  1. I did my best. I spoke with some of the crew when I could get their attention. I didn't double check the pasta. When I asked, I was told no meat or cheese in the pasta sauce (marina and pomodoro). I didn't think to ask about broth, though. I had steamed veggies the first night, didn't notice butter, but didn't ask. I am used to eating plain baked potatoes and undressed salads at a restaurant at home so that ended up being a couple of meals.

I am sorry to hear the English muffins and hash browns may not have been vegan. The lido was super busy in the mornings.

My husband was concerned that I wasn't getting enough to eat, I did lose 3 pounds in 5 days, but I wasn't hungry. I brought nuts and cookies along and of course ate tons of fruit.

  2. Just off our cruise on the Brilliance. We had a great time.

I ate in the lido for all but two meals, other than the vegan cafe in KW where we had lunch.

I did my best without asking the crew if things were vegan. Most mornings I had hash browns, fruit, English muffins with peanut butter, or oatmeal. Or, some combo of those items. The fruit was very good! I had a soy latte each morning from cafe lattitudes.

For lunch and dinner, I had fries and a hummus and vegetable sandwich, and more fruit. I could taste butter in the Indian entrees and rice, so I avoided that. There was usually a pasta and sauce offered (I had pasta and sauce 3 times). Most times there were steamed vegetables and baked potatoes. One night, they had the wok going and I had a wonderful vegetable stir fry.

The first sea day we had the tutti salad in the MDR.

The last two evenings, we ate in the MDR because my husband wanted to try the fish entrees. On those evenings I had spaghetti pomodoro one night and the sweet and sour soy chicken the last evening, both were pretty good but I skipped the rice because I could taste butter. There were no desserts for vegans that I saw, and the only starter was eggplant and kalamata tartare...God awful. Looked like a can of chunky cat food turned over on a pita stick.

I didn't go hungry. The food I had was good. I wish there were more options, maybe someday.

  3. We did stop in and eat at The Cafe. I had the flax and almond french toast and my DH had a blackened mahi mahi sandwich. The food was tasty and the Key Lime Cheesecake was great. I may have accidentally deleted my food photo, but believe you can find both online.

  4. We are just off the Brilliance and didn't plan anything for our 11:30 to 5:00 stop in KW. I wish we had. We did not do well following the map we had, the streets we not well marked. If I had it to do over, I would try the hop on/off thing. The only reason we didn't was because I was afraid I might get motion sickness. We enjoyed walking around but feel like we missed out seeing some of the points of interest.

  5. There are a bunch of photos of their food on yelp. Theirs is a raw key lime pie, and per their website, the only vegan KLP in KW. I am super excited. Thanks to all of you. I will definitely let you know how we liked it, photos too.

  6. Thank you for your thoughtful response. I was hoping there might be someone who had recently had a good vegan meal/key lime pie in Key West. We will be there from 11:30 -5:00, so there is much to see and do in a short time. :)

  7. I am finally going to visit Key West! Very excited! I am wondering if there is a vegan key lime pie offered anywhere? Also, any recommendations for a place for lunch that has vegan options? It doesn't have to be the same place, but it would be nice. We will be there on a Sunday in November.

    Thanks in advance!:)

  8. You need to ask for the head chef the first time you go to the buffet, who will show you which items are vegan. Do not assume! Each ship- even within the same cruiseline- is different. I have run into situations where NONE of the bread or pasta was vegan, and the rice and cooked vegetables all had butter. Even the offerings in the raw salad bar are dependent on the ship, with some having such a big variety that you can easily put together a very good meal each visit, while on other ships you will find no beans and a very limited selection of vegetables. In that case, you can ask them to provide you with a vegan dish (usually it will be offered at that point).

For an idea of what can go wrong (and how insensitive people can be about it), read the link I posted previously, about my experiences on Rhaphsody last year: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2276902. In brief: I was hungry for NINE days.

I've read the entire thread. Very helpful, yet disappointing. We are only taking a 5-day cruise, so we will bring some prepackaged foods to supplement what is available. If nothing else, I wish cruise lines would label vegan entrees, so that we may cobble together a meal without causing a fuss.

  9. To whoever asked about veggie burgers: there are veggie burgers but I'm unsure if they are vegan or not. You can get them in Johnny Rockets (the Soy Bocca burger) or in the windjammer but you might have to ask for them the day or night before - my head waiter on Jewel organised veggie burgers for me for lunch in the windjammer the next day - just needed to find a supervisor to tell them so if this is something you're interested in ask your head waiter. You can also ask for a supervisor or manager in the windjammer to take you through everything that is vegan and I suggest you do this as it is hard to know what is in everything otherwise.

    Thank you!

  10. I am interested in this also, posting to see if there are more responses. Are there veggie burgers? Non dairy milk? Am I allowed to bring a few granola and protein bars on board? It's not my first cruise, but it will be my first with RCCL and I was vegetarian on previous cruises. Any stir frys or pasta offerings that are vegan? Thanks in advance.
