  1. Okay this is bizarre... Earlier this week the DW and I made the decision to book the Trans Atlantic cruise and cancel the first 19 day inaugural cruise. After seeing what happened to the Sun I was worried that the same thing might happen to the Star....Well low and behold Princess did it for us a few days later....Heck at the way things are going the TA cruise could end up being the first cruise anyways.... well at least we locked in the cruise at a really great price...will be really curious when they release the cruise on the 30th what a new booking will cost?

  2. Hi, I thought I would let everyone know what current Passport turnaround it... We mailed off our renewals on Jan 29th and received our new passports back on Feb 26. We even received our old passports on March 1st.  Less than 4 weeks to get our renewals....

You have no choice but to accept the Medallion presented to you by the port agents at check-in.  The port agents have no access to the software/machine that will program cruise cards.  The Medallions already come pre-personalized and pre-programmed; all the port agents job is to confirm that you have presented the correct documentation and activate the Medallion by pressing a box on their tablet.  When you get on board, you can go to Guest Services and request that your Medallion be deactivated and swapped out for a cruise card.  TBH, it's a toss up if GS will swap out your Medallion.  They refused my cruise card request on the Enchanted in November 2023 and Emerald Princess in January 2024, citing that they were out of blank cruise cards.  Up until then, I was able to do the swap with no problems.  Not sure why the change because the crew still use crew cards to exit/enter the ship and open their cabins.  Don't know what will happen if you say that you have a pacemaker because it's stated that the magnet in the Medallion can interfere with pacemakers.  YMMV.

The magnet in the Medalion is not powerful enough to cause any issues with a pacemaker. Been on 2 cruises with the Medalion without a single issue...

  4. The question I have is what day of the week will you be disembarking. I was able to walk of the ship with my luggage and another couple. We requested an Uber as we were walking off the ship, he drove up as we hit the street. Made it to SFO by 8:30 BUT it was a Sunday. Probably the only day of the week you can do that.

  5. I feel so bad for everyone that was scheduled to be on the Sun Princess Inaugural Cruise in February. I know if it were me I'd be devastated.

The DW and I are booked on the first 2 cruises on the STAR PRINCESS in Aug of 25. This now has me a little concerned, did we do the right thing? What are the chances that the inaugural cruise might be canceled?  I would think that whatever issues that are having with the Sun would be fixed before the Star gets that far.

  6. The DW and I are taking a 19 day cruise starting and ending in Rome with time in country on both ends of the cruise. Will be in Italy, Spain, Greece and a couple of other country's.

We are trying to figure out what is our best course of action for cell phones. Need calls, text and Data.  I know that Verizon has an International plan but it is currently $100 for a month PER LINE. That would run us $200 for one month for marginal service.

I am thinking of getting and eSimm for our phones. Has anybody else done that and who did you go with?

    Thanks you

  7. Anybody wants some motivation maybe I can help...I've been on WW exactly 4 months today...I am down 63.6 pounds...I have been very religious about my points and eating correctly....Went into Men's Warehouse yesterday with the "off the rack" Tux I bought 2 years ago for formal nights (yes my wife and I LOVE formal nights) I tried on the coat for them and the said :nope nothing can be done, it s too darn big....So I was measured yesterday and I am having a custom made Tux made for me... It is the first time in my 56 years that I am having anything tailor made for me....Oh year I still plan on losing another 23 pounds before our cruise in 4 months, should not be too big of a problem...WEIGHT WATCHERS works!!!

  8. Well if you have a virgin to sacrifice to Pele then maybe, just maybe thing might improve....but seriously you are talking 4 months from now.... there is NO way of telling what will be happening then...chill and have a nice drink...

  9. As a former engineer (student) that ran the trains that you are talking about I would take 711 to Emeryville and than take the Bus to SF. The time that my wife and I took a Capitol from Sac over 1/2 the bus was going to pier 35 (27 was still being built) so the stopped at the pier for us, they were very accommodating. The San Joaquins do ten to run pretty close to schedule and if you take 711 you are scheduled to get to Emeryville a few minutes past 10 so you have plenty of time for the bus....I would not hesitate to take the train...

  10. Just a thought' date=' but is it possible to pack your carry on and personal item "heavy" and the two of you share one real suitcase? Even if that means doing a load of laundry at one of the hotels, it will be a lot cheaper and more efficient than the additional suitcase.

I just did a one week cruise with my carry on bag and a small back pack--that included clothing for formal night (obviously not a ball gown). My goal was to not have more family luggage than I could handle by myself. I've never had my carry on bag as heavy as it was for this trip, but it was really nice to not have more "stuff."

You can send it home UPS, but it costs and you need to get to the UPS store.[/quote']

Lets put it this way, not an option...the best case scenario would be that we have 3 checked bags plus carry on....

  11. The DW and I are taking BTB cruises (kinda sorta). The first cruise is a 6 day Pacific Coastal from LA to Vancouver on the Crown. Then take a cab (automobile) to the Amtrak station (train) for a ride to Seattle for our Plane ride back to LA to take a 3 day Pacific Coastal to Vancouver (all sea days). There are 2 days between cruises so we will be spending a night in both Vancouver and Seattle.

What we would like to do is send home one suitcase after the first cruise. Anyone have a suggestion on how we can do that? If we have to take it with us it will be 2 flights so it would run us $70 for that one piece of luggage.

  12. The DW and I are booked on the Grand Princess for a California Coastal on Oct 10th. We are currently on the the Starboard side of the ship (odd numbered cabins) but after some thinking about it we are thinking that maybe we should be on the Port side of the ship.

Can anybody that has been on a California Coastal give us some advice as to which side of the ship is better for this cruise?

  13. We won the Newlywed Game in the main Princess Theatre, and we got a bottle of champagne. Although...technically I think we won two bottles--my wife downed an entire bottle while we were up front!

Only 2 bottles? Hell when we got roped into playing the game, I personally went though a bottle and a half all by myself....I don't know how much DW had, and neither does she! and I really really don't like or drink Champagne. But if we are going to make fools of ourselves, and Princess is supplying, we sucked down all we could while we were onstage. On a side note, it was formal night so after the Newlywed game we took the BEST formal pictures ever....of course, we could barely walk.

  14. From the bottom of my heart I would like to say thank you! I am an oil field worker therefore I wear FR (Flame Resistant) jeans and shirts to work every day.... It is great for my ob but when the DW and I get on a cruise we really really look forward to getting dressed up. Before our last cruise I even bought my own Tux....We are one of those that believe in that formal night mean FORMAL! More power to you!!!!

  15. You never stated if this your FIRST passport or a renewal...if it is renewal then it is very easy. we took and printed the pictures ourselves (according to the required guidelines on a color printer with photo paper ) using one of the online passport photo editing programs. We then printed the required forms and mailed them all off with our old passports...3 weeks later we had our new passports and our old ones back too....

If it is your first time then it is a little harder as you have to use birth certificates and such.

I can't believe that there is not a post office a few 2-4 hours from you that cannot process your application sooner.
