At least some of the solo studios on MSC look pretty terrible. The bed is a pull-out sofa, and there's a connecting room on both sides. They're really more of an expansion for the regular rooms they connect to. Be careful.

It does look small - I'm booked for end of September, so I'll report back.  The price was great - $350 (it would have been cheaper but I selected which room I wanted) + $170 fees for 7 day cruise, with 3 days in Bermuda.

We'll see...  I camp in my minivan so compared to that this looks luxurious...

I do not like paying for two whole people to travel solo but what is worse is when they charge you more than two people for the trip. Was told they think they are losing on the second persons upcharges such as spas and excursions but I do not do any of that. Paying for two whole people keeps me from spending that money on those type things.

If you book a ghost person will they automatically charge you double the tips, or if you tell them the other person can't come, will they only charge you tips for 1 person?

I look for the best price and usually that is not a no single supplement cruise. I'll take a cruise that is $400 and a $200 supplement over a $1000 no supplement similar cruise. MSC is far and away the best cruise line for lowest prices for solos in the usa imho. They are coming to Galveston  nov 2025 with a new terminal.

MSC has daily meet ups for solo passengers and solo cabins but not a dedicated solos lounge like some NCL ships have. The first one is almost always hosted by a crew member and if they feel good you might get free cheap booze if you don't already have a booze package. They usually have that first meeting a chocolate cake or finger foods and sandwiches that are very very good.  But honestly the solo cabins on MSC aren't as comfortable as NCL. Many solos take other cabins and sometimes insides can be less and even outside rarely cheaper when still available and solo is filled up and what the solos were going for. The biggest complaints of the cabins are the beds are too low and the matress is lousy but there are others like the layout is bad for moving around and using draws etc... Insides are so much better.

Thank you for the MSC info... I'm traveling MSC in September in a solo cabin.  We'll see how the cabin is, but the price was really amazing - I usually don't stay in the room except for sleeping / getting ready to go out, so I'm hopeful that it will be good enough..  For a 7 day cruise to Bermuda (with 3 days in Bermuda!) it started at $300ish if they pick your room, but a little extra if you want to pick your own room.  I'm paying $359 (picking my own room) + $170 fees, which is amazing for 7 days.  That's good to know they have solo get togethers.  I have a husband so I'm not single, but definitely traveling solo.  I'm also hoping that I can meet someone who may be willing to share a Lyft or Uber back to LGA at the end of the cruise 🙂

Thanks for the write-up. I always appreciate hearing from someone that provides both sides of their experience with actual examples.

Can I ask what experience you had (Bella, Fantastica, etc) and your seating arrangements? I ask because as a solo traveler I was sat alone at a two-seat table (my preference) my first two times when I had Fantastica and I was sat at an 8-top my last cruise when I was Bella and it was awkward for a number of reasons. No idea if it was related to my "experience" or just coincidence. I am on a casino comp in September, but upgraded to Fantastica; will ask the maitre d' to change my seating or will just use the buffet if they stick me at an 8-top again.

I'm traveling solo on the 9/29 cruise to Bermuda.  How was sitting along at a table for 2?  Did you request that prior to boarding, or once your boarded?

I'm debating what to do...  My thought is to try the dining room the first night to see how it goes with whoever I'm seated with, and if it doesn't go well go to the buffet for dinner.  I'm also worried about getting a large table and on some eveninings being the only one showing up at a large table (as others will probably have other plans - either at other restaurants, or eating out in Bermuda).
