Actually most reputable VPN companies encrypt all information that is going over the VPN connection.

    Per NordVPN -

VPNs like NordVPN encrypt all your online traffic to scramble the data and keep it private. NordVPN uses the highest encryption standard available to VPNs today: 256-bit AES encryption.

They are stating that https connections make additional encryption pointless, which is true.  Confidentiality of your data and attribution of your data are two different things.  VPN only adds confidentiality when you are using non-https sessions

I know how frustrating that can be.  Here is the eligible sailing list that Celebrity published for this year's Memorial Day sale.  It has an extra spreadsheet in it that listed the reasons for exclusions that may give you a better idea as to what is going on.

As you can see, the excluded sailings are holiday cruises, President's cruise, charters, and Galapagos itineraries.  Perhaps your cruise is occurring over Easter?

Although this does not have anything to do with your question, note that high demand shore excursions (defined as being 60% booked or more) are excluded from the sale regardless of sailing.

Thanks so much for all the detail.  My actual cruise is over April 6th - April 13th.  Not over easter... but maybe it's "close enough to count"?

Do you happen to know if the Black-friday-esque deals typically exclude the holiday exclusions?  Or am I likely hosed, to not receive any deal?

  3. I have a Caribbean cruise on the Ascent booked for next April.  So far my sailing has been excluded from every sale but I can't understand why. If you look at the sale spreadsheets and filter on the Ascent it lists most every cruise, skips over all of April, and then resumes including sailings in the sale in May.

I'm not looking to complain, more so understand what I can be on the lookout for next time I book.  If there are two viable dates and the prices only vary by a small amount, I could choose a sailing that is more likely to have sales included.

I personally would not connect to a bank on any public Wifi without using a VPN.  Celebrity does all it can to block VPN's on their ships.

Unless you have major reservations about someone knowing which bank you use, there's no reason to not trust https / tls.  Read the URL, make sure it matches your bank, move on.

The only real information "leaked" over a TLS channel is DNS names, payload size, and destination IP addresses.

Was wondering what might happen with the $100 I already got credited. I booked several things to get to the $500 and one was an excursion. Now the excursion has gone on sale and I wanted to cancel it and rebook it using the same card thus getting a refund and a new charge. What would American Express do. I don't want to lose $100 to save $50 but saving $50 is worth canceling and rebooking.

They might claw it back, they might not.  It's ymmv.

Exactly what happened to us.  There was a lovely woman at the pool who worked so hard and was so sweet.  I saw an officer and told him about her, and later she told me she got a scratch off and it was extra Wi-Fi.  She was very excited and certainly deserved it (plus my extra tip!!).

So nice!  Was this on Celebrity?

In Retreat so we know premium drinks are included, but when I follow your instructions above, only my name and not husbands, is listed on the premium drinks and wifi. As he's always been on the booking I expect it's just another Celebrity IT thing?

    Just Celebrity things 🙂

If you have all included, you should see two zero dollar orders.  Clicking into the details of them will show a drink package and a wifi package.  If you don't have all included you won't see those there.

  8. I'm curious to know if anyone knows what concrete benefits crew members can receive when they are recognized with positive reviews after the cruise.  I have heard things like "time off" or "wi-fi hours" but nothing concrete and curiosity has me wondering...

In my prior cruise we had absolutely astounding service from the pizza guy and I left a message stating as such (I said I'll be back as a customer because of people like him!).  What are some things they can receive for positive callouts?
