  1. This is what I do :

    • Always drive the scooter while on board in slow/turtle speed especially when entering or exiting an elevator
    • Get on the first available elevator w/space regardless of direction
    • When exiting an elevator ,particularly if you do not have anyone running interference, announce that a scooter is coming exiting. Some people waiting for the elevator , or even on the elevator , tend not to want to move.
    • During the day avoid ,if possible, using the elevators closest or in direct route to the pools and windjammer. Also avoid the closet elevators to the MDR at dinner time if possible. Best to scooter to the farther bank of elevators at these times as they tend to be the least congested.

These are great tips for scooter/wheelchair users. I try to use them all myself. My tip is to use humor when you encounter people who make nasty comments and not let it get to you. I have found that most people who cruise are very considerate and helpful .

  2. I just placed a bid of $72 on Priceline for a 3* hotel in zone #2 (Fort Lauderdale downtown) for the night of November 8,2013. My bid was not accepted and I was wondering what seems to be the going rate for a 3* hotel during that time period? I'd appreciate a little guidance as this process new to me. Priceline lists Hyatt at $126 and says "name your own price" is about 50% off. But they refused my $72 bid which is less than 50% off. I'm confused!!! HELP

  3. Hi, I have heard of 2 ladies who took disposable pants on their cruise, and had plenty of room for gifts etc, when they disembarked. :D:D

I take a "scrubba wash bag", for undies, sox etc....very handy.

    kind regards, Lorraine:):)

Lorraine, what is a "scrubba wash bag". Please inform an experienced cruiser. Something I haven't heard about.

  4. I just discovered today that if you have a handicapped placard/plate, parking is free at the Port of Miami. This is copied directly from the website (http://www.miamidade.gov/portofmiami/faq.asp):

Is there a cost for parking if you are disabled?

Disabled parking in all the terminal parking facilities at the Port of Miami is free. However, in order for the parking fees to be waived, appropriate documentation must be provided to the Toll Attendant upon exiting the parking garage.

Disabled Parking Checklist / Required Documents

    ____ State Issued: Driver's License/I.D. Card/Passport

____ Original Parking Sales Receipt/Parking Ticket Stub (No Copies)

____ Authentic Disability Placard/Permanent Disability License Plate

____ Proof of Sailing (Sailing Card or Original Purchased Ticket Issued from the Cruise Line)

____ Letter/Card from DMV-(Dept. of Motor Vehicles) signifying who the Disability Placard is Assigned to (NOTE:

applies to states that do not have a Driver's License # on placard!)

I hope everyone finds this helpful! Can't beat saving $20/day plus having the added convenience of parking right at the port. :)

Very helpful information. Please share it with the "Special Interest Cruising" section under "Disabled Cruise Travel". I'm sure many of those who post there aren't aware of the free parking.

  5. It is not walking distance to a water taxi stop. By the time you pay taxi fare and water taxi fare it might not be worth it. You could always go discount shopping and dining across the street, and there is a Barnes & Noble, movie theatre, and Dave & Busters arcade there too.

Thank you, royalcruz, you are a wealth of information. We have a few ideas now.

  6. We will be staying at the Hyatt Place FLL South and need to know how far it is to walk to a stop for the Water Taxi. Also, besides the scenery, what kind of places does the Water Taxi take you to? Is it a good way to kill a few hours instead of just staying at the hotel? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  7. I've had no luck so far bidding Priceline, for San Pedro 3.5 stars for 12-5-09 to 12-06-09. Started at $65 and went up to $80. No luck.

Now going back to $65 and will try again. Any wisdom/ encouragement/ thoughts?

    Departing SP on Mariner 12-06-09.

    Thanks in advance!

I heard on another thread that now you need to bid about $95 to secure the Crowne Plaza - San Pedro. Maybe they will get lower later in the year. Good luck.
