  1. I am confused about whether I need a VPN or a SIM card or both on my upcoming trip to China, Japan and South Korea. Can anyone shed some light on the subject. I mainly plan on sending pictures and messages “home” from my visits. I could foresee making calls to my cruise ship if I happen to get separated (or lost) from my tour group. Thank you.

  2. It’s on one of the higher floors...maybe overlooking the pool? They give you a map when boarding. It is very nice. Panama Canal was a fascinating cruise for us. We did full transit from Florida to California. (I think our grandfather went from Cali ... toward Florida.) you will love the mechanics of the Canal. Many components of the locks were manufactured in Wheeling.

  3. We have cruised both NCL and Princess and feel they are about the same -- "six of one, half a dozen of the other". We are Platinum on NCL and Princess. Both are mid-range cruise lines. And yes, the same arguments and complaints I'm just happy to be cruising!

  4. That reminds me of the elderly man at our table who tucked his napkin into his collar as if he was a toddler just off a bib. Midway through the meal he whipped it off and blew his nose on the cloth napkin. I guess no one ever taught him to carry a handkerchief or tissues.

The there was the old fool at lunch one day giving a lecture to all of us about Jewish people and business, only he didn't use such a benign term and did not speak favorably of them. One of the couples at the table was a Jewish couple from South Africa and they were mortified that Americans would spout off like this with perfect strangers. When their lunch came they asked the waiter if it could be placed on another table because they didn't care to dine with a bigot. Several of us asked if we could join them and another couple asked for a table to themselves. The old guy was left at the table with only his wife for company. She was clearly mortified by the jerk and as she left she apologized profusely for her boorish husband.

It is rather rude and disgusting when someone blows their nose at the table!! I can't tell you how often I've heard that!

You are welcome. I traveled with my mom for many years. In the end, cruising was our best option for the same reasons you stated.

With the medical luggage, just make sure that you only have medical supplies in the bag or they can ask you move the items or pay. I once wrapped the foot plates of my mom's wheetchair in a dress-- and I had to unwrap the foot plates and repack the dress in our luggage. (of course, the person who asked me to do this was repremanded by a supervisor who reminded her, "if someone says it is medical luggage THEN it is medical luggage. Period. We do not search!". Yikes.

I agree, every airport is different. We flew out of Charlotte and it could be dicey on some trips and amazing on others.

On our final trip, our luggage cart looked like the traveling Clampets with 3 pieces of luggage, 1 carry on, 2 bags, 2 walkers, a traveling wheelchair...

Not to self-promote, if you look down in my signature line, I have my live-froms that I wrote from our adventures. Much of the blog is dedicated to making travel as accessable as possible. Just thought I would mention it if you are interested.

  5. I know there's been lots of discussion about food on NCL. I'm going to be sailing on the Getaway in early 2016 and would like to hear experiences with food specific to the Getaway in the last few months. What did you have that you loved and in what venue and was there an upcharge? Thanks for sharing your experiences! We have the UBP so we are going to need to consume a little food between all of the drinks we have on our list to try! ;)

We love to dine at Cagney's. (There is a charge...$35, I think but I'm not sure). Order a DOUBLE shrimp cocktail. The mac and cheese is a great side dish..I like the little (5oz) steak. Breakfast at the dining room is always good, and maybe I'm easy to please, but the buffet was great. I love their pretzel rolls...yum. the Calamari and lobster rolls are excellent at Ocean Blue ( again, an additional fee)...its on the Waterfront. At the Italian restaurant, I always order the pasta al olio with hot pepper flakes for a hearty pasta fix! Lots of good food to be had.

  6. I cruise both lines and find them more alike then different. The decor on NCL is rather gaudy but that doesn't stop me from enjoying my cruise. There freestyle dining works better then Princess because they have to fixed seating so all restaurants are "anytime". I think you would find either line satisfactory. NCL has much better suite amenities so that influences me toward NCL when I book a suite.

I, too, enjoy both lines and find them more alike than different. [emoji316]

  7. Bath is not that near any cruise port and is probably most visited before or after a cruise. This is the major single attraction and you'll want at least an hour in there. In October 2015 it cost £14 for an adult. All the best, Tony

Thank you for this wonderful tour of Bath!

  8. We move back and forth from NCL to Princess based on price and itineraries. We like them both and they are good mid priced cruise experiences. Our very next cruise is on NCL to Bermuda and we will sail on Princess in the spring. The food is comparable as is entertainment. We don't do pools or hot tubs. Its six of one and half dozen of the othet!

  9. Looking at the new dishes, it might get me to go to Sabatini's again. Went last March and several of my dishes were really bad. The lobster was downright awful: tough, rubbery and tasteless.

I agree - my lobster was awful at Sabatini! And I'm not picky!
