I am very interested in the amount of shade available on the boat.
thanksWe just returned from the ABC cruise where we did this amazing snorkel excursion. There is shade at the back of the boat, enough for 6-7 people. Most people headed up to the front deck, which is full sun. They offer UV protection shirts and their own "reef safe" sunscreen.

We will be on the Dawn in May in Venice and the Greek Isles. I will be sure to try the sole. Thanks so much for the suggestion.

I really enjoyed your review. We will be taking a NCL Dawn cruise with the same itinerary in May. I'll be back with questions. Thanks so much for all your effort here.

We were on the Bliss last February and really enjoyed it, despite some reservations about it being a mega ship. I book based on itinerary so Bliss net our needs. The entertainment, food, service were all excellent!

We do more land vacations than cruising, but do enjoy getting the sampling that a cruise offers, and the convenience of cruising can’t be beat in some locations, IMO. We tend to favor cruising for seeing islands, the Caribbean being our favorite winter getaway. For European travel we like to do land vacations and enjoy staying in B&B’s. We keep saying that when we get “older” we will probably opt for more cruising, however we are now both retired and still enjoy walking several miles/day when traveling.
Our next cruise is to the Greek Isles.

I'm leaning towards using a TA for this cruise. Thanks for the feedback and for the suggestion to do a search. It took a few tries, but with the correct parameters, I was able to find this:

Hi, I am starting to plan a cruise for May 2020 and am wondering if I should use a travel agent or book directly through the cruise line. This is cruise #16 for us so we are no rookies. However, the cruise I am planning is a Mediterranean cruise (Eastern.) We have done a Western Med cruise, but it was all booked through a travel agent because it was a gift from my husband's company (yes, nice!)
Please share your opinions. I appreciate all feedback.

We were on NCL Bliss last week on Jost Van Dyke. We met a mother/daughter who were at Jost on Celebrity Edge (docked next us us in Tortola) and witnessed them getting back on their small tender boat for the return to the ship. It was one step with assistance from crew. You will have a very easy time.
JVD is our all-time favorites excusion. Don't miss it!

We sail 2/9-216, right after you! Great pics!

I never take my wedding ring set off, ever! Have been on several cruises and have never had a problem.

I was directed here after booking our first cruise. Going to do a Mediterranean Cruise this summer. With only 23 signed up for a Roll Call out of 5k guests I think I could get quicker answers here. This trip is our first trip to Euorope. We are using it as a trial to see places that we would like to come back to. We realize that 12 hours isn't enough time but to get a quick overview. From many Posts I have read here, Rome seems to require an excursion premium rather than DIY. For the sake of argument. A paid excursion to either the Vatican, or the Colosseum with time to grab something to eat. Then transportation back to the ship seems the best fit for us. My question is do I book something from this site, or through Royal Caribbean? I am going to join the roll call but didn't want to tie it up with newbie questions. TIA
In my opinion you can do too much research, but I understand that it is sometimes beneficial depending on how you roll!
Since this is your first cruise and first trip to Europe I would suggest an excursion booked directly though Royal Caribbean to either the Vatican or the Colosseum.
I have found the "Roll Call" board for my upcoming cruise to be very slow compared to when I first started visiting this site. I chalk it up to so many avenues for cruise information now.
We also took a Mediterranean cruise on RCI (loved it!) that included Rome. However, it was after having been to Rome twice on our own. There is so much to see and do, but pick one and get a taste. After your cruise you may want to do further exploration by air/land.
I'm also in the Northeast (Boston area)!

IF you want White Bay for a short while Rebel Yell is the best option.
IF you are in port for longer (10 hrs) you have other options.
Thank you. The only option for the February Bliss sailing leaves at 7:15 a.m. so I am passing this time.
Can't imagine being at the beach early in the a.m.

Just found this excursion for $129 "Escape to Jost Van Dyke: https://www.ncl.com/shore-excursions/TOV_50/Escape-to-Jost-Van-Dyke%20?destination=Caribbean+Cruises&port=TOV&sort=searchWeight&sortOrder=asc&perPage=12
Which of the two have people here done?

Here's what NCL offers for Tortola excursions:
https://www.ncl.com/shore-excursions/search?destination=Caribbean+Cruises&port=TOV
Scroll to the 5th excursion.
I usually book on my own but we leave Tortola at 3:00 so I think it makes sense to book directly with NCL if I choose this excursion.

I am interested in booking this excursion but $189 pp seems high.

Would the pax on the Caribbean cruises, i.e. Crown Princess be mainly North Americans? Not being nasty here.:halo:
You nailed it!
-
My Tieks have taken me all over Europe. They are the best fold-up ballet flats!
-
We were on the Crown last month for a Caribbean cruise and the dress code was lax in the MDR. I wonder how many people who are commenting are referring to a cruise other than the Mediterranean. In my experience people do follow the dress code on European cruises.
-
We were on the Crown last week and stayed at the Hilton Marina on the night before embarkation. The Crown was at dock #4 but our taxi driver was a bit challenged on how to reach it. The terminal traffic directors were very helpful and we got there.

OMG, TY all so much for all your replies. You made me laugh:D, I took some notes for when I cruise and have to fly, but as I am driving a Truck......:p:cool:
If you are driving to the port I don't see a problem. Take all you want!
We have to fly from a cold climate (Boston) to Florida or San Juan.
We both take a 25 inch piece of checked luggage and are able to fit formal wear and everything we need for the cruise in that and our under-the-seat carry-on.
We do Europe by air with a carry-on only so as not to be constrained by luggage. It IS possible with careful planning and coordination of outfits.
However, cruising is so different when you drive to the port. Have a great time!

Our balcony was the size of mllewis48's on the Crown Princess.

You will be fine without a tie. Some passengers will probably try to enter the dining room in shorts.
We just returned from our first Princess cruise. DH wore a jacket and tie, but many many others did not. A nice shirt and a jacket will be totally appropriate. We saw passengers with shorts every single night, including formal night.
