  1. Cunard should be ashamed! Awful handling in a very distressing situation by their insurance carrier.

And I for one will not be inclined to purchase Cunard Care in the future.

Hopefully all will be resolved over time. And funds will be released. Insurance companies can be so daunting to deal with.

Hope you are feeling better soon Jimsgirl.

  2. Just browsing the boards and noticed your post.

So sorry to read of your illness while on vacation. Being taken sick and needing hospitalization at any time is dreadful enough - let alone when you are in a foreign country. And it didn't sound like a great situation with the hospital/country you happened to be taken to. But thank you so much for posting regarding the insurance - which I am glad to hear did work out for you in terms of coordination.

I hope you are feeling much better soon. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

  3. Thanks for taking the time to post. I have a friend who has been aboard the same cruise as you are, and though she hasn't been online during the voyage your posts were a nice way to track the QM2 and how the voyage was going in general. Thanks again.

  4. We are trying to pack smart these days and have greatly reduced what we bring with us, but still find we have a lot of "stuff" to bring. We have reduced the weight per bag by breaking things down into extra bags.

On the shoe question, for evening clothes I like to have one pair of heals plus a backup just in case a strap or heal breaks, and then a walking shoe, sneaker, flats for non formal evenings, and yes, flip flops so I can wear them to the spa. It does add up.

  5. My vote is for a fix to Kings Court hands down - somehow it seems to have gotten worse over time. And until it is redone, I would suggest they make use of some attractive signage near elevator banks on deck 7, indicating what stations are open, and and where to go - so we don't walk in circles trying to figure it out. (I don't know, this may just be me personally:confused: - but I find it very confusing)

I was also thinking the Winter Garden could perhaps be used as a smaller entertainment venue for say comedians or acoustic type music performers. It would give some further use and life to that area in the evenings until there is something further done during a refit, and I think speaking for myself and husband, we'd personally enjoy another alternative to the bigger production shows in the Royal Theatre. Though there are jazz combos in the Chart Room, or pianist say in the Commodore Club, these rooms do tend to get packed. Obviously just my opinion for what it's worth.

  6. It is true - the Canyon Ranch spa isn't up to the standard it was when we sailed on the QM2 originally. And when I mentioned things (such as the lack of hair dryers) to one of the staff members she said it was due to cut backs by the new manager. When I asked to speak to the spa manager to address this and something else, I was told she wasnt avaiable, and also that it is Cunard management that is responsible. As I was there to relax and enjoy myself I never did go further. I still enjoyed the use of the spa, particularly the thermal pool....don't have one of those at home ;).

And to the poster who asked about rates - we bought a seven day pass for $105.00. Don't know if they change the rates depending on the voyage though.

  7. Absolutely no need to panic. Speaking for Cabin 4032 it was very satisfactory. The only noisy bits were when we anchored early mornings in the ports where tenders were used. But all in all it was a nice cabin, and a fine location for our voyage.

  8. Just returned from my trip and did use the spa, and enjoyed my time there whenever possible. I can say that the steam rooms and sauna were in working order. However, one of the pieces (not sure what it's called) that is used to fill with bubbling water to massage feet was broken but got repaired during the trip. And one day something happened to the thermal pool and could not be used for several hours. Also, the ladies locker area had one shower out of service for the entire voyage. And as a caution to the ladies who do shower off in the spa, they now have only one hair dryer, so it may be prudent to bring your own with you. However, for the most part, I never had a problem, and as I said I enjoyed using the spa whilst onboard.

  9. Hi, I just returned from my QM2 trip, and thought I would report back that I had no problem whatsoever whenever I wanted to use a PC in Connexions. It was slow as it has been in the past, but that wasn't surprising in my experience.

  10. Thanks to all for the great feedback. So nice to know it will not be a problem getting on the computers in Connexions. And Cap'n appreciate your providing best times to try that.

I admit to having a small problem keeping bags light :o - though this time I am really trying to do just that. One less item to think about taking is great.

Since cameras on our phones are not very good, we do bring cameras along - And we both have gotten so used to reading on Kindles we wouldn't want to travel without them. But I think that will do for us technology-wise for this trip.

Once again, thanks all for the information. :)

  11. Hi there,

I have read that many passengers are carrying their own lap tops on board since there is in-room wifi, but I'd rather not have to pack and take mine if I don't have to. And, despite the changing times, I do not have a smart phone (yet) though I understand many passengers are using those when they are in or near ports that enable them to connect thus skipping the hefty rates for using the Cunard system.

Know this must have been addressed someplace, so please excuse my posting if it is redundant, but searching through to find relevant posts wasn't working - so here's the question.

Now that there are no longer any computer terminals in the library (which I enjoyed using in the past), are there sufficient terminals for use in the Connexions computer room? For those that have used them, when did you find them easiest to get access to?

    Thanks for your help.

  12. Babs - it depends on what you are bringing with you......

But I can say that there are just two of us traveling and we have had as many as six cases (of varying sizes) stored under the bed. And I think on one or two occasions, we have also kept a duffel bag stashed next to the couch and out of the way behind the curtain to the sliding doors of the balcony. :o

  13. We've been on the QM2 a few times and have had no problems storing our luggage under the bed. However, I have a friend who will be cruising for the first time and on the QM2 next month, and she is a little concerned because her case is the hard variety and apparently quite large, and she asked if I knew how much clearance there was under the bed. I don't know,so I thought I'd try posting since there are so many knowlegeable people on these boards.

Does anyone by chance have any idea on the clearance in inches under the current beds on the QM2? I'll be travelling aboard the ship myself in a couple of weeks and can measure, but it would be nice if I can let her know sooner so she can eliminate any worries on this. So if anyone does know the answer that would be great.

    Thanks!
