantic cruise on the Royal in September.  Everybody was complaining.

I don't mind the changes in menu if it is good food.   What I don't understand is why in this day and age would they serve so few vegetables.  I though eating more vegetables is in.

We have cruise #6 coming up on the Royal. I belive that this entitles us to use the elite lounge??

Where is this lounge on the Royal please?

The Elite lounge is at Club 6.  However when doing a transatlantic on the Royal in September 2018 it was moved to the Vista Lounge because there were so many Platinum and Elite passengers onboard.

  13. The changes are different.  Seems to take up a lot of space and uses more battery.

As to the down time.  This is what I was given a little while ago.  It looks like it is Sunday night.

Sections of our website will be unavailable due to scheduled maintenance between 10:00PM PST and 12:01AM PST on 11/4

  14. Thank you for a very thoughtful reply. We too are thinking of doing the Princess transfer for many of the same reasons you gave. But neither of us had thought about what if the ship didn’t make it to port. More incentive to go Princess to me. As to the train, it seems like 50% of the time we have gone to LeHarve the trains are closed due to strikes, so I am not that confident on them getting us to the port.
