  1. It's been many years since I took this tour but at that time we were able to tour the gardens on our own and were given a time to meet to tour the house.  The house does have stairs so she might or might not want to do that portion of the tour.  You'll want to get comments from people who have taken this tour more recently to make sure it hasn't changed.

  2. Formal night is just an opportunity for people to dress up.  The only places on the ship where there are any requirements are the main dining rooms.  You won't be turned away unless you're really informally dressed (like shorts, etc). However, most people do attempt to dress up a bit on formal nights. The menu in the main dining room on formal nights is usually somewhat more upscale than other nights. If you're worried about seasickness, choose the mid-ship location for dining. Your wife should discuss her possible seasickness with her doctor and take whatever he/she recommends. Most likely, she won't have a problem on an Alaska cruise. If she does, fresh air is helpful.

  3. I can't reach anyone at Princess Insurance to answer this question.  I have enough credits from cancelled cruises to pay for a new cruise.  If I insure the new cruise with Princess Insurance, will it cover the credit amount as though I paid cash?  I can't reach anyone at Princess who can answer this question.  I'm assuming it will cover the new cruise, since the amount I'm paying for the insurance covers the cost of the cruise, but I'd like to know if anyone has been able to obtain a definitive answer.  Thank you.

That's a wonderful tour; we did it way back in 2007. We also ended up as a group of 10 by asking others in our roll call to join. That made the tour less expensive; plus we really bonded with those other cruisers.

So glad to hear that!  It had really good reviews on TripAdvisor too.  We'd be delighted if anyone on the Roll Call would like to join.  It's a 2-day tour, pretty comprehensive but only 8 hours each day and at a little slower pace than the tours that do everything.  The cost is $285 each.  Details can be seen at alla-tour.com.  We haven't actually signed into this Roll Call yet.  We're Kay and Jerry from Monterey, CA.

  5. Thanks for your help dogs4fun!  That's what I expected to see.  When the site wasn't secure, I wondered if it were a false site.  I got into the Alla site via another route and it was, indeed, secure. I booked our tour.   Looking forward to both the cruise and the tour.  We've done this one 3 times before and enjoyed each one very much.

  6. I'm interested in booking the Alla Comfort Tour in St. Petersburg.  For those of you who have booked with Alla, what's the best and safest way to do it?  From some comments I've read, they only book directly through their web site but it is marked "unsecure" on my browser.  Do you book through another website or a travel agent?  Thanks for your help.

  7. We have an excursion booked with Princess to the giants causeway. Can anyone tell me if I will need to take my national trust card to gain free access or will the entrance fee, shuttle bus etc be covered by princess??

I took this Princess tour earlier this year. All costs were included, both the Visitor Center and the shuttle bus in both directions.

  8. We also miss having a priest on board. I've read, but can't confirm, that it stopped because some passengers complained that they were concerned they might be paying for some portion of it. I've never attended a Mass on Princess that wasn't full or overfull, not only with passengers but with crew. There are obviously enough of us that we could contribute to fare for a priest if Princess would allow the service to be held and there were a method of doing it. I know retired priests who would be delighted by the opportunity. We love spending holidays with Princess but do sometimes reschedule cruises because of the lack of a priest.

  9. I've seen a free shuttle mentioned. Should we decide to only walk one way, will it be operating in October or is it seasonal?

Oh, I'm sorry; I should have checked before recommending the trolley. After Labor Day, it does run only on weekends. I called MST this morning and asked it they were going to put on a special trolley when cruise ships were in port and that said that, as of now, they have no plans to do that. However, it seems that other people have called or emailed with the same question, so if I hear that they have decided to put a trolley in service, I'll post that info here.
