  1. Anyone have any information of Ocean Coral and Turquesa all Inclusive in Cancun? Going soon and have on idea what to expect, any information would be great, thnks, kmbb

Try tripadvisor.com forums section. Lots of info.

  2. Excellent post hdawson. I have pretty tough skin as well. Kick me and that may be okay, but let me see you kick an innocent and you're in trouble. And then there comes along someone who refers to Progreso as a pig ---when they don't even know the proper spelling!!! I've always been curious as to why there are so many more horses a$$e$ in the world than there are horses.

  3. Hdawson, you bore me. Send this back to the top for more people to read the truth. Progresso is a dump and the more people who say so, regardless of these "cruise pros", will share the experience and good people will spend their money somewhere else...hopefully in a location where your "rich, arrogant" money will be appreciated. Dawson always wants to get the last word in, so.....Progresso is a pig.

    Speaking of boredom....

  4. Thanks for sharing your opinion of Progresso. I think it is a "dump" also. Let these "cruise pros" keep up their game. Others will read your review and save their money. I wrote the title review over 3 years ago and I stand firm in my report. Progresso is a pig with lipstick.

Unlike some, even LOTS, of other places, Progreso does not even try to pretend to be anything other than what it is....a simple, low key place that happens to be visited by cruise ships.

Some just don't get that. And I'm not saying you're wrong, and that's okay...but still, I feel so sorry for you. Really, I do.

  5. We were Progresso Mar 3rd and I loved it. We walked around the pier area and then took the shuttle into town. I didn't know what to expect from all the reviews that I had been reading before our cruise. We were very impressed. I liked the fact that you could tell them no and that was the end of it. We took the Double Decker bus that takes you around town and loved it. While we were waiting to leave, we actually saw a couple of cops doing what they are supposed to do as far as traffic control is concerned. We wouldn't have the traffic jams that we have if the cops would direct traffice around a problem. After the tour, we walked down to the beach area and went to Los Arcos and had a couple of "Ritas" and then walked along blvd. I told my husband that I was very impressed since I didn't know what to expect. I would love to go back and have more time. True, it's not Cozumel or Cancun, but, sometimes it's nice not to have all the tourist traps. Go with an open mind and you will enjoy your stop in Progresso. After we got back I looked up Los Arcos because we have one in Tomball and sure enough, they are all over the place. The owners came from Mexico City. We are going to have to try them out.

Great post. I try every day to choose my attitude......is this going to be a bad day, where I let everything get under my skin and be bothered by the negative or will it be a good day, where I enjoy the quirky and different and see the small problems for what they are...just small. That being said, I find the atmosphere of Progreso and the attitude of the people very "glass is half full". It's amazingly refreshing to see people genuinely happy and content and guess what? Their happiness and contentment didn't require a Wii or new Lexus to make them feel that way.

  6. Hi All,

Just thought I'd chime in. We are planning another (yes, another lol) land trip to Progreso and Merida for a week in May. Soooo excited!!!

We're doing this because 1) Our cruise in Sept is just too far away and 2) Our cruise in Sept does not go to Progreso and we just can't get enough of all the wonderful people and things there and 3) This time we plan on finding our nest!!!

  7. I registered for an account just so I could reply to this blasphemy! I am returning to Progreso this week and am thrilled.

On my last trip there I was with five girlfriends- we're all in our early twenties. So while our interests may not align with a family or older crowd, we had a blast. All five of us agreed that it was much better than Cozumel.

We loved the double decker bus tour- even the ducking from power lines. We all bought coronas and took tequila shots while walking around the town. If you're not concerned about this "real Mexico" issue, you'll really enjoy stopping into local bars and shops. It was lovely, full of incredibly gracious people. We were approached by a Mayan fella that wanted to sell us Cubanos, but after we declined he was happy to abandon his wares and chat with us for the rest of the afternoon. He was really impressed by the tall blonde girls, me thinks. He carried our towels, gave us his email address and said if we ever returned we'd have a place to stay. That was the overall attitude of the locals, we found. And try not to hate the vendors too much-- they'd rather be on a cruise vacation, I'm sure. A polite no does the trick.

A warning: the Corona Beach party is a tiny, roped-off area of the beach. There is absolutely no reason to pay for that excursion. We were just a few meters away from the "party" and felt like we were having more fun. No volleyball net of course, but who cares?

We went on the banana boat ride and it was nothing short of terrifying. I wouldn't recommend it for younger kids, because the driver was ROUGH! At one point my girlfriend fell off and ended up underneath the banana. Needless to say she was sputtering and freaked out when we finally pulled her back up.

The water was lovely. Massage was cheap and fabulous! No compliants about roughness or being shorted. No offensive smells as some have reported. If you're brave enough to explore a city WITHOUT an excursion or definite plan, Progreso is a fabulous city to do it in. Vaya con Dios!

Thanks Anna :) We love it too!!!

  8. I have been to Progreso several times and NEVER experienced anything that you have described.

You may have some issues, but I don't think any of them have to do with Progreso.

For ruins, I recommend Uxmal. Plan on going there again in February.

    :) LMAO

Ya know, NOLA, I just KNEW we couldn't disagree on EVERYTHING!! And now I find there is common ground for us.....go figure :)

  9. Hdawson I admire your patience and attitude and Clackey for your sense of humor...if the rest of the world could see the glass as half full instead of empty we would probably have a better world. I agree with you 100%.

To Agrip76: I'm sorry that Progreso wasn't for you and I hope your next port of call is more to your liking. Sincerely.

I must say that my wife and I have been to Progreso 4 times (3 on cruises) and have never been solicted by prostitutes nor have we felt unsafe at ANY time. From the moment we first went there we were awed and inspired by the people. Their humility, genuine happiness and overall contentment impressed us so, we are seriously contemplating retirement in either Progreso or Merida. We feel that Progreso is a diamond....you just gotta see past the coal and dirt and there it is in the soul and spirit of the people. If only I could be so content....(sigh)

  10. Your pic is beautiful. We are thinking of taking this tour- but we will be docking in Cozumel and have heard that the trip is long.

Where did you dock when you took this tour? If from Cozumel, what did you think of the commute?

    thanks

When we went to Tulum we actually docked at Calica. From there it was about a 45 minute bus ride (very nice bus). I would say that it would be well worth it from Cozumel. The place was AWESOME. I would be happy to email you some more pics. Just drop me a line using my name at yahoo.

  11. If you've never tried Ron Anejo Aniversario, then you are missing an absolutely HEAVENLY rum. I was not a rum drinker before a friend brought me a bottle from Venezuela. It is so smoooooooth, you can almost eat it with a spoon. It's a great sipping rum on the rocks, or sometimes I mix with V-8 Splash Tropical blend.

I hope it goes well with the punch onboard too :) .
