  1. I am going on a CA coastal cruise with my SIL, she was surprised that we were going to Ensenada. I told her because of the Jones Act we had to go to a foreign port. She said that was not true because Disney does a 2 day cruise of New York and never goes to a foreign country. I said it probably went to Nassau, she said no it just sailed around the harbor for two days. She has been on two cruises I have been on over 40, and I might be wrong, so I thought I would check here to see where the NY cruises went and how long they are.

She thought because it was Disney they didnt have to follow the Jones Act. Not sure where she got that idea.

Everytime I mention anything about our cruise, she says Well Disney doesnt do it that way.... its going to be a long 7 days

    just shoot me now!!!!

  2. When we flew out of Sj in Jan, we had a early afternoon flight 2PM. When we got to the airport at around 9:00am, we went to the US Airways check-in, were immediately instructed to go thru agriculture inspection with our bags, took all of 5 mins to walk them thru. Then went back to check in and waited about 5 mins for a computer, where we printed out luggage tags, then took bags to the drop off, took about 15 mins total. However the guy that was directing people was also checking flight times, and if your flight was 3 pm or later you were told to come back in three hours. So that might be why she had to wait so long. We hung around the baggage area for about 45 mins with friends, and never saw any delays at the check-in.

The longest line we saw was for security, around noon, it was quite long.

  3. We sailed with our ipad for the first time a few weeks ago on the Adventure. We used it occasionally on the promenade, using our 90 mins free form C&A coupons. But we found that in every port there was someplace that advertised free wi-fi. We would sit down and order a $2-3 beer and get the password. Voila unlimited HIGH SPEED wif-fi. I could send pics to facebook, and email just as fast as at home. on the ship it would take forever.

I found that being on the computer in ports was sufficient enough that I never really needed to log on on the ship. Did it anyway just because of the free 90 mins.

Also to log off we just turned the wi-fi off.

  4. Something I have also noticed that leads to not enough seating in the WJ.

People dont want to share a table.

We have asked at 8 and 10 tops if two seats were taken, when told yes we move on, but then have noticed that no one ever sat there while we were eating.

So two or three people sit at tables for more but dont want to share. They are really missing out, because we have met some of the nicest people and learned so much by sharing our table.

Its not a life sentence and they dont handcuff you to these strangers, you just have to share a meal together.

There have also been times when we have sat with others and after saying HI, they have not said another word to us. But we all sat and ate without wandering around with trays in hand.

And as to the wandering with tray in hand: we always find the table first and take turns going for food, that way we dont take our food for a walk before eating.

  5. We won a 7 day back in 03, used our TA to book the cruise, had to pay taxes, and airfare. We were worried that it would be an inside cabin lower decks, but it was a balcony on deck 9. Well worth the price of bingo, and instead of looking at the extra charges as more money, we looked at the cruise as money not spent, as we would have gone anyway.

We have also won bingo jackpot twice once for $2000.00 and once for almost $5000.00. You do not claim or pay taxes on anything won aboard.

  6. I hate it when there is a dead starfish in my shower.

When people ask me if this is my first cruise, and dont believe me when I tell them I dont know how many cruises Ive been on. Its somewhere between 35-40ish, but I really dont remember, and I dont think it matters if a person has been on one or 100. Some people thinks it gives them superiority to have been on more cruises than anyone else. I would rather sit and chat with a first timer than a diamond + anytime.

  7. RCCL-Nordic Prince

    RCCL-Sun Viking

    RCCL-Song of Norway

    RCCL-Song of America

    RCCL-Serenade of the Seas

    RCCL-Viking Serenade

Sitmar-Fair- something thru the Panama Canal

    Carnival-dont remeber booze cruise

When we went on the Song of America she was the biggest and best, my Brother and I made a pact that we would go on every ship RCCL ever puts out. We didnt realize that RCCL could build them faster than we could afford them. I now cruise with DH and maybe some day we can say we have been on every ship in the fleet, but as long as we keep cruisin it doesnt matter.

Not that I necessarily look forward to it, but it's something I call the the cruise ship smell. When you first walk onboard there is a distinct smell that cruise ships seem to have in varying degrees. It's not bad, just unique to cruise ships. It's like a signal that I am now officially on a cruise.

My DH and I love that smell, we call it the cruise ship smell too. When we are getting excited about an upcoming cruise I will look at him and just say "Can you smell it?", and he knows exactly what I am talking about.

  9. DH and I usually take 7 day cruises. We have two rolling suit bags that have lots of zipper pockets. Those two hold all of our clothes and we cross pack also so if one goes missing we each still have the basics.

We also take a rolling duffel 28" or 32" im not sure. Its the type that has a lower half and an upper half. This holds most of our toiletries and misc extras. And somewhere we pack a folded duffel for stuff we picked up along the way.

If we are flying we check it all, never had them weigh over 50 and so far have never had to pay a bag fee.

We also give all three to the porters at the ship. The only thing we carry on is laptop and my backpack. That way we can explore without being burdened by heavy bags while we are waiting until 1:00.

I have almost always brought home something I never wore, but to make up for it there is usually one item I wore several times, like a favorite pair of shorts or shirt.
