Try calling.  But why do you think it will not cost anything?

It worked. I called and they put me in the A1 for no additional cost. It's a captain's club perk to move up to the next level within your same category for free.

  2. We hated Blu on Apex. There is NO view and it's very loud. We spent most of our 9-night cruise trying all the other free dining options. The maitre'd gave us a very hard sell on how great Blu is and turned himself inside out trying to please us on the one night we came back for dinner. They really take it personally when you don't dine in Blu if you're AC.

I took a few minutes to look at other (non-holiday sailings) on the Edge, since that was discussed before. I was actually surprised (yes, really this time) to see suite availability for the same date as our Mardi Gras sailing (8/7). It was MUCH more reasonable than the New Year's cruise - comparatively affordable. At this point it would be REALLY VERY HANDY to hear from Carnival regarding the Mardi Gras!!

Suites on the Edge include premium drinks, WiFi, tips, and shore excursion/onboard credit

Suites on Mardi Gras include... well, not much.

Having said that, I'd still rather REALLY sail on the Mardi Gras --- come on Carnival!!

I am booked on Edge 7/03. I booked a solo infinity verandah for $2,100 including beverage package, wifi and gratuities. Carnival can't come close to that price for a veranda. I would absolutely book the sky suite over a suite on Mardi Gras. The suites on X come with butler service and all the other goodies for $6k...

There is no vaccine for malaria. There are preventative medications you can take (as in here are 30 days of a pill and during the 30 days you take it you are less likely to contract malaria than if you didn't). But you aren't required to take any preventative medications to travel to a country with malaria. In fact, there are very very few times you are REQUIRED to get a vaccine to travel. The only one I am aware of is yellow fever. People who get the yellow fever vaccine get a paper record that they received it, and no way to verify. So similar to covid in that regard.

I don't believe the cruise lines will have the resources to verify covid vaccinations. So they will never know if your record is legit or fraudulent.

Unless something goes horribly wrong, like Diamond Princess, and then the world would know who faked their cards to get on board.

It hasn't happened yet, but if a Carnival CD ever developed laryngitis, he/she would be my favorite!

Carnival CDs are generally the longest winded and most frequent amongst all the lines I've sailed on, even those that spoke multiple languages.

I didn't get to appreciate the silence until I began to expand my sailing horizons and sailed other brands.

Celebrity has ONE announcement a day from the cruise director. The silence is priceless.

My take on the Florida situation was that Celebrity is expecting an interpretation of the DeSantis order that will exclude cruise ships from that order.

Pushing the "you are in another country the minute you step on board so the Florida rules don't apply." is an interesting strategy. The tennis game gets more interesting as we reach the finale.

  7. My 7/03 Edge cruise is still scheduled; HOWEVER, I am booked in a solo infinite veranda and there are NO MORE available until September. I wonder why they are removing solo cabins from inventory? I also wonder if that means they will move the people that are booked in the solo verandas.

Not stuffy, but beware of your cabin location.  We love cove balconies and book them whenever the ship has them.  On the Magic we booked stateroom 2309 which had a vent blowing hot, smelly air on the balcony making it unusable.  It smelled like an incinerator.  You could not even open the balcony door as the pungent odor would permeate the cabin.  Also beware of cabins under the galley if noise might be an issue for you.

Same. The smell of sewage was awful the entire week and my balcony was completely wasted. Who can sit and breathe that? Yuck. Buyer beware on these.

oasis was in the running for this summer for me because i could have gotten a crown loft suite for the same price as a balcony on summit. but 3 more days including bermuda just won out.  curious how you found the food there because my research showed  tons more choices, as should be on a large ship. i worried wouldnt be enough choices on summit. on ncl i typically did the specialties and ive heard so many mixed reviews on tuscan here im a tad worried.

im fully aware of the tight 2 tops on summit but hoping to get in the mdr and pick a more private on on sailaway

I am not a good judge because I don’t care for the food on Royal ships. I love the ships, service and itinerary but I find the restaurants lacking. Oddly enough, husband and I enjoy windjammer over the MDR.

  10. Following along. I booked Summit as a bridge from Oasis. We are trying to find something a little less “extra.” We just want good food & entertainment without slides, carousels and wave riders. Hoping that the Summit is good for the 30-50 crowd.

My wife and I will be on a cruise soon with stops in St. Maarten and Puerto Rico. We are not going on any excursions at either port and just plan on walking about. My wife is concerned about finding a public restroom either in general or in a restaurant. We need advice and information on where there are restrooms near the Boardwalk and Front Street in Philipsburg (which is where we will be mostly) and also in Old San Juan. I expect most restaurants in Old San Juan would have public restrooms and I would make some sort of purchase (drinks and an appetizer most likely) prior to using it. Am I correct to assume that most restaurants around the Boardwalk and Front St. in Philipsburg have restrooms available for customers? Are there some that require a fee (coin operated)?

Also are there public restrooms in both locations that are not in a business?

They have some inside the fort if you are going to be touring that in OSJ.

  12. I took a chance last week and booked a guaranteed balcony on a last minute cruise next month on the Vision. We received our cabin assignment - deck 7, mid-ship, not connecting. It looks like we are under the shops. I think it's a 1B. So I am super happy with that!

I have booked a guarantee on Carnival's Magic and received a cove balcony that smelled so strongly of sewage that I couldn't sit outside. To me, that's the worst that could happen.

But to the point of today's sailing.  Perhaps it is time for a cruise line to offer us tranquil passage with no golf, no race cars, no tennis, no water slides, no wall climbing, no zip lines and no electronics?  As two who do not have cell phones nor ever will, we would be aboard.  Anyone else?

Sorry. Rowboats don't appeal to me.
