Correct.  It was a water pump if I remember correctly, the captain in his 6am announcement specifically said what it was (I just do not recall 100%, but I think he said water pump).

Does @tjunmin happen to remember from that 6am cabin announcement by the captain?  I am pretty sure I heard water pump fire, but memories are only so good that early in the morning.

The fire was out, therefore no need to alarm and wake up all onboard at 6am, could've made an announcement later.

It would have been nice for everyone not to have been woken up at 6am I guess, but it sounds like from what others are saying they were just following protocol.

So there was obviously a fire onboard and the captain never announced it until after it was extinguished.

I only noted two announcements from the original quote above.

This is correct, only two announcements.  The corridor announcement for the crew and then, a few minutes later, the cabin announcement telling passengers the issue was resolved.

what's the benefit of doing it?

The main benefit is the club’s a la carte menu (in addition to the regular menu) and more intimate dining environment, with the same reserved table available whenever you want it.

  6. Just to clarify — the announcement from the captain at 6:00am was the type of announcement where it is broadcast from the speaker on the ceiling inside your cabin (which woke everyone up).  I do not know my technical terminology for that type of communication.  A few minutes before that announcement, however, there was an announcement calling the crew and that announcement was not broadcast into guest cabins, but you could hear it faintly coming from the hallway speakers.

  7. I was (and am) onboard.  The captain made an announcement around 6:00am that morning letting everyone know the fire had been put out.  The talk around the ship that day seemed to be nothing more than “that was an unexpected early wake up call,” no one concerned about the fire that was quickly put out.

Thanks for your heads up with dress code updates. Many appreciate these updates.

Also stated, very clearly, are the locations that have been designated as casual on gala evenings, for those who do not care to attend a spot where the “dress code applies.”

In pitching the ship will tend to pivot about a point 2/3rds of the way back . . .

So if this is true, a person who wants a cabin with the least likely movement would want a cabin generally close enough to Staircase C on QM2?

  10. A behind the scenes tour was available the other day on the current QM2 world voyage segment between Singapore and Cape Town.  They ran an ad for it in the daily programme.  It was $120 per person if I remember correctly.

    . . . or Cunard not enforcing.

I think it’s Cunard not even trying to enforce the dress code.  The other evening on QM2, when it was Red & Gold gala night, one younger gentleman went to the theater in a t-shirt and gym pants, while many many older gentlemen had shorts and Hawaiian style vacation shirts on.  Apparently not a problem for Cunard at all, they just walked in and took some nice seats.  And this was at 8:00pm in the Royal Court Theatre on a gala evening!

    I'm thinking about booking a World Cruise . . . I've never been on a cruise before . . .

This is like saying I am thinking of running a full marathon, but I have never gone running before.  It does not make much sense.

Thank you, is that because it's an embarkation day ?

Might be, today is embarkation for those getting on in Singapore.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that on occasion lobster roll is offered as a special but there is a charge for it. Had it on the QE this past Aug/Sept and on the QM2 a few years ago Yummmy.

Really?  Do they print it on the Golden Lion menu when it is available?  Or it’s posted on some kind of “specials” board?

  15. Speaking of the Golden Lion, does anyone have a photo of the current food menu they could post?  Not a website link, an actual photo of the menu you took recently showing the food options.
