  1. Margienj, I am trying to get that record, or a copy. I cannot find it for sale anywhere. Do you know where I could get his Oceanic record?

My friend, I can help you.

    On Facebook, CHRISTOPHER CATHODE ...

Or email me at draughtbones@gmail.com or just respond to this post.

I have all the CDs (but should let you know, not the SPECIFIC one you appear to be in search of ... But definitely all the same songs!

    Ciao,

    Chris

  2. Oh my gosh ...

I don't know if anyone will even see this thread/reply, but I do have quite a treasure up for grabs ...

I have (6) of the original record albums (LPs) from ONLY the S.S. Oceanic (only ship my Italian grandfather and my grandmother would sail...)

I have been faithfully restoring the vinyl recordings and transfering them to CD - they sound alive, vibrant and fantastic! I enjoy that style of music anyhow.

But my goal has been, all along, to offer the FULL-COLOR reproduced album artwork (front & back) scanned and color printed, and assembled into a handsome binder. The printing charge (well, actually, the color digital scanning charge) for all 6 albums (both sides) and a CD with the images cost $251 USD!!! But, I don't believe in doing anything half-way: It has to be perfect - it's how my grandfather would have wanted it, and as many of you can attest - it is how the OCEANIC would have presented it.

There are the LPs I have available; they go as a set:

    Donzelli's Group I

    Donzelli's Group II

Donzelli's Group III (with full-color band portrait - very rare!!)

    Sergio and His Band

The Gino Stante Quartet (with all 4 member autographs on album back panel in colored felt pen)

    The Callaghari Orchestra featuring "Renato"

Binder with full-color album artwork and other actual Oceanic scans (menus, daily itinerary, trivia, etc. - from a passenger info packet)

Each CD almost 40 minutes long and with full-color on-screen thermal printing (of the respective album artwork)

$100 USD via PayPal ... I can email you pictures if need be.

This price includes insured shipping to you - no matter where you live: US or Europe.

My name is Chris; I live in Maine, am a reputable hospital employee in a large medical center, and my grandfather, Louis Sansone, owned a successful Machining business called UNITED MACHINE in Lincoln, Rhode Island, and grew up in Providence. He loved the Oceanic, being Italian, Federal Hill, his family and his friends.

  4. I still miss the Oceanic! Nothing has topped her yet for me! I loved their long cruise each February. Has anyone been on that cruise through 1980? I'd love to get back in touch with old travel and crew friends. There was a great mom, Doris and her son, Steven, nurses from Massachusetts, a singer who sounded like Lou Rawls, an English entertainer named Graham. The Donzelli Orchestra, the other orchestra leader, I think his name was Sergio. I'll never forget Al Di La, "the Hustle" - too funny!

Oh, Yeah! Here is the record album cover ... there he is in all his glory!

  5. Hi everyone-

The Oceanic was my first cruise. I must have been about 11 years old. There were hardly any other children onboard and the staff spoiled us rotten. I remember how rough the seas where going around Cape Hatteras. So many people were seasick (me included). That night when the band, the Donzelli Group, played, people came out on the dance floor and attempted to do the "Alley Cat" while the ship pitched and rolled. We liked them so much we bought their album. Does anyone remember the very long breadsticks, we loved them!

Needless to say, the s/s Oceanic hooked me on cruising for life.

    Thanks for the memories!!

    Jac

Hey, it's funny you should mention that about the record album. My grandfather sailed Oceanic out of NY several times in the 70's & early 80's, and he bought all the Donzelli albums, the Sergio and his Band Souvenir Oceanic album, Geno Stante Quartet ... and yes!! I have them all, God rest my papa's loving soul! I can't send you an audio file as an attachment on this site, but if you send me your email, I will send you some Donzelli MP3's ... fresh off the vinyl record! Great stuff -- I like this music way better than any contemporary stuff on the radio today!

    Ciao,

    Christoff

P.S. To anyone else reading this: Does anyone know the whereabouts of Donzelli Group nowadays? There's not much on the internet about this bunch ...
